IMHO the ideal price point for X would be:

• $999 256GB
• $1149 512GB

Forget the 64GB altogether.

Interesting to see Apple now only offer the 7 and 7 Plus maxed out at 128GB - no more 256.
Maybe they need those 256 yields for the 8/X?

it is not about yield .. it is about demand , 256GB is very expensive and when you pay that much you will choose the 8 over 7 granted ...

I'm sure the screen is nice. But Samsung makes that screen, so not much different than any of the other Samsung OLED screens.

Face ID: Ugh. They spent years building up Apple Pay as a thing in stores. And now they are going to make that process a bit wonky.

I'm more interested in the 8 than the X. Front facing speakers have been improved. Same chip as the X inside. More AR goodies. Fingerprint reader. Home button. Nice, solid update to that one. I don't see a compelling reason to spend the big bucks on the X. I'll wait until the kinks are worked out. When X2 or X3 rolls around (or Xs?), it will be rock solid and perhaps have a fingerprint reader built into the screen.

Yes, and even worse while driving.

Apple really doesn't understand how people use their devices in the real world. The beauty of the fingerprint reader is that it's a no-look unlock.

I don't understand this logic, are you unlocking the phone to not use it afterwards? You don't have to look at the phone to unlock it.. but what are you doing with it afterwards that also doesn't require a glance at the phone?

I will have to see this in person to truly decide, but... I thought I could get over the side bezels. Finding it pretty hard to overlook that for an "all glass" front. I think Samsung did it better with the curved screen to give it a more beautiful "all glass" look.

The Fanboyism here is garishly disturbing. The FACE ID failed in the demo and yet everyone is applauding it.

This will not be easy to use in the car while driving at all. Nobody is even mentioning that.

It didn't fail. It did what it was supposed to. It's just someone forgot to put in the PIN after turning on the phone. If you watch the video it says on the phone you can't use FaceID until the passcode has been entered. Just like with any iphone now. You reboot it, you have to put in your PIN before you can use TouchID. pay attention.

So let's see.

I secure my phone by limiting what can be done while locked (including Siri) because there's an ongoing series of information leaks.

I have to unlock my phone while driving to change directions or use siri to reply to a text message.

I hold my phone up to my face and look at it, then also swipe up from the bottom of the screen. While wearing gloves. in the winter.

I either get in an accident or get a ticket because it's no longer hands free.

Explain to me just why a home button is so bad?

You don't have to hold the phone, just lay it there, look at it for a sec then hey siri direction to... or hey siri send message to.. no touching needed.

I'm going by a small size market sample, i.e myself and nobody else, but I really have to wonder how the X will sell. Face ID, at least to me, feels like a gimmicky upgrade from Touch ID. If I upgrade from my 6S I think it will be to the iPhone 8. Just my own feeling on the matter. I'm sure there are many people working at Apple who forgot more about marketing in the last five minutes than I could know in ten lifetimes, but it feels like $1,000 is a line people may not want to cross.

Really? Other manufacturers have 3D scanning with no notch? Ok, buy that phone then.
You do realise nothing about the phone has to be changed for this **** to work? The notch could of been worked away by just having the screen start underneath... Also, pointing out a design flaw means I have to buy another phone? What logic.

Given that you can point the camera at the owner's face to unlock it, maybe create a security feature for the user to show a certain emotion in their face (frown or raise eyebrows) to require a password to unlock.

So are you telling me that an OLED panel, Face ID and Animojis, make spending 300 dollars more on a phone worth it?

Great job on being objective macrumors :)
People spend on stuff they like. If you don't like it don't buy it. For some it's worth it. For others maybe not but there are cheaper options.

wont make any difference ... moving parts on the face will not change the spots the software uses to know who you are ..

it has to do with skull structure mostly and distance between organs.

I don't understand. Don't most of us stick our iphones in cases so as to protect these expensive devices from drops? So what's the big deal about the design when we cover it all up.

What happens when you give your phone to someone to take a picture of you?

They do hide the notch in some cases. I would prefer if it were hidden in all cases via software, but it's not a deal breaker.

This, this is the thing about this update, a few years ago almost nobody had doubts about upgrading when it was a "number" change, when it was an "s" upgrade it was be debatable.

It's nothing to do with the number in my case. I really couldn't give a crap about the number or whether it's a s model or not. I really like my 7+ but also the fancy dropping down to the size of the X as the plus is just a little larger than I want now.

I've had every model bar the 3G (2) and the 6. I didn't upgrade to 3G due to coverage where I lived at the time and I had a really cool case for my 5s that I dearly loved and would not fit onto the 6.
