My wife is the primary account holder on our Sprint account and she had to call them and list me as an authorized user to allow me to make decisions on the account. Don't know how AT&T works but I would suspect it would be the same process.

yeah i just figured it out. So if a person is not an authorized account but he knows the password and SSN of the primary account holder is he good to go??

Depends on how deep the verification goes. With Sprint my name is listed on the account as an authorized user. If Apple has access to that database, they may check if your name appears. If they just simply ask you for account data then you're good to go with just the info.

okay. i will add myself to the authorized users. i just made my account though and linked it to the primary account.

I hope things have changed: I remember Apple not being able to support 'authorized users' and required primary account holders, you'd have to go into AT&T corporate stores if you only added yourself to the online portal as an authorized user.

This was in 2008 for the iPhone 3G launch, I'd call the store to verify.

I have two reservations for pickup friday. One in my wifes name at 10:30 and one in my name for 11am. Both phones will be on the same account and I'm the primary account owner.

She has a meeting at work she cant get out of. Any idea if i can pick her phone up at her appointment and then i pick mine up after or in the same appointment if they let me do both together?

According to the FAQ in the reservation email I got for the Upgrade Program:

Can someone else pick up my reservation?
Items can be picked up only by the wireless account holder and people authorized on that account.

As long as the person is listed as an Authorized User then yes he is good to go. It will show on their P.O.S device they use of the info on that account and thus that is why they ask you for an ID.

That was in the past, but things have changed. I am an authorized user and when I purchased the 6+ through Next last year, my primary account holder did not need to be present.

But it actually depends on what service you are looking for. If you are looking to upgrade an existing line then you don't need a primary account holder to be present. But if you are going to add a new line then a primary account holder is required to do this. When I tried to add a line for my wife, I tried to do this at the AT&T store, I was told that I could not add a line as I was the authorized user, and of course my primary account holder was not in the country. But I was able to add a line without any issues through my AT&T account online.

no i mean currently i am not listed as an authroized user on my brothers account but i know the password and SSN number so i should be good to go right.

Anyone know if they will do a credit check before purchase? I just so happen to have a genius bar appointment for an issue I am having with my mac and was wondering if they can check to see if I'm eligible before the craziness of the 25th.

Don't think they will, because they won't be able to sell them or do anything with the AUP until the 25th. And I hope that your Genius Bar appointment is before the 25th, because they were said to have cancelled them for that entire day, and possibly the weekend.

BL.

No, you need to be listed as an Authorized User, password and his SSN won't just do it. If you add your self as an Authorized User on your Brother's account then you should be fine, since you said you know the PW of the att account and the SSN of your brothers.

Haha. Yeah the appointment is tomorrow.

I signed up for the upgrade program but picked the GSM model when asked.

I want to switch to Verizon now because ATT is just horrible. I can't call people from my office or half of Baltimore city.

Can I switch that phone to Verizon? I think I'll just lose CDMA coverage as a backup, right? Anyone think that's still a big deal with Verizon?

I work for AT&T and I can confirm that we are treating this as a BYOD device. "Bring Your Own Device" If its a new line yes there will be an activation fee of $15 if it's a line you already have then no fee will be charged.

I still need to go to an AT&T store and give them the IMEI number of the new phone so they can provision everything correctly, though, right?

I'm in bmore too and att is horrible here

Why Apple/Att make everything so complicated?

If you had iPhone , just swap SIM card. IMEI updates automatically. If you had Samsung it is better to change data plan later in the system. No need to call Att and give them any info.

May I share a personal anecdote? So, here I am researching galore for the best deal, best price for the phone and the service. I saw my almost 80 year old mom and dad last night, and apparently he and a young man who works for him went to Best Buy (why Best Buy!?!?!) and got 2 iPhones (I'm not sure if it's the 6 or the 6s) and moved to Verizon. Once I stopped swallowing my tongue (smartphones?) and trying to get a good answer from his about the deal (I think they may have too many gigs of data, but don't know yet), I had to laugh at how quickly he made the decision and thought, what the hell. All Mom needs is a phone that makes phone calls, so this is a riot, too. But in a way, I'm proud of him. about 18 months ago, we walked into an Apple Store, because I just wanted him to see what an iMac looked like and he bought one immediately and decided to learn how to use iOS. They'll never be computer gurus, but it's good, right?

And there's me, who spent days and hours trying to find the very best deal ever. He's not so twisted up about that. And he's getting his phones on Friday, as I am!
