Yeah that makes sense. I don't carry my balances so I am good.
I don't carry balances except for one of my credit cards that has a low interest rate. But I just got approved for the Barclay Apple Rewards Visa card with a pretty good limit. Do you guys think it would be better to just use the card and pay in full and use their 24 month interest free offer or use the Upgrade program? I was leaning towards the upgrade program because making such a big purchase would effect my credit cards utilization ratio. But either way I'm using the Barclay card to pay.
Also having just been approved for the Barclay card do you guys think that I have a good chance of being approved for the upgrade program?

How often do you want to upgrade? Every year? You would have to deal with selling the phone yourself if paid full price up front. I know Apple currently has a trade-in program. Not sure what they give for a 12-month old model though.

How do I reserve to buy iPhone 6s in store for a date other than 8/25/15? Say, for example, I want to buy in store on 8/28/15, since on 8/25/15 the store I want to buy from does not have the iPhone 6s model I prefer? Is there a way to reserve on a different date?

So what if I already have a contract with my carrier that still has a year on it? Can I just swap phones? I don't understand why a carrier needs to get involved if it's just swapping sim cards.

Good point, and something to think about. But this year I actually sold my 6+ last month and picked up a Note 5 until the 6s+ comes because I only had a 16gb and it was horrible memory wise, won't do that again. But I have Tmobile Jump which is sort of like the Apple program in that you need to pay off half to jump and return your phone. But what I did was pay off half and was left with a balance of $370 and then put it for sale at $500. It was sold a day after listing it and I made a little profit.

*I got burned setting for a 16gb as well*

Yeah. I'm not saying there isn't anything wrong with selling it yourself. Just was putting it out there. Sounds like you know what your doing. The T-Mobile jump sounds like a good deal as well.

I actually want to do the opposite, but I'm assuming that won't be a problem.

I'm sure you can. I think the reservation system just reserves your phone so you can be guaranteed to walk out. But I'm sure that you will be given an option of how you want to pay.

They won't be screwed. Your credit will be screwed, and they will come after you for the balance.
Believe me I've worked to hard to get it where it is and go to the extreme to protect it, I'm just saying it shouldn't matter how you pay as long as you pay. Because and idiot is always going to be and idiot no matter what system you put in place to make it harder for them to be an idiot.

I guess that's why they're running a credit check to weed out any risk on their part.

The carriers still want to charge you an "activation fee"
Yes, but the question is why Apple is enabling it. This program has bizarre nonsensical restrictions and conditions. Conditioning non-carrier financing on paying the carrier's vig is but one of them.

So why care if it's a proper credit card? The card I use might not have a large enough credit line to pay the balance, or I might have transferred its credit line to another card. So many ways this reasoning fails.

True, but the question remains why, assuming you pass the credit check, they care whether you're using a proper credit card to pay.

Another thing: this whole "proper credit card" bs almost implies you won't be able to change the card you use to pay the monthly bill.

So....I realized that I set up an appointment for a time that cuts it a bit too short if there are any delays. No way to change it - an Apple representative tried - but as times were still available for an hour earlier, I just made another reservation. I feel bad about it, but I figure even if I don't take the second phone, they're not going to have a problem selling it pretty darn quick that weekend.

I am about DONE with AT&T. I have 5 lines total. I have 2 lines that are eligible for a NEXT upgrade. However these lines are my extra "non smartphone" lines. AT&T is telling me that if I upgrade using those 2 lines and then switch the phones to my primary lines that the NEXT "installment agreement" is still attached to that other line that I am planning to cancel since it's contract is up very soon.

I am trying to get rid of the extra lines and back to just my 2 primary. But them basically saying I can't since the NEXT "contract" is attached to the line since I used it as my upgrade. Thats RIDICULOUS, they are getting the phone paid for either way....who cares what line it's attached to???

WTH.....Damn AT&T
