Whenever I've ordered pictures from
Either iPhoto or Aperture, all relevant processing and shipping emails have come from an address with the exact same "donotreply@apple.com". Ordering pictures may not be relevant to this, but it is proof that Apple has legitimately used a donotreply address before.

i agree, and i'm not saying this has anything to do with "donotreply@apple.com" - that's not the email's header...

donotreply@apple.com has been used since at least 2008 for invoice receipts. have you ever ordered anything else from the apple store online? if so, you'll be able to find one.

red flag #1 on the headers is that the message-id is not from the apple domain, and in fact, doesn't even list the top level domain of .com

Message-Id: <20100622055524.150C01534F2C@biweb>

compare that to a shipment notification email from apple, where apple is clearly identified in the id:

Message-Id: <ec228d$qe8sj@badger-txnvip.apple.com>

red flag #2:

the message originates from the CDT zone, and it appears that this message actually started by being sent to this "biweb" server (this entry should start with "Received: from...":

Received: by biweb (Postfix, from userid 70) id 150C01534F2C; Tue, 22 Jun 2010 00:55:24 -0500 (CDT)

this is an example of the origin of a known apple email:

Received: from cbox-ignite03.apple.com (HELO clarion.apple.com) ([17.128.113.73]) by badger02008.apple.com with ESMTP; 21 Jun 2010 10:53:03 -0700

Thats where I was going to until i just called to confirm. Now, that doesnt mean that someone is still spoofing or whatever but Apple rep just confirmed that some iPhone orders will be arriving on 23rd.

Fed Ex still says mine is delivering on the 24th though so I hope the email is accurate in that the Fed Ex delivery time estimate is incorrect.

I watched all you guys get the email and didn't think I was going to get one. Went to bed and as I was leave out the door this morning check email just for fun and found I got mine too. =]

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

OK. Duly noted. This time tomorrow plus a couple of hours or sooner you will either been known as a genius or a honorary member of the Black Helicopter Conspiracy Witness Protection Program.

Actually if the email is a hoax I would expect a statement from Apple this AM or afternoon, at the latest.

Of course I don't have exact numbers. I didn't send the email out. How would I possible have access to that info? But just anecdotally, if you look at the response here of how many say they got the email, it's a lot. I got the email, and the email address I use I ONLY use for Apple purchases.

As for the headers, do you want to elaborate. Personally I don't see any huge red flag. Again, I think you are on a far reach for a handful of air.

well how do i know? you said it was a massive, massive security breach, and i don't think we could say that based on the replies in this forum.

i posted the red flags in a reply to someone else... please let me know what your conclusions are after reviewing your own header information.

I got this for my dad's and bro's, too bad mine that I ordered before theirs on the 15th hasn't shipped out yet. I hope it too will arrive tomorrow but its not likely. :(:(:(:(:(:(:confused::confused::confused::mad::mad::mad::mad:

All I can say is... HOLY SH*T!!!!!

Apparently my phone went on a baby wolf hunt with Sarah Palin and still hasn't left Alaska. My delivery date is the 23rd here on the far far East coast of Wilmington NC.

Got the email this morning too.

Mine still shows leaving Alaska yesterday (I'm in Kansas City).

Where for art thou? iPhone?

Mines already in Newark NJ, only a few miles from me. I have no doubt it'll be here tomorrow
Mines in Newark NJ as well, which I just found out to be 50 miles from my place of residence. However, I've done something so I no longer receive e-mails from Apple (or so I hope - I never got confirmation, shipment, etc). The anticipation is too much.

if this isn't a hoax, this time tomorrow i'll be eagerly awaiting my iphone, man. so hold off the witness protection program a wee bit ;)

and it would be nice to hear from apple either way - but if this in fact isn't a widespread breach (think more like a phishing attack - ie, no actual personally identifying information was found in the dubious email), then i could see apple letting this slide and turning their attention to more pressing matters, like moving as many iphones as they can.

I will say that the email came from donotreply@apple.com where the original confirming email originated from the Apple Store AND the second email does not reference an order or account number. I believe this is because the most recent email came from corporate not the retail arm of Apple.

Mine too. Still hanging out from what I see on fedex site. Supposed to be in Vegas by tomorrow. Crossing fingers.

i am in east texas, and the phone shows that its been in memphis for about 8 hours now. fedex still shows 24th by 430 pm. about 10 hours away on a slow fedex vehicle :p

Same and I'm in des moines...
Had Thursday off.. thinking of switching it to tomorrow.

GUYS

Take a breath. I just called Apple and said "I was very concerned my email address has been compromised and hacked" and read him the email. He said to quote "I understand your concern but it is a legitimate apple email". Due to the high volume of pre-orders some iPhone orders will be arriving early on the 23rd."

I said ok but Im anal about these things and Apple usually doesnt do this and so I am concerned someone got my email. He said "I understand but due to the unusual high pre-order volume, Apple is allowing orders to arrive early. I suggest you have someone around on the 23rd and keep checking your order status."

His name was Mark.

There you go. This is first proof i have received.

Feel free to call yourself but it seems that the ATT thing really did force apples hand.

Wow. Have been trolling these threads trying to find an answer. Thanks for doing this. I guess this is pretty good confirmation. I was worried as well - more that my email was hijacked than whether i get it tomorrow or thursday.

The email does seem strange. It's not formatted like a normal Apple email and it doesn't have any personal information like my name or order number in it. Still, I'll await an official communication from Apple regarding it's legitimacy if it really is a hoax, otherwise I'll be expecting it tomorrow. :)
