Out of the blue my iPhone X had 25 hours usage and 25 hours standby today. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary. No apps installation or updates. I did notice all week long email was taking a long time to get pushed, not sure if it was related to one another. Did a network reset and problem gone immediately.

And yes it was actually draining. Last night I left it with 72%. This morning it was down to 56% just having sat there overnight.

Wait, after network reset your battery indicator is wiped, how do you KNOW it is solved? YOur usage and standby info is erased after network reset, unless you charged to 100% again and after that you are saying all is OK, so please describe for me so I am sure I know what is going on, as mine is doing it again right now.

Yes it reboots after the reset and it clears the battery usage. I then charged it back to 100%. 10 minutes after coming off the charger it said 10 minutes standby and 0 usage. Currently it’s at 8 hours standby and 2hrs of use which is about right.

Well, yeah. Mail.app is keeping the phone awake trying to send the email. Can't make any other comment than that, who knows why? Cellular coverage issues, network issues, who knows? But that's what was keeping it awake.

THe default email app on the phone, that one? Trying to send an email you wrote? Or trying to relieve them , is that the push thing?

Is there a way to turn the email only portion of phone off to test to see if that is it?

No I don’t think it was that. As I said the slow mail push was happening most of the week, but the standby = usage only happened for one day. I would’ve noticed it right away as I habitually check battery stats. Besides mail did not show much battery usage for that day.

I am suffering the same issue. I had standby and usage at the same time for a while but it has now morphed into keeping usage at 0 while standby goes up which is normal and expected but as soon as I use the phone in any way the usage starts off from there. Sometimes it goes up 2minutes per hour, sometimes the whole 60mins.

I've been using iPhones since the 3G and have always been able to eek 2/3 days usage out of them but am barely managing 1 at the moment with more stuff turned off than usual. Resetting network settings helps for 24 hours but then the cycle starts again. If I reset network services and then charge overnight, I get great battery life until I next have to charge and it starts again.

Edit: forgot to add that using any app makes it quite hot near the camera. I'm assuming thats where the A11 is? Also turning off wifi helps extend the battery life a lot.

Does anyone know if this issue is fixed in iOS 11.3?

Note: I know iOS 11.3 is not released yet, but maybe a Beta tester can comment on this question.

Tech support has said Apple is aware of the problem but it helps to ‘be counted’
This way Apple realizes it’s a problem we must take care of. Call tech support let them know

Hi,

Think I’ve found the problem. The engineers are having my data (again). So hope that I hear more after Easter.

But this is what I noticed:

One day I toggled off all auto updates. In the iTunes and AppStore section. I did that because an app had updated and it did not work anymore. But I noticed after a few days that my phone didn’t drain and also did not have the same usage and standby time. So after two weeks (two weeks with a battery that lasted 1,5 - 2 days!), I toggled all the auto update stuff back on. And after 1 day it came back.

I toggled it off after two days of draining and because I wanted to know if it stopped again. But it didn’t work.
It did work after a soft reset.

Again for over a week it didn’t happen. Everything was fine.

Then I toggled it back on last Friday. With the knowledge of AppleCare. And yes, last night de battery drained again.

Also, my phone had updates. He did the updates while WiFi was off, airplane and energy saving was on (!!).

I noticed that while I have energy saving mode (with the orange battery icon) on, that apps still update!
That’s weird because it says that auto updates are off while that mode is toggled on!

I’ll let you all know what apple is going to do. I hope they will look better through my data now, because it’s the 5th time I send all those files. And every time they want something different. (Been doing this since November).

And maybe you can toggle all the auto updates off and then soft reset your phone. Test it for a week or better for two weeks. And please let me know here :)

So this are my settings when it happens:
- at night airplane mode on
-at night WiFi is off
- always battery savings on
- auto updates are on

When it doesn’t happen everything is the same except that I toggled of all the auto updates in the iTunes and AppStore section.

My troubleshooting has led me to wifi being the culprit. Only way to sustain the fix is to have wifi turned on only when charging for backups etc and to turn it off before unplugging. If it gets turned on after unplugging then it starts again.

Okay that’s strange!
I toggle my WiFi off before unplugging it and set my phone in airplane mode also before unplugging and it still happens. (I thought it had to do with WiFi too, so that’s why I toggled it off before unplugging and set it back on when I woke up..)
But when auto updates are all toggled off, then i can do everything. It just doesn’t happen then. Even when I forgot to put the phone in airplane mode it was 100% after a night of sleeping. (With auto updates all off!)

Sorry English is not my own language so I hope you understand what I wrote :)

Auto updates,. you mean in the app store updates of apps or update of IOS? I have to manually click "update all" or I can choose one only and update it in the APP store, is that what you are talking about? I didnt even know there was an auto update feature for the APP store.

Found that option, mine was OFF and has never been on yet I have had this usage same as standby issue over and over. Not having it for a week or more now but not holding my breath.

I mean the toggles in the menu from the phone and then in the ‘iTunes and Appstore’ menu (between ‘privacy’ and ‘accounts and passwords’. There are 4 auto download things you can change and there are things for auto play video’s in the Appstore and other stuff. I toggled everything off and then it didn’t happen for two weeks. And when i toggled it back on it happende again. The second time the problem didn’t occur for 1,5 weeks and when i enabled it it happend again.

I testet three times for a few weeks. I really hoped that it was something to do with the auto updates ( in combination with the energy savingsmode maybe, because my apps are still updating with that mode enabled).

But now i don’t know it anymore haha! Ill come back here when i hear from the Apple engineers!

I’ve been on iOS 11.3 beta for about a month and it fixed the issue. If you want to try it out for yourself here’s the link https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

Try updating to iOS 11.3 beta it fixed it for me. https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

Oh no! It’s so frustrating isn’t it!
Do you have this problem also since late October? My phone (iPhone 7) was just fine before that iOS 11.1.? update..

I really hope iOS 11.3 fixes it..

It is a x that I got a week after launch. It started around January for me.

It seems different for everybody then..

I updated my phone to 11.3. So fingers crossed! My phone is feeling less laggy so hope the battery draining stops too finally.
My battery’s health is still 100% as stated in the new battery info (have this replacement phone since January). So I’m happy it didn’t effect the health/capacity.

Updated to 11.3 couple days ago, today the god damn thing is doing it AGAIN. Usage is now running same as standby but for the first 8 hours it didnt. Maddening

Now it stopped doing it...I will test this for a while

Anyone here who HAS done 11.3 and is still experiencing the issue, please post.

My isn’t doing it (yet). But it is draining! I have to plug my phone in the charger 2 times a day. Did a clean install of 11.3.

How long does the indexing after an update take normally?

I also didn’t hear something back from Apple care yet..

after updating to 11.3 i haven't seen this bug again, but i'm not convinced it's gone yet. it usually takes 1-2 weeks for it to pop up
