Should I do this if I have a couple of scratches on my phone? Will my scrubbing take care of them? They are like little knicks.

I'll take the bait. I highly doubt that doing this mod caused your iPhone to break. There is something else not being told, or you are the victim of a strange coincidence. I doubt they'll void your warranty either.

NO really, i didnt do anything to my phone, it just stopped working after i did this, however i turned my phone off for a day while i waited for apple to send me my loaner, and when i turned it on the next day it worked perfectly, so sent the loaner back to them and kept my original brushed phone.:), now im happy I did it, phone looks GREAT!!!!

and P.S. I am going to be posting this everyday until someone answers me

It depends on how deep the nicks are, you do not want to rub too much because the chrome stuff cannot be very thick, and you will want to be able to do it a couple of times in the future.

I bought my nano second hand (only a couple of weeks old) and it already had tons of sctratches on the mirror back, this mod worked great on it, and I will be doing it to my iPhone if it gets scratched.

To all posters who tried this mod:

When you use the scotch-brite sponge to do this, it just scratches the chrome finish? Is there any way that it will look uneven, like certain areas will come out differently than others?

I've seen the pictures but in many it's tough to tell, it looks like it comes out just like the back of the phone...

No sweat

I was surprised at how much pressure I had to apply when scratching it, but even more surprised at how even the finish was. After the first few (tentative) swipes, I scratched with confidence. Use long, even strokes and everything will come out fine. And if you see a few inconsistencies, keep rubbing and they'll blend in.

Just make sure that your tape job is accurate, and that you take your time and be deliberate with the corners.

I, like you, was very nervous about it, but now I'm recommending it to everyone I know with a scratched-up bezel (and I know quite a few.)

As for the final outcome, it may look the same as the anodized aluminum in its tone, but it's definitely a brushed chrome finish. In my opinion, it's a far more luxurious look. The pix don't lie.

Yep.. I did mine over three different "sessions." First time especially, I was too worried about applying too much pressure. It looks sweet as hell now (almost factory)!!

This looks awesome. I'm totally going to do it, as I'm fed up of wiping the chrome bezel every 5 minuites because of fingerprints, lol. :D

Awesome

I don't want to sound like an echo, but I've just completed mine, and it looks truly stunning. For those who are contemplating doing it(even if your bezel has zero scratches), I can 100% recommend that you do it. A little time, care and patience, and it'll end up looking better than brand new. :D:D:D
The brushed metal now merges with the backing to give it a more complete look.

Finished

I finished the process and I just wanted to say thank you for the idea. I really love how it turned out. See all of the pictures here.

I am seriously considering doing this. However, does it void the warranty? Will the Apple Store not take care of the "brushed iPhone" if it has a problem?

Regarding the poster that suggests the chrome can be rubbed-off. I have done mine on 4 occassions and pressed quite hard to get rid of knicks and it looks great everytime! Better look than factory!

Regarding warranty. Look at your iPhone can you see a scratch? Just because you meticulously duplicate a scratch...furthermore, you don't open the iPhone to perform the mod.

i had the brushed metal on my old iphone, and i took it to the genius bar and it was replaced with no questions asked about the brushed metal trim.

i loved the way it looked with it, but with my new iphone im not going to do it, it is nice to see something shiny again.

Can you take a realy closeup pic of the edge using the macro function on your camera. I want to try this aswell but I want to see this close up first :D

Cheers

That looks FANTASTIC! WOW! I'm REALLY impressed, nice job!

Someone should send these pics to apple and see if they won't make the next gen iPhone with the brushed bezel look! I like it MUCH more than the flashy chrome.

NICE WORK MEEK! (And all others who have followed!)

What? 3G iPhone?

The phone already looks like the new iPhone, because of it's changes. Probably the next will have 3G. I'm not meaning that this really IS the new iPhone, but it has the good-looking looks of it.
