If you have an active AT&T SIM, just swap the SIM and skip the delayed activation and save the activation fee.

Dave

That won't work. The phone can only complete the process using the IMEI number that was registered with AT&T at time of purchase. You have to go through the process first, let it activate as it was preconfigured, then you can swap SIMS.

I had the same issue and called Apple. They just had me power down the phone using one of the volume buttons and the right side button and then when it restarted i was back at the beginning of the setup process and it went fine from there.
I tried that, still with no luck. I've been trying to activate for the past hour.

Boggles my mind that Apple can't handle today or Pre-order day. They have to have an idea of what demand on those days will be like, no? How can they not be adequately prepared? Or is the data demand so great that there is nothing they can do with current tech?

Right every other company tools up with extra equipment needed for one day a year. Right.......

I see there are a total of 3 activation screens:

1- Initial?
2- Confirm your phone number
3 - Confirm zip and last 4 of SSN

It can fail at any of those 3 sending you back to #1. At least mine failed at all 3 during different attempts.

I'm out for real now. I'll try tonight.

After swapping SIM cards, I got to screen 3 for the first time but the activation did not work, either.

Seems to be getting worse for me, I can't even get to the phone number screen anymore.

I love it when I get the phone number screen, only to click next and then get the "could not activate iPhone" screen.

So I called AT&T, they said I'm activated on their end. Yet I can't get past the "Could Not Activate Phone" screen on my phone

You have MILLIONS of people activating these phones and its not just AT&T--just have to wait your turn

Mine isn't working either, I called Apple support and they said AT&T and Verizon are both having activation issues caused by the number of people activating.

Well, after an hour on the phone with Apple and 3 hours with the phone, they have come to the conclusion the phone is bricked. The AT&T error was a symptom. They are sending me to sales to get me a new phone, waiting on a timeline as to when that will happen. FML.

Due to not being able to activate? We're all in the same boat.

My phone on t-mo breezed through setup fine. Was using wifi for OS update/downloads/etc, then after about half an hour it said 'failed to activate'. I called T-Mobile, gave them the SIM # and they pushed through the activation. Said it may take up to 2 hours but it was done before I ended the call.
