Apple wants people to buy phones, and there's already a separate 24 month financing option that's through
This sounds more like a soft pull, but this sounds more like nearly everyone will get approved for this, regardless of credit score.

BL.

I think they're just trying to weed out scammers and people who will grab the phone and dash.

I was annoyed that I was charged interest for choosing to pay for my phone and watch in 12 months but was given an offer for interest free in 24 months. I decided to take the Link Bracelet over 24 months.

I don't understand. It's a phone. If you can't afford to pay for it in full, then you are only putting yourself in debt. I'm all game for Apple's program, given that it is interest free if you pay our CC in full each month, but it sounds like some people are reaching desperation for the latest and greatest and digging themselves into a financial pitfall for a phone. Maybe upgrading isn't right if you can't afford it?

I can definitely afford it. Actually I could afford to buy it outright now. But I made some mistakes in college and now have educated myself and become much better with money and have a secure job. However, credit is not repaired overnight. It's taken me nearly two years just to get my credit to the "Poor" rating its currently at. You are making assumption that just aren't true.

I don't understand why some of you are so freaked out about having your credit checked. A single credit check will not significantly affect your credit score. It may go down 5 points or so temporarily. Unless you have had credit checks run several times recently, I wouldn't think it would be worth worrying about.

I'm gardening, so I'm avoiding any pulls for the next year or so. It may not bother you, b
Except someone who does not have a credit card, only VISA Debit Card

You do know that the Visa debit card can be ran as credit because of the Visa logo right? Just wondering.

Some people in this world pay in instalments, some don't. I have no problem with it but my best friend says if you do not have the cash in your hand, it cannot be yours.

Apple says no debit or prepaid cards. This is probably processed like a car rental or a hotel room.

Your personal information and credit card.
You will be asked to provide your Social Security number and date of birth for a credit check. You will also need a valid U.S. personal credit card. Debit cards and prepaid cards are not accepted.

Anyone have an idea of what kind of credit score is needed for the upgrade program?

It is a relatively small amount over 24 months. Payment is guaranteed by credit card. Phone activation is required at point of sale. Most people will be upgrading yearly which allows the lender to re-check you yearly. Because of these facts I don't see it being a very stringent process to qualify since the risk to lender is minimized substantially.

We're not really sure. There's a lot of information flying around. I don't think we will know until the 25th

That's what I was thinking. Some places say as long as you have a credit card you will qualify, but some say that Citizen's One will actually run a credit check to determine eligibility. It's all speculation right now so I guess we will see next Friday. I took off from work and booked the earliest appointment at my nearest store an hour away, and don't want to waste my time getting there just to find out I don't qualify. Wish there were some sort of pre-screen that they did online for that aspect.

I agree that some kind of pre-qualification check would be nice. Given that there isn't one it makes me guess that the credit check will not be all that deep or stringent. I don't think Apple wants disgruntled customers walking away without a phone.

I am so excited about this. I can't wait.

I don't think this is going to be possible, but my wife reserved her phone for 5pm. Do you think I'll be able to pick it up for her when I go get mine which I reserved for 9am? Also, do you think it's possible to sign up for two iPhone Upgrade programs under the same person?

This is on the FAQ's from the confirm email:

Can someone else pick up my reservation?
Items can be picked up only by the wireless account holder and people authorized on that account.

I've paid for plenty of hotel rooms with Visa debit cards. The hotel treats it like a regular credit card. The car rental companies won't accept them because they think they'll be able to charge your card thousands in case of damage to the car. They didn't really think it through, because you could have given them a proper credit card with a tiny limit since they can't get away with hitting every customer's card with a several thousand dollar authorization hold.

That's cool. So maybe I can. But need to know if they'll let me do it earlier than I'm supposed to, and also if I can do two IUP just using me :)

I hope so. I have four reserved-2 under my wife's Apple ID, and 2 under mine. We're both authorized users on our Verizon account, so I'm hoping there won't be a problem with me getting all 4 on the Upgrade Program.

It's not true that rental car companies don't accept debit cards. I do it 3 or 4 times a year.

I've never been able to get one of the majors (Hertz, Avis, etc) to accept them. The only one I've been successful with is rent-a-wreck. I had a prepaid reservation with Hertz once and when I went to pick up my car they wouldn't give it to me because I only had a Visa-debit card, and they wouldn't refund my reservation either. I was out a couple hundred bucks because of those jerks.

Agreed, some rental car companies do allow the use of debit card. Some even may ask for income verification. But as always, rental car company actually prefers credit card.

With Verizon and ATT now charging a $45 activation fee, I want to remind everyone that you are going to see this "upgrade" or "activation" fee on your next months bill. Even with the Apple Upgrade Program! That's why they require activation.

I think its complete horse poo, but i was able to confirm with an Apple chat person that any upgrade / activation fee's still apply.

If you can afford to pay for it outright, and you're on ATT or VZW, save yourself $45!!

Verizon told me last week that even if I buy it outright from Apple, I have to pay the activation fee.

Oh wow. For ATT, it's a little bit easier. I can simply slip a SIM into my outright purchased device and be good to go. The $45 is the biggest rip off i've ever seen!
