Am I calculating this incorrectly? If I purchase a 6+ 128 GB from Apple it costs roughly 1149 with Applecare. If I sell it after a year netting $450 ($50 from Applecare) my net cost for the year is $700. The iPhone upgrade program would cost for the same period 44.91*12 which is 538.92. So over a period of 10 years the outright purchase price is $6990, whereas the upgrade program is $5389 - I save over $1600.
I realize that my sell price figure is a bit low but:
1) Selling on eBay - I just don't want the hassle. Even of shipping it somewhere else. Just walking into the Apple store and picking up the phone seems very attractive.
2) ebay and paypal fees are high
3) I will get a Sprint/Verzion phone as I use it overseas and it has CDMA. But AT&T is now rolling out LTE band 30 so the AT&T/T-Mobile phone may be a bit better for most folks in the U.S. as it will have the greatest bandwidth capacity.
Am I missing anything?
Accidental damage coverage..... AppleCare is irrelevant IMO since you would never be out of the one-year warranty period.
Accidental damage coverage.![]()
While I appreciate you opinion it is still subjective. I would bet that accident replacement exceeds warranty replacement by a wide margin by Apple Care users. People are always dropping their iPhone in the toilet or on pavement. Cracked screens and water damage happen all the time. Another way to look at it is if you trade in 12 months you will have only paid $65 for Apple Care. That's great and all, but AppleCare+ is $129 mainly because it extends warranty for a year.....

So how do we preorder under the apple financing program? On the Apple App it only has the option for AT&T Next for me.
Why are there two quotes for the 6sPlus 128? One is for $44.91/mo and the other is for $47.45/mo. One price is from the upgrade program page and the other is from the models and pricing page.
I think I am the only one that is doing Barclay financing through their card. I buy the phone. Pay the minimum. Sell the phone in a year. Pay the balance off with amount I get next year. Cheaper minimum payments. No interest financing. I know the other way includes AppleCare. But I would rather skip AppleCare and get just the phone.

I think the main draw of Apple's program is that it lets you upgrade at a reasonable cost without having to deal with selling your phone.
In my mind it's only a matter of time before somebody on eBay scams me out of an iPhone. It's as easy as claiming the seller shipped you a paperweight.
Fair enough. This will probably be the last time I buy a phone at full price, and sell the phone next year and get a new one. As others have mentioned. The more ppl begin to fall for the finance options. The less they will want to buy a used phone. Especially if everyone (meaning all carriers) begin doing the yearly upgrade programs as well as Apple.
Because you have the option of *not* paying off your NEXT installment plan. For those who don't pay off the NEXT plan, then your monthly AT&T bill remains the same and then you have an additional bill from Apple/Citizen One for the new iPhone. Of course, you also have *two* iPhones. The one you got via NEXT and the one you got via the iPhone Upgrade Program. Why would you have higher monthly costs on ATT? If my current 6+ gets completely paid off in full (currently on NEXT), I can keep it and my costs go down as I wouldn't have a phone payment. My monthly cost for data and service should not change.
Heres my math, including selling my phone currently (purchased outright 64gb iphone 6) over the next 4 years either with iphone upgrade, or buying full retail (plus AC+ because accidents) and selling. Looks like it would take over 5 years to break even (minus time and effort to sell them).
My question is: Can you buy the iphone upgrade plan outright? I assume no, because to the consumer there is little upside compared to a monthly fee and more difficulty to apple when you turn it in.. although they could just sell the 2nd phone at 1/2 price.
You could pay it off in 2 months, 12 months, 22 months or anytime. Just pay the balance due and it is your iPhone.I was told that after 6 months on the iPhone upgrade program, one could pay it off and have the phone outright.

I looked at the Barclay card, but I thought that, like other credit cards, the 0 interest deal was only for the first time you buy something not every time you buy an Apple product. Is that not the case?I think I am the only one that is doing Barclay financing through their card. I buy the phone. Pay the minimum. Sell the phone in a year. This is one of the things I was wondering about. If there will be an "upgrade program" option at checkout, since check my eligibility with sprint just says that I am getting offered a 2 year contract price. I intend on signing up for the upgrade program with apple and adding that new phone to my sprint plan then just paying off my leased iPhone 6 once I have my new phone on the plan then selling it to recoup that money. I just wasn't sure if I would be able to pre-order and select the upgrade program option.Just talked to an Apple Store representative (online), he said that Annual Upgrade Program customers will be able to preorder devices just like everyone else (there will be an option on checkout).
