Not entirely sure if iPhone X doesn't compete with the iPhone 8 too much ? Personally I always found the Plus to big to bother.

Also I Wonder if the removal of Touch ID is the future of apple for iPhones to come. Prefer Touch ID over face id.

It might be the future if TimMAY has his way. I think this might be his downfall.

Steve Jobs would have hounded engineers until madness to get them to fix TouchID under the glass. Not Timmy boy.

I have yet to hear a credible explanation of how someone is going to unlock an iPhone X w/ FaceID while driving a car.

Sorry, no.

Samsung is the Obsolescence Master. The Galaxy Note 5, released in 2015 with the iPhone 6S, has 4GBs RAM. It will not get Oreo. Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5X, also from 2015, with only 2GBs of RAM, will. I'd probably find the same trend with every other non-Google smartphone.

On the other hand, iOS 11 will be available for the iPhone 5S, from 2013. If an iPhone 5S user is worried that their phone will slow down, and if they wait and reports indicate this to be true, they can stay on iOS 10, and they will still get security updates and support for at least another year, making their phone last for 5 years.

Bottom line: If you're not buying an iPhone or Nexus/Pixel, your phone has built in obsolescence.

Lets be honest. Most people buying a Samsung are suckers, fooled by salesman who’s on commission at the store. Few informed people would buy them.

If the consumer understands what they're buying, hey, fine. The phones do look great and a normal consumer does not push a device very hard. I was just countering the FUD from someone I assume (because they are on this site) is an above average user.

Hounded? You’re being generous.

Steve wouldn’t have tolerated many things about iPhone designed released after the 4S.

He probably would have held back iOS progression as well. Tim has made some good decisions in that area.

I agree with you 100%

Also, the physical size of the 5.8" display is smaller than the size of the 5.5" display.

Indeed. Perhaps we should stop using screen diagonal as a measure of screen size; it's just misleading. Not sure why we're still using inches either, but that's another story.

No. What I was trying to say is that constrained RAM is planned obsolescence.
It performs well when it is released but gets slow shortly after. The 5s or 6 are best examples
6 Plus with resolution and graphics above 1080p was and is a total madness.

6 Plus become unusable with iOS 11 (GM). Too much refreshing, lacks of RAM.

I totally agree that iPhone X with resolution much much higher than iPhone 7, and higher than iPhone 7/8 Plus, should have at least 4 GB. Otherwise, future updates will kill it again. Even though the processor will be better than iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone X will retire in a similar period.

2Gb in 2017......smh
Actually end of 2017, most people will end up with 2 GBs of RAM for 2018+

what do you guys mean? Those measurements are a physical measurement and 5.8”’ is physically bigger than 5.5” because... it’s a bigger number??

Do you mean the physical size of the device?

You would think the iPhone X would have been given at least 4 GB ram to deserve it's name which is the iPhone X. Isn't it running this newly introduced face 3D detection with some AR capabilities? The ram should have been increased for these reasons alone.

I'm betting the iPhone 8 Plus will be the fastest performer when benchmarks are done and will hold more in it's memory since it doesn't have to do any face detection or push the extra pixels/resolution that the iPhone X will run (for those performance and touch ID enthusiast this is the go to model). The more ram the better in my opinion especially for the added iOS software features too.
Exactly, and iPhone 8 Plus will have lower resolution than iPhone X. Another factor proving that iPhone 8 Plus will be faster.

The 4.7'' model will have less pixels, so it should have the best performance for a single application if they use the same CPU (same clock speed).
For the same reason the 5.5'' will probably perform better than the OLED, unless they clock it differently. But they may have a smaller battery on the OLED, and they need to have a battery life at least comparable to the 7, so I wouldn't expect a really faster CPU on it.
In the end you may be right, 8+ could be the best performer, and will have more RAM than the 8 so it should work better with multitasking

Next years "S" model of the iPhone X will have 4GBs of RAM.

Next year I'd expect their lineup to switch to OLED, I don't know if they'll call the phones 8s they might switch to a new naming convention or move directly to iPhone 9, we'll see. The true S model may come in 2019 and have of course better CPU and maybe more RAM.

Why the High-End has to be gigantic?

Note: I love the handling of the SE

Do You not see the irony in your post? You like the handling of the iPhone SE, yet you question the size of the larger iPhone. Because everybody has different appreciations for different sizes. I can comfortably hold the 7 Plus and easily use it one handed with reachability, which imakes it more accessible to access the user interface. Where as the iPhone SE is to small, has a smaller display that I would not prefer and a lower resolution.

Apple’s never had a problem with ram.
Speaking as someone who’s had a 4s and is now on a 6, the third year of both devices has been painful, and I’m pretty sure the low ram is to blame.

Unfortunately I seem to be cursed with always buying the last iPhone before they up the ram. :(

Why are the forums filled with people yelling (off topic to discussion):

“Apples keynote is over”

“It’s spoiled now, no point”

“Tim failed at doubling down, he needs to be out”

Yet you all fail to mention that Apple probably intentionally leaked to bring up press prior to the event, which I’m sure will have more in store.

They come to an Apple rumours site and then act disappointed when they see rumours / leaks. I mean.. what do they expect. If they don't want to spoil the keynote then stay the hell away from this site for as long as possible on the run up to the keynote!

I know this is an Apple-centric site but.. seriously.. Samsung make some pretty awesome handsets regardless of where your brand loyalties lie. I personally wouldn't buy one - I've no interest in Android + all their stuff dumped on top, not to mention now this Bixby nonsense but for plenty of people they're fantastic handsets.

So is it the distorted screen, inability to keep apps in memory compared to an iPhone with half or less of the memory, the inaccessible fingerprint sensor, or the lack of meaningful updates that really impress you?

Less snarkily, what is it you think is especially impressive about them?

Apple’s never had a problem with ram. Their phones outperform every single android phone. See note 7 vs iphone 7+ And every other comparison video.
I read that snapdragon is just now catching up to apple A9 chip in single processing power. Not worried.
[doublepost=1505105077][/doublepost]

The note 8 has 6gb of ram. I’m willing to bet that the new generation iphones will outperform it.

iPhone 6 Plus did indeed have memory issues for many users.

Out performing a device is not an issue, crashes when switching or multitasking is.

Apple isn't in the spec race if that wasn't already made pretty obvious. They will however beat you most of the time via optimization of their own hardware.

they kinda are but not on purpose as the 6s wasn't still beaten on single core in geekbench by its competitors, only by the 7

Just cos Samsung is doing s*** doesn't mean that Apple isnt doing the same.

I have the 5s and a 6s running. The 5s is already sooooo much slower. You don't have to wait for iOS11. Its already present.

Just opening Apples standard apps like the calculator or compass or even just typing. Where it's instantly on the 6s you wait for a couple of seconds on the 5s.

Of course there are worse performing phones on the market. But Apple is limiting RAM and with each iOS update slowing massively down user experience. Just to make more money by forcing people to upgrade
