I can't take a picture, but my iPhone X in my Brown Leather Apple iPhone X case has a very similar gap. It may be a touch thinner of a gap, but looks almost the same.
Same here. Not as bad as picture but was close enough not to take back. My first thought was wondering about quality or design because was not a perfect fit. So now curious as how the xs
case will fit. Will it be fairly exact or have gap. So are all case manufacturers having to change design?? Also, what are chances deliberate change to drive case purchases?

Incidentally, I’ve never gotten the big deal about the iPhone back colours when I’m too scared to use the device without a case anyway. Do you guys use clear cases or something?

It at least made some sense when there was a front to the display—I’m posting this from a white-front 7 Plus—but with that gone, is there any point to the colours for us case users?

I don’t use a case. Never have and have every iPhone since the original. I stopped breaking screens around the 5S.

Nah, it‘s a good point.

The old leather case (Spring Yellow, not sure about the cases before) for my original X already has that gap on the original X and therefore might fit the XS perfectly.

And the new covers might fit the old phone as bad or well as they did before when no-one noticed that small gap.

I went ahead and bought a torras iPhone X case off Amazon to use on my XS when it arrives. It looks like if the measurements in the original article are precise that this opening will be too small. I tried the case on a friend's X and it was snug so even ~1.4mm may make it unusable. Will see when the XS arrives on Friday.

I feel like I am the only person who has not been able to use any case when taking pictures while using a Flash. The case always reflects flash and creates way to much noise in low light pictures. I feel the opening should be 3 times the size of the lens and 2 at the very least.

The only time I use the flash is as a flashlight.

We're not really judging an exact fit from a leather case, are we? Has anybody analyzed the CAD or 3D models? How about cases that *don't* have the tendency to warp a little bit over time?

What's the point of Apple making the phones thin, lightweight, and colorful if you're going to put a bulky case on it?
If they weren't thin, lightweight, and colorful, people would still put a case on. Then it would be thicker, heavier, and whatever-colored.

I take my chances without cases. Never smashed any iPhone ‘to bits’. I prefer handling the iPhone exactly as it is out of the box. Plus, I don’t prefer the added bulk in my pocket with a case added on.
So don't use a case then. Who cares who uses one and who doesn't? It's your phone do whatever you want with it.

Here’s my iPhone X with the new iPhone XS green case. Minor gap around the camera bump, no difference on the bottom of the case for those wondering about that. Fits and feels great.

THE LAST 50

Headlines of this website were about oversized and overpriced iOS devices and iToys.

The last article about Mac hardware was 60 articles ago.

This website is used by Apple to promote its iOS devices and iToys.

Macrumors is biased.

This is not journalism anymore. It is advertising.

Shame on Macrumors.
The timing of your gripe is almost comical.

Correction though, it has been 51 articles actually, and within those there have been well over 10,000 comments and likes. FWIW The site is titled "MacRumors News and Rumors you care about" , and has been for quite a while now. Judging by the comment activity there is quite a bit of interest in iOS right now, especially considering this is the time of year we get new mobile devices and operating systems from Apple.

If you want more Mac directed content , follow and participate in the Mac Blog, as there are postings almost daily regarding Macs and their related software / ecosystem.

Many people don’t use cases.

I gather I can exercise my preferences with a case or not. Point is, The Member I quoted used more hyperbole than necessary, hence my reply.

That article also says that the magnets have been re-arranged in the XS and that results in the folio case being ineffective to sleep/wake the phone. If that's true that really sucks. $99 isn't cheap for a case. I really hope that was unintentional but given Apple's attention to detail I kind of doubt it. Milking your loyal customers that upgrade every year for another case is ridiculous. Not everyone that buys Apple is super rich and Apple claims they want to make their tech more accessible. BS! Way to keep your margins at 40% AAPL! Well done.

I have liked and used bumpers mostly since the iPhone 4. I really like seeing the back glass and logo. As it shows on the back of this phone, the case and rear glass protector actually do work. The glass is over a year old and has cracks and chips that it suffered over that time, and both have done good at protecting the phone.

What's the point of Apple making the phones thin, lightweight, and colorful if you're going to put a bulky case on it?

I am pretty sure I've made this exact argument for previous iPhones, and I agree with your sentiment, but there's plenty of cases that barely add any bulk at all (including Apple's). Plus, try as I may, I cannot use my iPhone X without a case. The glass back is perfect for grip, but set it on a car seat or a couch cushion and it will slide everywhere. It's annoying and greatly increases risk of damage.

Did you put the 2 cases up next to each other?
Sorry, I did not think of doing that at the time. Ran home to grab the green case at lunch, put it on the phone and came back to the office. Snapped those photos with my testing SE device. The rest of the testers and cases are in my home office unfortunately.

While I’d love to jump on the “this is to sell cases bandwagon” I don’t think it’s unrealistic to have expected a slight difference given the Gen 2 Face ID System. Besides, what is the percentage of people who purchase a new case with a new device? It’s gotta be over 80%. :apple:

So when I look at speck for example they say fits both X and XS. Well done Apple. Money grab even at case level. Probably highest market up percentage wise.

Apple cases are pretty minimal while still offering drop protection. I used to buy the super thin millimeter cases that were basically just a scratch protectant. But now I need something thicker considering how expensive the phones are now, Apple cases fit the bill.
