Read on here that blowing the earpiece/speaker out with air worked ..so I tired it today and it fixed the problem, not sure why but it did.

So I talked to Apple care and set up a replacement. Apparently they charge a $29 fee for this? To exchange the phone???? I mean, really? Is this fee reimbursed? It must be.

Any updates from Apple about it ?
I’m still in the 14 -day and thinking of returning it .
How many of you succeded with the manual break in ?

Mine arrived yesterday and it doesn’t have the rattle. I tried paying Youtube at max volume on both IPhone X and IPhone e 7+

I played that piano piece posted a week ago in the thread at max volume again today, and the static is almost completely gone in the same phone. Maybe there's some truth to the break-in rumours? It sounded absolutely horrible when I tried it last week.

I know that for car speakers it takes time for them to perform at their best. My previous Audi had 16 speakers and it took several weeks of listening for the speakers to reach their full potential.

Took mine into Carphone Warehouse and was told that I shouldn't be playing music at that high a volume and that they wouldn't normally replace a phone for this reason. To be honest, his comment did annoy me but after a short discussion, it was agreed a replacement would be ordered.

Funnily enough I was told that the replacement would be here tomorrow (Friday), however, this has now been delayed until next Friday. I think it has to be said, that the Customer Service (Phone not in-store) for Carphone are pretty awful - I've spoken to a few helpful people but the majority of them seem like they don't care and don't want to be there.

Will of course update this thread with the results as and when I receive the replacement.

Has there been anyone who had the issue, and got a replacement that didn't have it? I think maybe they all have it, but not everyone is sensitive or care enough to hear it.

Human ears have different frequency response. I can definitely tell the crackling sound when playing piano audio on my iPhone X at max volume. But when I let a friend listen, he said he cannot hear anything abnormal. I haven't found a single iPhone X in the apple store that does not exhibit crackling sound. So I highly suspect it is a universal problem.

Honestly, I did the same. I love the X but the narrow display, horrible audio and the fact that the 8+ is insanely beautiful display wise and design wise made it a great move..

Let apple work out the kinks of the X design and save about $300 in the process.

Win/win

I don't have an X (I have an 8 Plus) so this might not be relevant... but I have a crackle in my audio in select apps. It doesn't show up in Music, TV, or even HBO Go, but it's everywhere in YouTube on every video I try to play. It's really disorienting and makes it impossible to enjoy the video with the crackle so constant. The fact it's so selective in where it happens suggests to me, at least in my case, it's software-related.

Just reporting that there's a good chance your audio issues might be relevant to software and not a hardware issue. I didn't read the whole thread, so apologies if someone else said something similar.

im guessing its not worth returning the phone at this point?

Imo, the x speakers are smaller thab 8+. The volume may be too high for the size. I guess only way is for apple reducing thr max level which will be suck. But anywho i like 8+ speaker way better with deeper bass than x. Also i hate oled display with the blue tint and smaller video playback. Will wait for next years plus size.

my wife's 8+ sounds way better than my X.
But I can't stand the size of the +,never have gotten used to it.

I just replaced mine in apple store - same thing !
Checked another customer phone (who wasn’t aware of the issue) and its the same.
Checked few more on the display - same.
I believe everybody has it , probably they can’t tell or don’t care or doesn’t use Max volume .
Maybe apple will fix it (or just set a new Max level)

My launch day X top speaker sounded crap. I have another X landing on me tomorrow. If it’s the same I am giving up and just gonna get an 8+ to replace my 7+ which is now overdue to another family member.
Like other posters have said......maybe the 8/8+ is a better option till Apple iron out the X format

8+ has in-app speaker clipping since it’s release. I’ve tried almost ever public beta and public OS. Still there.
