The Fanboyism here is garishly disturbing. The FACE ID failed in the demo and yet everyone is applauding it.
It didn't. They forgot to do the first unlock after reboot, which always require a passcode. Maybe device crashed and rebooted while it was waiting to be presented. It's an alpha.

I am concerned about Face ID mostly because Touch ID worked flawlessly. Why change it? Who asked for it? I can unlock my 6S WHILE lifting it up in order to use it. With the X, it's lift, then look, then swipe, then use. This is terrible.

about privacy and face id .. now anyone can take your phone put it in front of your face and unlock your phone .. police will love this!

Well, you can sort of resist it by keeping your eyes closed or looking away. Touch ID, on the other hand, was loved by law enforcement.

I think we all agree.

But they had no choice, it was either touchID and huge bezels or come up with a work around ie FaceID.

TechRadar is saying it failed a lot for them as well. Not a good first day.

Does have a feel of a solution to a problem that didn't exist. TouchID is so seamless, I find myself unlocking the phone as I pick it up in one single movement before I've even looked at it. Now I'll have to look at it, wait for it to unlock and then swipe upwards. Watching the first hands on videos there's a very slight but noticeable delay. Equally removing the home button adds a more complex interaction that for many might not even comfortable single handed.

I wonder if the iPhone X FaceID is actually the equivalent of the first generation of hit and miss fingerprint recognition?

We can pretty much guarantee that touchID will be the big selling point of the iPhone Xs.

Definitely will want to try before I buy with this one.

Laughing at "resist it"

have you been around cops ? there is no resist once you are in their hands.

I'm disturbed by people speaking of looking at their phone while driving. FaceID isn't needed to see who is calling you on your phone. A phone doesn't have to be unlocked in order to be answered (hopefully with a Bluetooth device or built-in Bluetooth in the car).

eek AUD$1,829.00... i might be waiting until iPhone 10X and then just get the last year phone at this point, my iPad Pro 10.5 cost less, i think i could buy a Macbook at that price.

I love to buy it but can't justify it at all.....

I'm going by a small size market sample, i.e myself and nobody else, but I really have to wonder how the X will sell. Face ID, at least to me, feels like a gimmicky upgrade from Touch ID. If I upgrade from my 6S I think it will be to the iPhone 8. Just my own feeling on the matter. I'm sure there are many people working at Apple who forgot more about marketing in the last five minutes than I could know in ten lifetimes, but it feels like $1,000 is a line people may not want to cross.

I'm on the same boat as you, the price difference between 7Plus-128 and 8Plus-64 is only $30 dlls, I really don't need more than 64gb, basically I will update to the iPhone 8 Plus 64, keep it a year and hope for something different next year, it not, just keep the 8 for 2 years and wait for the iPhone 9 or iPhone XI o_O

This will not be easy to use in the car while driving at all. Nobody is even mentioning that.

I'll reserve judgment until the release. They have two months to address bugs, improve the experience, and speed up the performance.

There is no way to force a person to open his eyes and look at the phone if he doesn't want to without resorting to good old torture. You can't just forcefully turn someone's eyeballs to the sensor like you can do with his finger. In that sense, Face ID > Touch ID.

The notch doesn't really bothered me until they showed us when ur watching a movie in full screen, there no black bars and they embraced the notch even there which looks like cutting out video
What video is that? I am really curious what playing videos will look like on X

This helped me to make a hard pass on this iPhone :(

The first Apple product I am avoiding due to terrible design decisions.

This would be the third one for me after new MacBooks and iPhone 7. Both times the newer models were less capable than the ones I owned. It seems that bean counters are back at making final design calls again. I'm stepping off the treadmill too.

It's so manipulative. They know 64GB is too small for anyone who really uses the phone extensively. 128 would sell like hot cakes for 100 more.... So cut that out and make it 256 for 150... That an extra $50 we're all gonna pay and they know it and did it intentionally.

Let alone releasing it 2 months later gets a2 extra monthly payments from us Upgrade Plan folks...

You are so spot on I wish I could give you more thumb ups. You are someone that gets it.
