Put a case on your IPhone X. Be sure it has a soft or lined inside
You’ll avoid most of the scratches and you’ll get some drop protection

It was almost given that surgical stainless used on the iPhone X would scratch or scuff relatively easily. It's just the downside to stainless steel. My best recommendation is to use a Cape Cod cloth and finely go around the edges to remove them. Or, find a case that has a microfiber lining that surrounds the stainless casing to help protect it.

Here's my take on things. It's a daily driver. Even in a case it gets all kinds of use and abuse, put in pockets with other stuff, thrown about a bit, dropped occasionally. They are bound to scuff up somewhat, and that's fine. It's like buying a new car and expecting it to never get a scratch or paint chip. Sure, cover it up in a garage it may not, but what's the point in that?! I bought a car to use and enjoy and any scars it has add to its history, same with a phone like this.

Has anyone the same issue? I got a lot of tiny scratches on my iPhone in the stainless steel frame

looool I've got no scratches thus far and I don't use a case.

I got the Silver version and its been fine and i use it to watch my tv shows to and from work an constant whatsapp group messaging during work.

I’m rocking mine naked. No problems. No scratches. So far it feels a lot more solid and scratch resistant than my 7 Plus, and I used that one naked for a year. I got a grand total of one small scratch on the front that you can’t even spot unless you’re looking for it.

So much of this has to do with how you use it and what kind of environment you’re in. I’m in the Pacific Northwest and I work an indoor, computer based job, so my phone doesn’t see a lot of “action,” so to speak, and there isn’t a lot of abrasive particulate flying around. I’m also really careful about not dropping it. I’ve had an iPhone since the first gen and in all that time I’ve only broken two screens... so far.

I've never broken a screen or even got so much as a scratch on one. I always use a case too so the back is protected, simples. Some people abuse stuff, some don't.

For those going naked, any worry about scratching the camera? Or since it’s sapphire that’s not usually the case?

There is a noticeable scratch across the camera lens on my 5s, but the lens itself isn't scratched. Only the glass around it, and that is the 5s so I don't worry one bit :)

The Apple case will not stop the SS from scratching, in fact the case will cause it to get scratched. Debris will get between the phone and case and scratch the device. No much you can do if you use a case like this. Soft silicone cases will do the same.

It's like the old iPods, breathing on them results on scratches.... :)

Does no matter. That is not the point , with SS you can polish scratches out. Any scratch on the space grey cannot be polished out.

Remember the space grey iPhone 5 ..... good example of scratches to stay ...

I wish the space black had SS band actually for that reason

I have to say that I had a Tech21 case on my Black/Slate 5 and it still doesn't have a scratch on it. It's retired now, but I still have it and it looks like new still. Not all cases cause scratches. If you pick the right case, I am sure the SG X will hold up just fine.

Woke up this morning, took out my iPhone X my otter box case, and noticed a small scuff/scratch on the bottom left side of the phone. Thinking it was a smudge proceeded to clean it. My heart fell when I️ realized it was a scratch.

Sigh...it was meant to happen, but didn’t expect it to happen when in a case. have a feeling my wedding band might have scratched it at some point.

Anyone else? Anyone else have a scuff already? :(

When I get mine — probably in Space Black, too — I’m going to take a nail and gouge one of the edges just so I won’t have to worry endlessly about “microscratches”.

??

Staintless steel is supposed to wear this way, and it looks beautiful over time. It can also be polished back to mirror shine (see: Apple Watch).

My wife watches shows in which appearance of use and "wear" is actually celebrated. They call it "patina" on those shows... maybe that's what you should be after ;)

Makes me laugh at the things people will resort to saying in order to justify their purchase! So now silver owners realise that it doesn't look quite as nice, and the subject of scratches comes up, you can now polish them out  This then becomes a 1UP on those SG users who apparently cannot polish their scratches out. Oh how terrible. Never mind how I've never, ever in my life polished any phone for any reason. It's a daily driver, it's going to get scratched and scuffed up. Deal with it people.

Having said all that, when I went to the store to look at the X, the silver ones were all scuffed up around the bottom where they get docked. The SG ones were pretty much flawless. Now, either nobody picked up the SG ones, or, it's more durable and therefore doesn't need to be polished. Suddenly SG is better than silver based on fact, not just opinion.

I'd like mine to show a little bit of tool-like patina, too.

Somewhere on the interwebs is a series of photos of a first-generation iPhone, used without a case for its entire life, with its frosted aluminum finish scratched and burnished by living in pockets with car keys and whatnot. It looks pretty cool, too.

(I've been searching for it this morning and haven't found it yet; I may update with a pic if I do)

I believe it was this one? I agree with you as well

Yes! That one exactly. I wish I could see it in person.

I'm going to need to convince my wife to let me use my next iPhone caseless.

Resale value? Pffff. I usually keep my phones for so long that whoever wants it would have to get a new battery installed anyway.

Besides, not using a case should encourage me to keep it nicer and not, say, throw it against the bookcase when my ISP's customer service pisses me off again...

I'm naked and no scratches so far. looking forward to them on the stainless just not the screen. As far as the letterbox guy that got a scratch from in case, thats happened to most my phones that have been in defenders, they rub.

Except you can polish stainless steel easily and maintain a nice shiny coat. Once SG scratches it's done. Other's have already scratched the SG band and have no option other than deal with it. It appears the PVD coating they used isn't the same as on the SB apple watch (which is very strong). I'm much rather take little scratches that I can buff out occasionally than the other option. Let's see whose phone look better after a year ;)
The SG won’t scratch unless you drop the phone...that is a sure thing. Now, we all should take care not to drop our phones, correct? The silver band will still scratch bad if dropped and you will say it won’t look as noticeable, and will still be buffable...no sir, any deep scratches will still be there, noticeable or not at first glance. And who buffs their phones?

We are talking proper usage (no drops) here so the silver one will scratch from slight rubbing and the SG will remain scratch free!

And check out the demo units in store and marvel at the SG ones with no scratches while weep at the silver ones with all sorts of scuffs, especially at tne bottom where the charging dock is mostly in contact with it.

Careful -- once you go naked, you won't want to go back.
