Perhaps it will at 12am PDT tonight.

I was talking to the Apple chat guy today, trying to explain that I wanted to start a new account with AT&T when I preorder, and he told me when I do that, I can use the Upgrade Plan to pay for the phone.

Yeah, how come the pre-order (Remember me) process doesn't have the option for the iPhone upgrade program?
Because you can't use their annual upgrade program when you pre-order. It will be in store only. The only thing you will be able to do tonight is make a reservation to buy it in the store and then you can do the upgrade program there. This will not hold a phone for you however.

I really wish the site was updated and the terms and conditions page would load. This is so confusing.

If you are talking about Apple's annual upgrade program, then he's mistaken. It will be in store only.

This thread is 17 pages long and I'm sure this was answered, but, are the phones multi-carrier band (CDMA Verizon, CDMA Sprint, GSM) so you can truly jump around from carrier to carrier at will?

I think others have answered this, but I will add my 2 cents.

First ... there are two different models of the phone with slight differences. One model has CDMA support, and the other model has no CDMA support, but supports LTE band 30.

You can see this by looking at the tech specs: http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/

CDMA is required for voice calls on Verizon / Sprint if you are not near an LTE tower (or if you have LTE voice turned off).

Band 30 is only used by AT&T, and I'm not sure how common it is. I think it is relatively new, so for now I doubt it is that important, but that could change (and how important it is will depend on whether or not you leave near a band 30 cell tower).

So ... if you really want to jump between the four carriers, it would make sense to get a CDMA phone (sold by Verizon, Sprint, and I think T-Mobile also). It should work fine on AT&T.

But ... if you are sure you are going to use AT&T or stick to AT&T / T-Mobile, then the AT&T version might be the one to get.

If I have an unlimited data plan through Verizon already, will buying/ordering through the iPhone Upgrade Program cause me to lose this? I can buy the phone out of contract if I need to, but just figured it would be easier to do their plan since I hate the hassle of selling my phone. Also if I can't select a phone option to reserve for release day appointment then I probably won't bother with the upgrade program.

Sorry if i missed the answer to this question in this thread, I skimmed through it quickly.

The Apple Store I went to today said... When making a reservation for the Upgrade program, that is reserving the phone. Pay the sales tax and then the following monthly payments. (You wouldn't pay for a phone that they don't have).

does making an appointment in store to sign up for the upgrade program reserve a phone? I am going to be on a road trip on the 25th and would like to make an appointment where im going to be to buy a phone rather than preorder and get it delivered as I won't be back home till october 3rd.

I don't think so. Buying on the Upgrade Plan is basically going around the carrier, and Verizon doesn't even need to know that you got a new phone. Just move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one, and I don't think anything else needs to change.

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I didn't see anything about it. Any insight on how the process will work for ordering two phones on the Apple Upgrade Program? I'm ordering one for my mom as well. We can both be at the same Apple store to do the in-store processing, so hopefully the reservation process allows for us to make one appointment to handle processing both phones? Or do you think it's more likely that I'll need to do two separate transactions/reservations tonight during the pre-order?

If I set up an appointment to do the apple upgrade program any idea if I can bring my current phone in and trade it in for a gift card then apply that to the new phone thus making my payments less? This would save me the hassle of Craig's list.

I just called Apple store online and was told that it WILL NOT reserve a phone for you. Then I called one of local Apple stores and the guy was clueless. This is all so new that nobody seems to be sure how it's going to be handled. I've been told a few times now that making an appointment to do the Annual Upgrade option will not hold a phone for you. I'm still checking, but I don't think we will know for sure until 12:01AM

Pretty sure it will reserve you a phone, we will see.

Selling it on swappa.com would be a far better idea. You will just be giving the phone away for peanuts if you trade it in. Swappa is super easy and you can get a good price.

CDMA needs to die a slow and painful death.

Not just no, but HELL NO.

I say that, because if it's slow and painful, CDMA will still be around until it's finally dead.

CMDA needs to die a FAST and painful death. Think about it; finally, we in the USA are getting the same type of mobile phone setup that Canada, Europe, Oceania, and Japan have had for nearly 16 years: The network should be tailored to suit the phone, not the phone tailored to suit the network. We shouldn't, if switching carriers, be forced to repurchase the same phone to work on another network, when we could take our existing hardware to that carrier and use it. We've been stuck with that since the late 1990s, and we finally are catching up to the rest of the world.

BL.

Boy... lot of chatter on all this.

Comparing to AT&T Next, the Apple Upgrade plan is a complete wash assuming you add Apple care+. Except for the unlocked phone and paying for Apple Care+ monthly rather than $129 upfront like you would from a carrier I see no up/down side. :-/ I guess I could just flip a coin.

I think making a reservation actually WILL hold a phone for you. Because if you go to your reservation and the phone is not there that won't make sense.... Why would someone make a reservation and go and see the phone won't be there waiting for them? Logic people Logic.
