Some people use the iPhone without a case. I don't know how many of them, almost every iPhone I see during my commute is on a case so I bet the vast majority of users feel safe with a case, but I can see why they offer a variety of colors.
I used to carry my iPhone 5 "naked" but stopped with iPhone 6, it felt too slippery and the following models were no better.

At least me I carry my iPhone X “naked” in my days off but when I’m working I use the case.
Hopefully next iPhone 11 won’t be slippery but stylish the same time.

OCD at its finest. Who cares are you staring at the back or front of the device and where are you storing the device that debris will get into that little space vice any other crevice between the phone and case.

Assuming there are slight tolerances in apples offical cases - as my leather black case fits flush with my X camera bump but a few people have pointedly out their leather case has a slight gap - this could be a situation where some cases work and others don’t fit the XS at all. In which case this Macrumours headline is kinda misleading.

I’ve ordered a new XS case. If it fits my old one great, I’ll return it.

At $1799 for an iPhone you better hope it's staring at me.

If the XS cases were designed to fit both models of iPhone, then Apple would say so - which it doesn't. So they aren't.

Editor: that's not how you spell "accommodate".

I don't even know why people are that concerned about a smidgen of a gap? If it affects the phone and means it'll be damaged then okay you do you but seriously? I don't know, for me it seems too much of a first world problem that is not actually a problem.

But it sounds like using an XS case on an X should be no issue right?

It’s not an issue, people OCD is making it an issue. If people are so concerned to keep their device in pristine condition either don’t unbox it or two use clear tape on the back of the device. Problem solved (ghetto phone case).

Yes as it would have a tiny void space around the camera.

I think so. I think it's the other way around, ie my stack of X cases, that I may need to be concerned with.

Thoughts on the microphone grill on the bottom left? I know some cases have made the port smaller because the grill is smaller on the XS. Will a case that partially cover the microphone grill on the X cause any issues?

Yep, complaining about things that are a non issue or not important, when you are spending almost 1k on a device and you cannot afford a $10 case, while there are a lot of people who go to sleep hungry at night. Misalignment of priorities.

It depends on which hole Apple actually uses for the mic on that side. I know the majority of those holes are dummies.

Looks like the hole(s) closest to the lightning port are the actual microphone holes, per Per https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+X+Teardown/98975 :

That being said, I think microphone-wise, an Xs case would work (provided the camera cut out is large enough).

holes are either for aesthetic and/or cooling purposes. Nonetheless no reason to cover them or not as it is more dust and water resistant.

I feel like I am the only person who has not been able to use any case when taking pictures while using a Flash. The case always reflects flash and creates way to much noise in low light pictures. I feel the opening should be 3 times the size of the lens and 2 at the very least.
