Mine has been absolutely terrible, snapchat is very unresponsive, imessage takes 3-5 seconds to load and open. my camera app completely froze my iPhone for 3 minutes after i tried to rotate the orientation of the screen. It has been an absolute mess

That won’t do anything. As others have mentioned the OS is reindexing.
That may be true for some but it can’t be the one answer for all the various issues users are having. The vast majority are not reporting problems, so presumably re-indexing isn’t that big a deal.

It’s a combination of a .0 OS release and no doubt some apps are buggy as well, and they will be updated. If you’re having the same issues on different devices, I would start suspecting an ill behaved app might be responsible.

I'm not experiencing any of the slow launching issues as other have (iPhone 7+), but I have had some freezes on the home screen. Hard reset fixes it; S.O. has had the same on her 7.

I think I'm going to stay permanently on 10.3.3 on my 7. I want to keep this phone for a few more years, and this is the most guaranteed way of making it stay super fast. There are no features I really care about in iOS 11 anyways, except iMessages in iCloud and Apple Pay in iMessage, which aren't even available

I have a 6s, 16GB. I’ve tested iOS 11 since it’s release at WWDC and I’ve had all the log files clog this device up, but I still didn’t have any issues with stuttering and opening apps after the second beta. I did a clean install of the production release and performance is great.

Doing a clean install and setting up as a new device is a pain but it will help you clean out your device, especially if you always do OTA updates. And yes, backups get corrupted. Restore and set up as a new iPhone. Don’t be lazy.
[doublepost=1506379664][/doublepost]Battery life on my iPhone 6 has improved since installing iOS11. Not noticing any slowdowns in apps or overall performance.

Following the release of a new version of iOS, there are typically complaints about battery problems, issues with apps, and minor bugs, and the launch of iOS 11 has proven to be no exception.

On reddit, numerous users who have installed iOS 11 claim to be experiencing much slower app performance, app crashes, and other similar issues. The initial reddit post calls launching apps "an absolute chore," a sentiment echoed by dozens of additional comments.

Users are complaining that their phones "just get stuck on apps" and that a hard reset is the only way to fix the problem. Reddit, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, Safari, and more are all affected apps. Sometimes, apps refuse to open just launching from the Home screen, while at other times, apps launched from Notifications won't work, and there are issues with Bluetooth. The Now Playing widget in the Control Center is also a chief complaint, with multiple users unable to control songs on Spotify and Apple Music using the widget, and some users say their battery life has taken a serious hit since updating.

Not all customers who upgraded to iOS 11 are seeing these issues but based on the reddit thread, it seems a fair number of people are having problems. App updates and subsequent iOS 11 updates are likely to resolve these issues over time, but customers who want an immediate fix can try some of the methods reported to work on reddit

Some reddit users claim that resetting their settings (Settings --> General ---> Reset --> Reset All Settings) fixed all of the app issues, while others have restored their devices and set it up as new to solve the problem. Others have backed up and restored and had better results. From one reddit user on backup and restore:Multiple iPhone models appear to be affected, with redditors reporting issues on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and other earlier models. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus do not appear to be affected, and there are few complaints about iPad Pro models.

Most apps are taking twice as long to load on my 6 Plus. It isn't too bad, but it is quite noticeable when an app that used to launch in just a few seconds is now taking ten or more. It even happens in the phone app when I click on someone's number and there is a three or four second delay before the phone starts dialing.

After Installing iOS 11

wonder if it's only affecting users that were using beta versions? i used the beta software on my iPad Pro and upgraded to GM, experienced issues. but my phone 7+ went from iOS 10 -> final iOS 11 experienced no issues.
i find the same...i was on beta and didn’t have any issues until the GM was issued. now, i have all kinds of crashes and freezing with just about any app i use.

Lmao at the “reindexing” stop making excuses for apples lack of attention to detail.

Both my 6S (64GB) and SE (64GB) were noticeably "snappy" immediately after the upgrade.

Prior to my 6S was lagging on opening apps on iOS 10.

The kids 6th gen iPod Touch's are just as responsive as before upgrading to iOS 11.

Frick, I don't know...

this is what you get when the community treats a poor performing CEO as a cult leader and have no rational debates about the real problems.

What am I missing? Poor performing? What?!?

And honestly I am at a loss calling the most valuable company on the planet
a "cult".

Whilst I’d rather preach about planned obscene, it does seem to be something about Apple’s OTA update system that’s not efficiently updating the OS. Restoring would seemingly fix the hashed update by simply doing it again but better this time.

Maybe an area that requires Apple’s attention.

Ps. Let’s also not forget that battery life is now total garbage, but that was present in the GM too.

No offense but “not efficiently updating the OS” defies how computers work.

People always used to reboot or even reinstall windows any time they had any little issue. It pretty much didn’t fix anything 99% of the time. Same with these maneuvers.

"And for a brief moment . . . my iPhone 8+ running iOS 11 went higher, farther and faster than any other American [phone]."

I haven't installed iOS 11 on my iPhone yet, but I have installed it on my iPad Air 2 and Mini 4. FWIW, the only issue is that launching apps seems slower and minimizing apps is very jerky/laggy.

BTW, on "indexing," we know Mac OS machines do this. Do we actually know that iOS devices do something similar?

6S Plus here. My performance was choppy and crappy on 10.3 already. With 11, it's a mixed bag. Some things are improved, like app-switching and other similar functions are actually quicker, but there is more lagginess with other animations and things and lots of blank screens and weirdness on certain apps. iTunes store was actually shaking today.

Battery life has been awful. I updated last Wednesday, so almost a week here. Still really bad battery life in comparison to 10.3 so far...

A sales tactic that affects their second newest phone that they're still selling? Think about it, man :)

.

Actually the iPhone 7 is not the second newest, it's the third.

The brand new, shiny one is the X, then comes the 8 and after them come the older 7 and 6s.

As opposed to... what? Or compared to what? A previous iOS? Which iOS? Some android alternative? – please do specify.

Do you recall when iPhones were compared with other devices in terms on how responsive they were in milliseconds? It was a point of pride when they were 10-100 milliseconds more responsive than other brands.

Now the whole OS ignores you for sometimes even >1 second at a time while it's doing an 'animation' (even when it appears to be done).

It's never been as bad as iOS 7.0 (the atrocity we had to live with for half a year), but even to this day I can't seem to naturally wait long enough for iOS not to ignore my inputs following just about any animation.

No issues on my 7 Plus. Apps open snappy with no lag whatsoever.

Re-indexing is one thing, but photo analysis (facial, object recognition), conversion to HEIF, and uploading photos to iCloud when you have optimisation on can also lead to lag, battery running down faster and phone running hot. Depending on the size of your library, this could take a long time.
