both are really stunning colors, but I prefer the white/silver, it looks very elegant, but since i plan to hold on to this phone for 2 years, i will get the space gray one, i dunno but for some reason i get bored with a white back or gold back (which i had before) rather than the space gray, since it is a "safer" color choice for long-term use...

It's not DLC, sadly. It's a PVD coating.
It may be hard wearing but we won't know until they're out there and people start using them.
I prefer the dark colour but will most likely go with silver for the ease of minor scratch removal.

I just enjoy to hear and read about a lot of potential buyers will purchase the white color. As I love jet black or any black color too.
I remember how quick black color was sold out on previous cycles. I am glad not this time. Thanks to Apple and all other potential silver color buyers for making it happen.

on the flip side, I think silver sells out first for the X. I believe that was the case with the 8/8+ as well. The silver 256 models were the first ones to slip.
Silver all the way, because it’s the most remenisant of the original iPhone with the black front and stainless steel sides and “silver” back.
The space grey is quite nice too (judging based off of space grey iPhone 8/8+) but after owning a jet black 7+ For the last year, I don’t want another fingerprint magnet (doesn’t actually attract more, it’s just way too noticeable.)

i don't know if that's higher demand or lower produced units though. apple knows very well how many dark and how many of the light models they usually sell and i guess they shift production accordingly
So are the sides on the silver and black different colors then? Silver being stainless steel and Black being the darker stainless steel? I can't seem to find this info anywhere and the pictures don't do jack to show it.

It is confusing, right? You’d think Apple would have more images to better show the colouring etc. Even on their web page they have a very limited gallery

I’ve seen three polls on reddit so far and all skew HEAVILY towards space gray being more popular. Wonder if it’s different here on macrumours due to Apple/Mac people’s traditional affinity for white...
I bought a SB SS Apple Watch series 3. I might as well keep uniformed. After watching the second video today, I was sold on the Space Gray. Pre ordering the 256 GB version. Completely the opposite combination I had in mind at first. Lol
caseless since iPhone 4(2010). I care about the color of my phones.
Yeah, the silver is very/almost too pretty and incredibly „look at me“ while the space grey is a harmonious whole and rather stealthy. Still undecided myself.
If you really want to get a gauge for the bands around the phone, honestly go look at the apple watch. I've owned both a black SS watch, and the reg SS version, I returned the plain SS version after a week because honestly the thing was a scratch magnet, and I really do not want to be bothered with polishing scratches out of anything.
I've had 2 black apple watches and experienced zero problems with either.
For my 7 plus I have used the Apple silicon or leather cases which i really love because they fit great and look extremely nice, however they do have that cut out on the bottom, and I just knew that the silver after a very short period of time would start showing those dreaded scratches on that mirror finish. The color is not a giant concern to me since I use a case and the back is covered, but the wear and tear on the band because of the case I use was a big deciding factor.
so with that said...I went Space gray!
