Okay, but what about bringing your own device to an existing line, which is what many of us are doing?Anytime a new line is activated it will trigger a $15 fee and a sim on an existing line can't be used on another line.

If it's an unlocked phone they don't need to do anything. Moving a sim to a new phone changes nothing on their side.AT&T still has to do work when you buy a new phone - change the EIN associated with number, change the billing to new phone etc.
If you're renewing a 2 year then yes if your doing the apple upgrade then shouldn't unless we're charging a $15 fee for the sim activation that comes with the iPhone since they are asking for carrier information even for the iPhone upgrade program. What happens when you have a 2 year contract that is out of contract I.E. Unlimited data plan? Am I going to get charged this $45 fee?
If so, I will definitely complain.

Honestly we haven't been told much about the apple upgrade program since it is inherently an apple thing so Att isn't the best source to go to at this moment
It still cost Att money to activate the new sim even if it's done at apple. Think of it as an administrative feeNo, but ATT should be treating the AUP as BYOD. So where does this $15 activation fee come into play when using BYOD to an existing line or lines?
BL.
So if you just swap your existing SIM over to the new phone, then there's nothing for a AT&T to activate, and no fee. Cool.It still cost Att money to activate the new sim even if it's done at apple. Think of it as an administrative fee
That's what it should be, but Apple's persistent use of the word "activate" in a context where it doesn't apply suggests they're going to try and force a new sim and fee on you.So if you just swap your existing SIM over to the new phone, then there's nothing for a AT&T to activate, and no fee. Agree. I sold my iphone 6 plus august 20th. Went to att store to get micro sim so I can use my spare lg g3 for the next month. No bogus $15 charge.
People just getting confused with this $15 charge. Its for next customers.
It may be you who is confused. If you're not, then Apple and AT&T are both giving out bad information.
Sorry to keep repeating myself but I know the thread is long:
When I ordered my AT&T 6S (full price, unsubsidized, direct from Apple, to use on an existing line) I was clearly told there would be a $15 fee, and it's still showing up on my Apple order:

Personally I think that's ********.
I suspect Apple just shows that for all ATT orders. I bet the fee won't actually show up on your bill
If it is like the past, the in store activation is literally just what you do at home. They take out the iPhone and just click next until it activates. The in store activation requirement is what leads me to believe we will be charged some kind of fee. I hope I'm wrong.

Tell them you want to restore the backup at home, and they should let you take it.

I went to the apple store this morning and learn the following:
1. There will be a financed option w/o Apple Care and no upgrade program. Straight financing.
2. You can get it with PrePaid service. (He had to confirm with Manager).
3. Activation at the store is not necessary. In my case, they will direct me to Tmobile to have my Sim cut or assigned a new one for iPhone.
The guy looked like he got high that morning...
I've had several replacement iPhones under AppleCare. I walk into an Apple Store, they transfer my sim to a new iPhone, I walk out. AT&T is not involved.
This shouldn't be treated any differently.
pop old sim to new sim. I've done this before. Bought the 6 plus, they gave me the box and i was out. No activation or nothing just had to put my sim card in.by transfer you mean just pop in your old sim to a new one or transfer to a new sim?

Well, listen to this bull crap I had to deal with. I had both my macbooks set up to order my mothers 6s and my 6s plus and smack at 3:02am I was able to get thru on my Apple App for my 6s plus Apple charged me $75.35 tax! Ordered my mothers phone on AT&T and she paid $0!
So basically, Apple still charges a tax and I am taking the sim I already have to add to the 6s Plus and I still have to pay a $15 fee. Crazy. BUT I am not complaining I still was able to breeze through and get both phones.
ps the truth shall be unveiled on 25th September.
