Decided to put it in recovery mode and update it to 11.1 in the meantime...

While waiting to get through I tried the same.... volume up, volume down and then press/hold side button.
All it does is keep rebooting.

what am I missing?

I called att and she forced an activation, meaning now my old phone is no longer activated and I can't get through with the X...
what a bummer!

you folks on plans? anyone pay outright and still have an issue? I did pay in full but-

I mistakenly (most likely my fault at 3 am) was shipped a t-mobile version. I am on att, and mine fired right up, to my surprise it said t-mobile, no activation at all (was on wifi calling). Then swapped my ATT sim, and bam, instant.

I never had to enter anything, just restored from backup of my 6S. Did use the cool iPhone feature where you take the photo of the other phone image to copy iCloud data. (like the apple watch setup).

Just got off with Apple. They no idea about this. Hooked me up with sr advisor. Said issue is on Apples end.Was ready to beam ATT.lol

volume up. volume down. side button - hold. keep holding even after reboot until you see the iTunes icon.

Apple confirmed to me it was an Apple issue and recommended NOT having AT&T manually activate over the phone because this would cause my old iPhone 7 to deactivate but the new X not be able to properly activate on Apple servers and be usable.

I was told to wait and given a free case so I guess there's that

I left out a detail actually. They said that the phone should show up in iTunes. Instead, I am getting this. They also said they can see it on their end as well.

I made the mistake of going to AT&T's website and activating my line. It shut off my old phone and my iPhone X still won't activate. No service on both phones now. Not cool.

Let's try this: everybody else stopping trying to activate now and we'll see if mine activates. ;-)

This is maddening!

Same thing here. After a few minutes it went to a screen to verify my Verizon info and then crapped out

i get this as well. one time i actually got a screen asking for my zip code and social. it won't connect to the servers, doubt it's your phone

Are folks setting up manually or by using a device close by on iOS 11? I activated my iPhone X around 9:30AM EDT and initially had the spinning screen hang on confirming my number over and over. I would have to shut down and restart to the same issue. I was doing a manual setup because my old iPhone was still on iOS 10. I then dug out my iPad Pro that is on iOS 11 and set it up the automatic way with iPad close by and had no issues with AT&T activating after doing that. Do not know if that was just a coincidence but worth a try for those still having trouble if you are trying to do it manually.

Tried both, neither work.

Yes, I paid outright and have this issue.

Update: Everyone else is right. Not my phone, it is for sure on AT&T's end. I am putting my flame suit on.

No cellular service on either old phone or new phone. At least my watch still has cell service....

I've had generations 2-10 iPhones and with the exception of the 2nd one and the activating in the store, this is the biggest pain. One hour now and no farther then I was when I opened the box.

Nope, not confirmed. Go ahead and check out ATT's activation server online and notice that it isn't working either.
