iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus to Feature 3GB RAM, iPhone 8 to Have 2GB

Just cos Samsung is doing s*** doesn't mean that Apple isnt doing the same.

I have the 5s and a 6s running. The 5s is already sooooo much slower. You don't have to wait for iOS11. Its already present.

Just opening Apples standard apps like the calculator or compass or even just typing. Where it's instantly on the 6s you wait for a couple of seconds on the 5s.

Of course there are worse performing phones on the market. But Apple is limiting RAM and with each iOS update slowing massively down user experience. Just to make more money by forcing people to upgrade

I don’t think Apple is planning for obsolescence. They are planning for short term profits which has long term ramifications. Meaning Apple skimps on RAM to save a few bucks per unit.

They don’t have to worry about forcing upgrades when there’s lines around the block every launch day.

iPhone 6 Plus did indeed have memory issues for many users.

Out performing a device is not an issue, crashes when switching or multitasking is.

I had memory issues on my iPhone 6 as well, no need to have a plus to experience that.
6s with 2GB of RAM was a relief, and I don't feel the need to have more memory at the moment but of course I wouldn't say no to an increase. I find it more necessary on the iPad since you can make a better use of multitasking, but even on the iPhone is great to go back to an app and don't see it reloading due to memory constraints.

LOL, classic Tim, 1000 usd phine and they kill it with RAM, same story as with iphone 6 plus.. and next year, we sill gladly sell u new iphone with 4 gigs

The new OLED display should offer a nice distraction from the RAM issues. The difference between playing a 1080p HDR YouTube video on my S8+ and its 1080p equivalent on my 7+ is like night and day.

The iphone's HDR capability for video watching has not leaked yet. Shhhhhhh....it may not be there. :D

If they do go into HDR and they follow the mobile HDR Premium codec or HDR10 codec, that will decide which HDR format gets the most support surely.

2 GB on the iPhone 8 is lame. The iPhone 8 is the iPhone 6 of this generation. I am so glad we passed on the 6 and got double the RAM with the 6s. I find it hilarious (but not unexpected) that two years later it’s still stuck at 2 GB RAM. The 3 GB on the likely very high dollar iPhone X is also disappointing (but again not unexpected)

We will stick with our 2 GB 6s and 3 GB 7 Plus. It now seems almost guaranteed that September 2018 will bring a RAM boost. It will be interesting to see if they get 4 GB all around, if they go 3 GB for the smaller model and 4 GB for the bigger.

By referring to anything by the rag that is the Mirror, you have publicly lost any credibility you thought you had.

It might be the future if TimMAY has his way. I think this might be his downfall.

Steve Jobs would have hounded engineers until madness to get them to fix TouchID under the glass. Not Timmy boy.

Yes, because ad hominem attacks completely help your point.

I have yet to hear a credible explanation of how someone is going to unlock an iPhone X w/ FaceID while driving a car.

There are no credible reasons as to why someone should need to unlock an iPhone X w/ FaceID while driving a car.

Samsung user: "dude, you got 2gb ram? That's a lot man!"

Apple user: "isnt it beast?"

Samsung user: "yeah..it's a beast. Unfortunately i have 6gb ram on my note 8. It sucks!"

Coming soon to the nearest theater...the sequel of "dude, where's my car?"
....new movie "dude, where's my rams?"

Hehe, indeed. Most people saying that more than 2gb is not needed in iOS, must have some of these few magic iPhones that miraculously work fine when you open more than 2 tabs in safari. I have a normal one :(

I wonder if the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will have any distinguishable physical changes to iPhone 7. Like the most notable difference between 6s and 7 was the different position of the antenna band so it looked different visually. I wonder whether or not 8 will have anything that will make it different looking than 7. Has there been any leaks about that?

Again, you didn't have to update your iPhone 5S. That was your choice. Apple does not force you to update, they just offer it. You have MacRumors as a resource. When there's an update, wait, listen to the reviews, ask your peers here on this site, and update if given a clean bill of health. Otherwise, stay on the version best for your phone and you will still receive security updates such that you can keep using a damn good phone safely for five years.

Now, is Apple calculating what they can get away with not adding and still be competitive with high-end Android handset makers? Yes. They know the inefficiencies inherent in Android and know what they do or do not have to add. And I'd agree 100% that they messed up in their calculations with the iPhone 6 (which I owned) and that it needed more RAM. But, all handset makers are doing the same, and Apple is not even close to being in the top five of the worst ones.

iPhone X? As in letter "X" or Roman Numeral "10"?

(If it's letter X then that it just plain stupid and TC the absolute worst.)

Apple desperately wants to spoil their own surprise.

Surprise doesn't bring in the cash. Hype does. It's pure viral marketing 101. We're all buzzing about it trying to find out each and every rumour/leak detail. That's exactly what they want.

You would think the iPhone X would have been given at least 4 GB ram to deserve it's name which is the iPhone X. Isn't it running this newly introduced face 3D detection with some AR capabilities? The ram should have been increased for these reasons alone.

I'm betting the iPhone 8 Plus will be the fastest performer when benchmarks are done and will hold more in it's memory since it doesn't have to do any face detection or push the extra pixels/resolution that the iPhone X will run (for those performance and touch ID enthusiast this is the go to model). The more ram the better in my opinion especially for the added iOS software features too.

Right, they should do what you think. Not what the research and development team and testing teams come up with data. Nope, just provide 4GB RAM because some Samsung-fan on a forum board said so.

Really don’t get all the complaining on this one. 3gb should be plenty. 2gb should be absokutely sufficient too. Not sure how long folks expect their phone to last but unless you’re keeping this for 3+ years your 2gb should be nothing to worry about.
