Which color are you getting

I plan to pick up the silver/white phone, but always struggle finding a case color that compliments white. Any suggestions?

I've had Silver/Gold phones the past few cycles and put the Apple Leather Case on them, Saddle Brown. Eventually the leather wears and gets a nice dark patina.

Except that you buy a really expensive glass/stainless steel phone and then getting a plastic case (with the cheap plastic feel) to put it in.

Why get an expensive phone if you can't show off its beauty? As long as the clear case offers protection, I'm perfectly fine with it.

To each their own, I guess.

The space gray iPhone is dark gray, not black.

The stainless steel band is dark gray, not black or silver.

The black is a PVD coating.

It may be hard wearing, it may not. It certainly won't be as hard as the DLC on the Space Black Apple Watch.

I prefer the Space Grey to the Silver but will probs go with the Silver in case the PVD scratches easy on the SG.

PVD is good enough for Richard Millie watches so I guess it’ll be good enough for the iPhone.

White looks nice, may hide minor scratches and fingerprints better than grey, and the SS should buff out minor scratches. But does it look a bit too blingy?

Space grey is more understated, and I think I prefer the grey SS band. But if it’s like the watch, you won’t be able to buff out scratches on the band.

Why would you worry about this? You will not see the white unless you get a translucent case.

where did you hear it's PVD?..

iMore say it's a DLC coating.

Either way there's been no official information directly from apple to say it's PVD or DLC

good spot. So now the debate starts - PVD durability vs SS polishability?

always bet on black

It's basically the same as putting steel rims on a Lambo.

Im still trying to decide black or white (or gray or silver). I saw the 8 at the local store. The white phone looks like off white/light grey to me and the stainless steel is too shiny. The black looks grey almost too pale and the stainless steel is matte.

does anyone know if the 8 and the X are the same black and white?

all we seem to have is the various hands-on videos and the very controlled Apple marketing images. I would love to know more about the actual colour of the backs and bands and I'm surprised I haven't read more about it.

I know you're referring to it being white, but it is silver. Even after watching some of the hands-on tech demos after the keynote, it clearly looks silver to me.

agree.
i went into apple store today.
from the photos i was anticipating a kind of milky white but still white.
but the colour on the back of the iPhone 8 is very much a grey white, more light pastel grey than white.
i still do like it. its a very adult, quiet white.
but definitely not white.

question: many posters in this thread have indicated the band on the white model is stainless steel.
is this true?
the band on iPhone 8 white model aluminum, carrying over from 7 and even 6.

if the band on the white iPhone X is indeed stainless steel then i will chose the white model.

the band on the space grey iPhone X: then is this anodised? if so, what is the base metal?

Surgical‑grade stainless steel.
The stainless steel band that wraps around and reinforces iPhone X is a special Apple-designed alloy that’s both durable and more pure, and it polishes beautifully. For the space grey finish, we use a process called physical vapour deposition to precisely match the colour of the stainless steel band to that of the glass.

[doublepost=1506687872][/doublepost]i think i'm going for the SG version. the border of the silver X looks too shiny for me and SG also hides the protruding camera better...

and i think it's less eye-catching and people will notice it less. ;)

If you want one launch day don’t be picky is my advise. The front of each color is identical. Backside for most of us will be hidden by a case.
