I know this thread is old and all, but I just wanted to give my thanks to the OP.

Just decided to do this a few minutes after my brother showed me the thread.

It looks soooo good, and got rid of the scratches that were taking away from the beauty.

I just did this too and it looks fantastic! If I hadn't had lots of scratches I would have hesitated, but now when I see the result I think it looks a lot better than what it looked when I first got it when there were no scratches. Highly recommended. Also, fingerprints don't show up in the same way when it's not shiny.

I used a sheet of regular 3M 300 grit sandpaper. I experiment first with a few different sand papers on another piece of chrome just to get a feel for it, then went ahead on the iphone. Took about 20 minutes, very easy.

Great idea. Round of applause to our smart little friend here.

Don't think that he has to be called our smart little friend.

I think it was very innovative/creative. I love it. However, I would be afraid to do it myself.

How could this possibly void warranty? Its nothing internally going on with doing this mod. Strickly cosmetic. Love it!;)

after using the incase for my iphone i was alittle disappointed. for the first few weeks i used my iphone without a case and i was very satisfied with the fact that it didnt scratch very easily besides the bezel of course. when i went to look for alternatives and stubled across this. i thought it was a great idea. 20 minutes later and a little bit of patience my iphone has turned out great. the brushed metal look is so much more professional and edgy then the original chrome look. i greatly recommend this for anyone with those anoying little scratches.

here are some pictures from my results =)

Yikes, I have the incase rubber case, and just noticed I have scratces on the chrome.

The "brushed" look will scratch also, but those scratches can be removed again cant they?

Hey, nice iPhone Pro!
Seriously, I gotta do this, itll match my MBP

Love this look.

(The thing about the Incase rubber case - try to 'never' take it off. It loosens each time.)

I thought this was brilliant! I did it and love the look. I am alot less self conscious now about the edges.

Mine does not seem as dull though. I used 330 sand paper and there is still some shine. How long did you guys sand yours down for? I'll try to post some pics.

I did this today with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I used masking tape to mask things off as I didn't have any electrical tape nearby. The results look great, and the scratches that the Agent 18 eco case caused to my bezel are gone due to the brushed look!

I just take 10 minutes to do a 'maintenance' session and get rid of any new scratches. I am still a major supporter of electrical tape and a scotch-brite sponge!

Do you know is there anyway I can make it black brushed!?
I want to make it like that... Maybe I get a tinting film and open up the phone and get the brezel up??

Interesting and great work to the OP and all that have attempted and been successful. In answer to your post...what about using Gun Bluing? This technique is used by gun owners to re-blue their firearms....which would give it a Black appearance. I am not brave enough to try, but if someone does...show us what it looks like.

Will do mine, when and if it ever gets scratched up.

Good Luck

I did this to the back of my 1st gen ipod nano, it worked great, and when I get an iPhone I will do this when/if it gets scratched.

so i did this today and my phone broke
i didnt drop it
i didnt get it wet
i didnt do anything except polish the frame with the sponge
and afterwards the touch screen was unresponsive.
I restarted
I restored
I rebooted
NOTHING WORKS, but my phone looks nice
called apple and they're sending me a loner while they look at mine
Hopefully i havent ironically voided my warrarnty!!
should have never done it!!!

Took the plunge

I took off my Seidio case this evening to clean the gunk off my iPhone, and saw a lot of scratches on the bezel. After buffing the heck out of it, I realized they were there to stay. So...what the heck, right?

It was easy, it was quick (15 minutes), and the results are money!

For all those on the fence, do it. Don't be nervous about it. It's already defaced, so the least you can do is deface it with a consistent finish that looks even sharper and richer than the original.

I highly recommend it.

Thanks for showing us this mod! I did mine tonight (using electrical tape & a piece of green Scotch pad)... It looks SO much better now...

Should I do this if I have a couple of scratches on my phone? Will my scrubbing take care of them? They are like little knicks. I will post pictures if needed.

I recently tried to do this using steel wool and electrical tape. didn't work. didn't damage anything, but it didn't give me the "brushed" look"

I'm going to have to buy a scotch sponge

I'll take the bait. I highly doubt that doing this mod caused your iPhone to break. There is something else not being told, or you are the victim of a strange coincidence. I doubt they'll void your warranty either.
