The ATT rep I spoke with today said I couldn't bring my own device because I was still under contract? So basically if I bought the device from Apple, I couldn't use it with ATT without some type of penalty.

I asked about this specifically and was told that you will bring your existing iPhone to the Apple Store to exchange when picking up your new 6s. Your new phone will then have to be ported and you will pay the same establishment fee that you would normally pay to the provider when getting a new phone.

I have Verizon and I expect to pay only a roughly $30 fee for the establishment.

ATT may handle this situation differently but the reps I spoke with both stated this was how it would be regardless.

Obviously the phone companies will be losing profits with this program so I wouldn't be surprised to get hit with some sort of "penalty" but I hope not.

So it sounds like I can only make an appointment to have my credit ran but it doesn't guarantee that ill get phone at launch. Does that mean ill have to line up to get one the day of release? I was hoping all this could be done online :(

thoughts?

Sounds to me like it reserves you a phone at Apple store on whatever day it tells you, but does make me nervous.

Didn't they say they would begin accepting reservations once pre-orders began?
that's what I thought too but apparently she didn't know about that. At this point I want to risk it and just go for the program (not knowing if i'll get approved, not knowing if phones will be available on launch for it, and not knowing if I don't get approved if I'll be able tog et a contract phone.)

Assuming you already have existing service with AT&T and a Nano SIM, just take out the SIM from existing phone, move it to the 6S(+) and you're good to go. AT&T doesn't have anything to do with the iPhone Upgrade Program financing so your new phone will likely be treated just like any another BYOD phone. No activation fees or anything. Of course, now you'll have higher monthly costs for your phone - 1 for AT&T (which could possibly include device subsidy or Next installment if you bought a phone within the last 2 years) and 1 for Apple/Citizen One for the new iPhone.

Why would you have higher monthly costs on ATT? If my current 6+ gets completely paid off in full (currently on NEXT), I can keep it and my costs go down as I wouldn't have a phone payment. My monthly cost for data and service should not change.

ugh, I just talked to my local apple store and they didn't have any information on anything. I asked if I would have to line up on launch day or will the reservations be throughout the day... they didn't know anything. At this point I'm leaning towards just doing the 2 year contract. This is so frustrating.

did anyone reserve a phone last year that picked up in store. Maybe you can shed some light on if you reserved yours for launch day, did everyone get one on launch date that ended up with a reservation?

If so, then I feel like we'll all be safe in the reservation process. If your credit doesn't pass then you probably still have two options: Continue with a new 2 year contract, or monthly interest free payment with ATT Next or Verizon Edge, or pay for the Full Price...

I am only worried about this "reservation" thing...I am used to having my phone shipped to me and sitting at home waiting for it on launch day...stressless..

Yeah, that's one of my concerns. Like will there be a separate line for reservations or is it first come first serve?

I'm AT&T and not Verizon, so YMMV, but I bought my iPhone 6 outright (Not through the NEXT plan) last year, so I have a year left on my two year contract. I stopped into the AT&T store yesterday and asked if there were any restrictions to me buying a new 6s Plus on the new Apple payment plan and switching it with my current phone. He told me no, the only obligation I have is that I finish the contracted time on my plan (because my phone was subsidized based on that two year contract), but I'm free to bring my own new device to the party whenever I wish. The only thing I'm not entitled to at this point is a subsidized price on a new phone.

Thanks. This is my situation as well. Good to know!!! Helped me make my decision.

I bought my iPhone 6 last year online and did the pick up option on launch day. There was a separate line for people who did this option and another line for people who were just hoping to get one if they have stock. My phone was held for me with my name on it at the store. I could of chose to pick it up when they opened or before they closed. I chose to pick it up when they opened that day and was in and out in about 30 minutes with waiting time in line.

I'm thinking if you make the reservation for the upgrade program, your store will hold the phone you want with your name on it and if you get approved, you get it. The store should be allocated phones and whoever reserved it first will get the earliest date like if I wanted a iPhone 6s+ 128gb and I was the last one to get that configuration, my date would be September 25th. You want the same configuration but the store won't get that inventory until the 26th so your reservation date will be on September 26th.

This is just my guess as I have not talked to anyone at Apple about this program.

I just got off of chat with the an Apple rep and she did say that there was going to be an option on the website to reserve the phone to pick up at the Apple Store if you wanted to do the iPhone Upgrade Program. I'm just gonna go ahead and join the crowd on the 12 at 12:01 am PST and make my reservation. When I did the reservation way back for the 4S, they made a separate line for people who had reservations, and people who were hoping to pick up a spare. I'm hoping people won't quite be lining up for the 128 Gb 6S+ if this isn't the case. Regardless, it seems like many people referencing their experiences are of the opinion that they will hold one for you on launch day until you come to get it.

I'm terrified of getting my hopes up, reserving a phone (because tmobile's site sucks), showing up at the store on launch day- and getting denied. I just.. agh.

My question is will the apple store app work for the apple payment plan? or is that just for carriers

In store only for Apple Payment Program, maybe you'll be able to make a reservation in the app right during pre order launch?

That's what i'd like to know , according to a couple of post above me the person said the agent told him that YOU CAN reserve the phone after the application process is complete (assuming you qualify) Just not sure if the application can be done faster on the phone or on computer. I guess ill try both

I have read that there's no activation fee on the non-contracted plans.

Just take your SIM out of your old phone and put it in the 6S. Should work instantly with no issues.
