Not a video but i dont have video editing software right now. This is recorded with a Sennheiser e906 mic and an Audient iD4 interface.

and its not the evil piano track everyone says is at fault, its another one

if that's acceptable for a 1200 dollar device, i don't know what to say anymore
Sounds pretty bad on 8+. Top speaker seems to be the issue.

Still convinced this has to do with hardware over software. The speakerphone is either shot or loose or makes something nearby resonate. I have 2 new iPhones coming in to troubleshoot the issue--one direct from Apple due Monday via FedEx, the other from Verizon shipping out first week of December. Almost tempted to just wait out the one due in December when hopefully by then, they will have figured out the defective batch of speakers on the assembly line.

I won't buy into their patch to reduce the volume output by 30%--that's total BS.

Can somebody record the crackling sounds and share a YouTube video? I'm looking into the matter.

The comments about Apple paying us for our silence are silly and completely false.

Here you go. Notice the volume is not at max either. Speaker sounds horrible on calls.

Add me to the list. I’ve got speaker crackle, and rough/unfinished steel edge on the left side of the screen.

Should I go to the Apple Store and ask for a replacement, even if I bought it from a Verizon store? And would my AppleCare+ automatically transfer to the new phone?

Same as mine. Calling 1.800.MYAPPLE makes it happen at 60% volume and above. Insane for $1200.

I agree, this is a phone at the end of the day and it sounds horrible on ALL speaker calls at a reasonable volume.

Exactly. And people pretend it doesn't matter or I should just turn the volume down. Unable to place a proper call via speakerphone when my hands are busy and/or I'm on a conference call is a big big problem to me, especially for 1200 dollars. What baffles me is that every bloody iPhone X I have had in hand (including nearly 20 demo units across 2 Apple Stores) ALL exhibit the issue. I just don't understand.

I’ve had mine replaced twice and still have the issue. The display models and a few employees phones at the Apple store have the same issue. This is unacceptable, hopefully a fix will come soon.

I cleaned the speaker grille with rubbing alcohol and it has fixed mine. I posted this in the cover story forum in this issue and another member used compressed air with similar results. Mine definitely had some sort of film not letting the sound come through cleanly.

So you just wiped it off with a cotton ball and it’s fine??

Just tried it and happy to report that mine sounds nothing like that: the sound is deep and clear. No buzzing or crackling whatsoever. I guess, there are some bad batches out there with bad speakers. Might be different suppliers, as pretty common with Apple.

Does the crackle sound like a distortion like when you overload your speakers by making it too loud?

No, more like a component that’s loose or resonates by the high frequency of the speaker. Can’t tell if it’s the actual membrane itself or something in there—it almost sounds shot depending on what’s being played.

Im on my second phone and crackling here while using my phone. I guess Apple quality control is not what it used to be.

But people will tell you that only a handful of people are affected. My point exactly: the replacements or new ones out of a new box are also flawed. Mind blowing.

This sounds terrible on everything I play it on. This is a terrible sound to use as test. This sounds bad on a pair of 600 dollar headphones I have!! I am experiencing the crackle, but this song has a crackle on every device I use.

i am currently getting loud crackles almost every time just before getting a notification, and sometimes from waking up from sleep.

Of course it has crackle on every device. You realize it’s a recording of MY iPhone X playing the song. That’s the whole point. I mic’d my iPhone speaker.

I guess that proves how bad it is.

Love the phone but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the speakers slightly sounding a little crackling whenever max volume. Noticeable on certain songs and even my ring tone which was bought from the iTunes Store.

I compared it to my 7 plus and that one didn’t have a slight crackle.

Thanks guys
Yep. Mostly over my car audio, but sometimes with earpods in.

This youtube link is the most characteristic video of the issue I have seen so far. Sent mine for replacement, they are waiting for new stock to arrive after Nov 24th, which hopefully means it is going to be from a different batch (not much point in replacing them in order to get another one from the same shelf).

Seriously, playing music through the speakers in the phone....!!!! Ignoring the fact so many people feed the need to listen to clips or have speakerphone calls in public, which shows a lack of manners and disregard for others nearby, the quality is atrocious. No device with such small speakers (and little internal space to provide any sort of bass) can generate a decent sound. Just don't do it.
