Anyone else having an issue where the phones rotation gets stuck sometimes when trying to go from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) and the only way to un-stick it is to lock the phone and start over?

Following the release of a new version of iOS, there are typically complaints about battery problems, issues with apps, and minor bugs, and the launch of iOS 11 has proven to be no exception.

On reddit, numerous users who have installed iOS 11 claim to be experiencing much slower app performance, app crashes, and other similar issues. The initial reddit post calls launching apps "an absolute chore," a sentiment echoed by dozens of additional comments.

Users are complaining that their phones "just get stuck on apps" and that a hard reset is the only way to fix the problem. Reddit, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, Safari, and more are all affected apps. Sometimes, apps refuse to open just launching from the Home screen, while at other times, apps launched from Notifications won't work, and there are issues with Bluetooth. The Now Playing widget in the Control Center is also a chief complaint, with multiple users unable to control songs on Spotify and Apple Music using the widget, and some users say their battery life has taken a serious hit since updating.

Not all customers who upgraded to iOS 11 are seeing these issues but based on the reddit thread, it seems a fair number of people are having problems. App updates and subsequent iOS 11 updates are likely to resolve these issues over time, but customers who want an immediate fix can try some of the methods reported to work on reddit

Some reddit users claim that resetting their settings (Settings --> General ---> Reset --> Reset All Settings) fixed all of the app issues, while others have restored their devices and set it up as new to solve the problem. Others have backed up and restored and had better results. From one reddit user on backup and restore:Multiple iPhone models appear to be affected, with redditors reporting issues on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and other earlier models. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus do not appear to be affected, and there are few complaints about iPad Pro models.

When I "upgraded" my old 4s from 7 to 8 it became barely usuable. Just typing in a keyword to search for in Safari bogged it down with no other apps running. After that experience I just avoid updating my iOS devices.

No offense but “not efficiently updating the OS” defies how computers work.

People always used to reboot or even reinstall windows any time they had any little issue. It pretty much didn’t fix anything 99% of the time. Same with these maneuvers.

Why would I be offended? If a restore is fixing the issues people are seeing, it seems logical that something about the OTA update is not properly updating the OS and/or introducing bugs and issues post-update.

That’s just logical. I’m not claiming to be right, however. There have been issues pertaining to OTA updates since they were implemented, I remember in the early days it was straight up recommended to update via iTunes in order to get a clean install, to resolve update issues caused by OTA.

Tim said he is thrilled to hear about all the slowness in older iPhones because of ios 11. This will improve the sale of iPhone 8.

Then when X comes out, they’ll be sure to properly throttle the iPhone 8 just so you may regret your purchase and hopefully buy the much more expensive X.

This is a weird one. Just noticed that volume control on my phone doesn't actually change the volume. It will mute when I click it all the way down, but when it's not muted, it stays at the same volume no matter whether I'm clicking up or down...

edit: A reboot seems to have fixed this. Weird.

I’ve noticed a few things....Seems like 75% of people just don’t see it, the lagg, the haphazard frame rate inconsistencies, the 3D Touch lagg etc. Then another 10% give Apple a pass and assume it’ll be fixed in future updates or blame the device your using. The rest of us see the little things, I notice a hiccup in scrolling, or 3D Touch lag, I notice the random “jank” littered throughout iOS. So it’s fine if you don’t see it, you may not care. I care and I know others do. We know what Apple is capable of and from iOS 7 till now, it’s been lack luster.

I genuinely want to downgrade back to iOS10, the performance issues on my 10 month old 7 Plus are very frustrating. It is slower overall, and has needed about a half dozen hard resets in the past week to deal with quirks such as media playback via CarPlay and even a complete freeze (never happened in the time I've had this device).

The cynic inside me is telling me that the delay between pressing the home button and it responding is deliberate programming to differentiate between the 7 and 8. /tinfoilhat

This simply can’t be true. Apple’s software is perfection. Those complaining might have mixed up Touchwiz with iOS 11.

My iPhone 8 Plus works perfectly, it’s fast and smooth... unlike the iPhone 6+ I replaced. I’m very glad I avoided this by giving Apple a lot of my money.

I noticed a slowdown on the 7 plus after the upgrade, considerably. The new iPhone 8 with new processor speeds everything back up.

Since updating to iOS 11 I have noticed shorter battery life on iPhone 5S. Still monitoring new iPhone SE.
Decrease is significant enough that I purchased a Mophie Juice Pack.

I thought I was going crazy. I haven't noticed any problems opening apps but the home screen interface is really laggy every once in a while, especially after unlocking the phone. Hopefully it will be fixed in 11.1. I'm also having an audio issue when I connect to my car with a lighting cable. Sometimes the song will be playing but no sound will come out of the phone or the car stereo. It is only fixed with a restart or I just give up and use bluetooth. I'm using the 7 plus.

Line the messaging app consistently locks up with me when I try to send a picture now. Need to restart the app

Apple should release a quick fix to solve the springboard crashing problem. My phone restarts 4-5 times a day after upgrading to ios 11. Mine is an iPhone 7 Plus.

How is it possible that's it's slower after Apple removed major features like 32-bit app compatibility?

wonder if it's only affecting users that were using beta versions? i used the beta software on my iPad Pro and upgraded to GM, experienced issues. but my phone 7+ went from iOS 10 -> final iOS 11 experienced no issues.

I don't think so, in my case at least..beta tester on iPhone 7 Plus with no issues, iPad Pro went from iOS 10 to iOS 11 also no issues :)

Same here plus I have had issues with adding songs to my play lists. It says successfully added but never really adds it. I have to restart the phone to fix issue. Never have been a beta tester.
