This thread is 17 pages long and I'm sure this was answered, but, are the phones multi-carrier band (CDMA Verizon, CDMA Sprint, GSM) so you can truly jump around from carrier to carrier at will?

They give you an unlocked phone so yes. You can jump between carriers. Wanna try T-mobile? Try it out. Don't like them, Go some where else. I love this idea! I can bounce around carriers if they piss me off.

According to the thread linked, that may not be the case as AT&T will be using a different model phone.

I looked at the Barclay card, but I thought that, like other credit cards, the 0 interest deal was only for the first time you buy something not every time you buy an Apple product. Is that not the case?

I would appreciate an answer to this as well.

Maybe I'm doing the math wrong, but it seems that Apple's plan will be more expensive even if you factor in Applecare+

I have verizon edge plan where you pay for the phones each month.. but verizon gives you a discount for each line if you do that, $25 each for us. And we’re paying about $33 for each phone, so it comes out to like $7 for the phone if you factor in the credit. If we switch to the apple plan we will lose the $25 per line credit. Pretty sure ATT Next also has a discount. I don't think Tmobile does, and not sure about Sprint. So with AT&T and Verizon, you're losing the discount since you're not getting the phone from them. Applecare+ is $99 but I'll be paying an extra $300 per year because I'm losing out on the $25 discount Verizon is giving me. So that's $200 per year per phone extra I'll be paying just so I can upgrade every year?

That's what I'm saying!!!

Unlocked or not, whatever - it clearly says iPhone activation required. Why is an activation required?

Is an 'activation' a 2-yr agreement with one of the carriers? If so does Apple collect the activation fees? Does it waive them for you? Does Apple enforce the carrier agreement ?

What good is an unlocked phone if I have a to sign up for another 2 year agreement of some kind? Lots of unanswered questions and I doubt anyone is saving anything except effort on selling their phones on eBay.

If its not a contract/credit check/liability with the carrier, I guess it's gotta be a contract/credit check/liability with Apple right?

Technically, we already know that the Verizon version *will* work on AT&T. It just won't have LTE band 30 for faster LTE.

The real question is if either the "Unlocked" or AT&T model will be similar to the SIM-free/Sprint model from last year which had a superset of all the LTE bands and radios to work with all 4 major US networks.

As for needing service from the big 4, from what I can surmise, this seems to be a form of guarantee of credit worthiness since they'll just be running a soft inquiry (or may not even run a credit check at all). Apple doesn't require you to commit to a contract. If you have existing postpaid service from the big 4, that's already good enough for them at least as far as I understand from the limited information we've been given.

You don't lose the discount. Verizon's plan now gives you the same discount for EDGE as for BYOD. I believe Verizon extended EDGE discounts to BYOD around October 2014.

Ever since AT&T introduced the Mobile Share Value plans, it has never made a distinction between NEXT and BYOD for the discount. As long as you're off-contract, you're eligible for the $15-25 line discount.

So since theres no options on the site while reserving for the upgrade program...How is apple going to collect your money for the phone if you so choose the route.

Or are they just making a reservation for you and then you come in store and pay. Do you only pay on apple's site then when you have it delivered home? I just dont want to show up at midnight and not have the upgrade option and have to pay full price or something =/

Also, you dont have to trade in your 6 for this plan initially right, just your 6s for the 7 if you so choose. For now we just begin with monthly payments and we can sell our 6 privately?

i believe you make the reservation for the appointment online during pre order and then you actually go into the store at the appointment you made to pay for the program/phone

yes, the program starts you with new iPhone. you're free to sell your old iPhone, assuming you own it in the first place (carrier subsidizing, contract, etc...)

It's happened before actually with the 5s I think. A website, probably the same one you're referring to, said there are different model iPhones. Later come to find out you can use the phone with any carrier. Do be mindful of websites that hate Apple and try to bring about false information to propagate their narrative.

According to the thread linked, that may not be the case as AT&T will be using a different model phone.

When I go on the Apple site, it keeps pushing me to buy the phone contract free through att. How would I go about signing up for Apple upgrade program and starting from scratch?

I believe Apple's program won't be launched until tomorrow, so that's why, today, it's telling you to go through ATT.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going with the iPhone Upgrade program. That way, I can spread the cost of AppleCare+ over 24 months and trade it in after 12 months for a new iPhone. With the other methods, AppleCare+ is paid as a separate charge upfront. By spreading it out over 24 payments and upgrading after 12, I only pay for AppleCare+ for the time that I need it, a savings of around $65.

On second, third, fourth, etc thought, I've decided to pay full price for the phone. I'm selling my unlocked GSM iPhone 6 Plus with 128GB for $600.

Do I need to turn in my current iPhone (I have a 6 Plus which I bought at a discount for renewing my ATT contract). Or can I keep my current iPhone, sell it on eBay, and then use that money toward my "lease" with apple?

Thanks!

Yeah, how come the pre-order (Remember me) process doesn't have the option for the iPhone upgrade program?
