Yeah it would take some banking work on your side to not have the order cancelled. I freaked out when preording AW because I got first round shipping but accidentally put it on a card with a low balance. Luckily I got my money moved around in time. You are probably correct, if you don't have a credit card with a free balance that you can pre-charge and refund then you are probably SOL.
(though Apple doesn't charge till it ships, which is probably 19-21st? if you can float the money for 5-6 days then it will work, since you will get a full refund on your credit card)
I am very skeptical of this credit card issue. I think a debit card will work. We'll see though I guess.
i called my local Apple Store just now and they confirmed that you can use a debit card and run it as credit. Just as long as it's not a prepaid debit card. For example, a prepaid card you buy at Walmart etcI was also told that it had to be a credit card and not a debit card. Which is strange, considering I can use my debit card as a credit card in many places.
I don't understand why a debit card wouldn't work. Especially since this is supposed to be a 0% line of credit but if you are forced to do a credit card it's not really 0% anymore.Same. I'm hoping a debit works, but we'll have to see. Here's what I read on the site.
Your personal information and credit card.
You will be asked to provide your Social Security number and date of birth for a credit check. You will also need a valid U.S. personal credit card. Debit cards and prepaid cards are not accepted.
I actually want to do the opposite, but I'm assuming that won't be a problem.I chatted with Apple and I was told that even if you did put a reservation through the iPhone upgrade Program, you can still buy it outright and not have to use the iPhone upgrade Program. Which I may very well pay it outright instead. What the reservation system does is it just reserves the phone for you and you can come pick it up, you don't "have" to use the iPhone upgrade program.

NothingI keep reading that the Upgrade program is only good if you upgrade every year. But am I someone that buys a full price unlocked phone with AppleCare+ every two years. My quick math seems to show that I would pay the same amount of money, except spread out over 24 months interest free. What am I missing?
Can you buy the phone without having a carrier?

I'm in a similar situation. I ordered 4, two on my apple account and two on my wife's. I am picking up all 4 of them. My sister wants one of them, but she is not on our Verizon account so she is hoping that they will let her buy one of mine on her own separate upgrade program. I'm just hoping that they let me pick up all 4 phones without my wife there. We have separate Apple accounts, but are both on the same Verizon account. I'm hoping that worst case, since I'm bringing my sister, they will let her buy two and myself buy two. I can add her as an authorized user to our Verizon account if need be.

They must carry balances on their credit cards.
What do you mean?
A Credit card is used for second ID verification only.. You can pay for the phone with any form of payment.
On the terms and conditions page it says it must be a credit card, and all monthly payments will automatically be charged to that credit card going forward.
They are complaining that it won't really be 0% APR. The only reason this would concern someone is if you don't pay off your credit card bill every month and carry a balance. Then yes, you will be paying the agreed upon interest rate on your credit card. If you pay off your balance every month it's still 0%.
But it also says after 6 months you will will eligible for an upgrade if you have made 12 months of payments, how do you pay more per month ?
