Yes the distorted screen, fingerprint scanner that’s next to the lens and can’t be comfortably reached, performance worse than last year’s iphone is truly a triumph. 5 stars. Would mock again.

Rise Phoenician Rise.....LOL

Simply the best

Honestly, what are the features that would make me purchase the 8 or 8+? Aren't they really just the 7 and 7+ with a new name?
Beginning to think I'll get a 7+ on sale in stead of one of the new models.
I did. Just picked up a 7+ jb. $550+ tax after $300 trade in rebate. Lol

That's a bit concerning, would expect 4 GB on a $1K+ iPhone X. Mainly concerned about future viability, as RAM continues to be the biggest handicap for older devices like the iPhone 6, which was given the same 1 GB as the iPhone 5s before it - and that was one of the reasons I waited for the 6s, did not regret it.

Is your contention that 3 years ago iphone performs worse than the Samsung’s best this year? I would certainly hope so. Shame 2 years ago’s iphone is comparable, last year’s is better and this years will completely dominate it.
No. What I was trying to say is that constrained RAM is planned obsolescence.
It performs well when it is released but gets slow shortly after. The 5s or 6 are best examples

Yeah, I still don't buy that the 8 and 8 Plus are just slight refinements the old 6 design. I think there are going to be significant differences.

Looks like I don't need to bother with the Apple event on Tuesday. This place already revealed all the juicy stuff.

I see a contention, but no evidence. Many are reporting that the 5s and 6 run the latest iOS 11 well. There are a few frame drops but that’s true of even the 7+ and will be resolved for all of these devices over the coming weeks. It’s an unfortunate side effect of an annual release for sure but I will 100% stand by statement that the 5s and up will run ios 11 completely smoothly. You can call me on it.

You would think the iPhone X would have been given at least 4 GB ram to deserve it's name which is the iPhone X. Isn't it running this newly introduced face 3D detection with some AR capabilities? The ram should have been increased for these reasons alone.

I'm betting the iPhone 8 Plus will be the fastest performer when benchmarks are done and will hold more in it's memory since it doesn't have to do any face detection or push the extra pixels/resolution that the iPhone X will run (for those performance and touch ID enthusiast this is the go to model). The more ram the better in my opinion especially for the added iOS software features too.

I’m wagering you are right. The 8+ will probably be the best performer all around.

Big CPU, battery and RAM pushing less pixels and more streamlined version of iOS is sure to result in speed bump.

In other words “The fastest device will be fastest”

What a revelation

Not entirely sure if iPhone X doesn't compete with the iPhone 8 too much ? Personally I always found the Plus to big to bother.

Also I Wonder if the removal of Touch ID is the future of apple for iPhones to come. Prefer Touch ID over face id.

Although iPhone 7 is still on iOS 10 I can already see the RAM limitation at some points.
Apple is masking it with raw CPU and I/O performance, so if something is out of RAM it generally loads really fast anyway, but constant reloads of tabs or apps after extended web browsing are unnecessary in 2017.

It's not even about cost or battery life, additional RAM isn't using any noticeable amount of battery and when even 130€ Android phones can ship with 3 Gigs of RAM it's most likely not a cost restraint decision either.

To me it's just an artificial differentiation between the different iPhone tiers.

Three things worry me about the X:

- Cost
- Loss of Touch ID
- Potential loss of battery life vs. the 7 Plus

If it's under $1000, Face ID is amazing, and battery life is same or better, I might jump.

3Gb RAM is not helping Android to compete. 6Gb RAM is not helping android phones to compete. This is the state of the art Android vs what will be the iphone budget phone in 2 days time

Sorry, no.

Samsung is the Obsolescence Master. The Galaxy Note 5, released in 2015 with the iPhone 6S, has 4GBs RAM. It will not get Oreo. Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5X, also from 2015, with only 2GBs of RAM, will. I'd probably find the same trend with every other non-Google smartphone.

On the other hand, iOS 11 will be available for the iPhone 5S, from 2013. If an iPhone 5S user is worried that their phone will slow down, and if they wait and reports indicate this to be true, they can stay on iOS 10, and they will still get security updates and support for at least another year, making their phone last for 5 years.

Bottom line: If you're not buying an iPhone or Nexus/Pixel, your phone has built in obsolescence.

iPhone X has 2436x1125 = 2740500 pixels (including the rounded corner and notch)

iPhone 8+ has 2208x1242 = 2742336 pixels (downscaled to 1080P)

So the iPhone X will have slightly more pixels to push. Also, the physical size of the 5.8" display is smaller than the size of the 5.5" display.

(just wanted to clarify these facts)
