I think we all agree.

But they had no choice, it was either touchID and huge bezels or come up with a work around ie FaceID.

TechRadar is saying it failed a lot for them as well. Not a good first day.

Yeah no Touch ID is what kills it for me. I love everything else about this phone so I'm hoping they figure out how to embed Touch ID under the screen for next year's upgrade.

Sony already put the fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone and is working fine with them. There is no need to put it under the screen at all.

Apple just does not want to pay for using the patent thats all . because it is patented.

Two simple changes will make it much more attractive are removing the ugly notch and centering the rear camera and making the camera housing the same color as the back so it's not an eye sore.

Finally a phone too expensive for me. I’m looking for elsewhere now.

Initially, I was all for no-bezels and was convinced that I would get the new bezel-less phone regardless. Now, after unveiling, I am not so much convinced that I want one. I think I might stick around for another year with my 6S.

I don't know, maybe all the leaks spoiled it for me. But other than the gorgeous new design, I don't see anything here that's truly "revolutionary." That justifies spending almost $1,400. I say $1,400 because I'm assuming the 256 GB model will be $1,100 plus $250 for AppleCare and taxes. And the iPhone 8 looks exactly the same as the 7. Kind of disappointed in the iPhone line up.

More like $1348 pus tax for the iPhone X. The 256GB model is $1149, and Apple increased the price of AppleCare+ for the iPhone X to $199. The price of AppleCare+ remains $129 for the iPhone 8, and $149 for the iPhone 8 Plus.

are you forced to use face id to unlock the phone or can u turn it off and just stick with the passcode?

biggest thing for me is having a smaller phone with a larger screen, i have iPhone 6, so 3 years old, deff need an upgrade

Good. No one should be even glancing at their ****ing phone in the car. It angers me to no end.

And yet you have to watch at it now. Before you could just put your finger on and get your navigator back. This is really stupid

Wished Steve was there to fire all of them. I'm so ***** done with Apple being so greedy, unreasanably priced for 0 inovations. It is against what people really was hoping and still they're trying to present it as the best. I just hate this fishy slimy attitude of theirs. I'll stick with my 6s for few more years I guess..

What video is that? I am really curious what playing videos will look like on X

Full screen landscape looks like an idiot created the device. Best thing I can relate it to is your wife placing a tall plant in a decorative vase on your tv stand in front of your brand new TV. All you're going to want to do is throw the damned thing off to the side but can't.

It's odd that they dedicated the entire presentation to him yet blatantly quote him talking about skating to where the puck is going. They live so much in the past and I think that's because Tim is afraid of doing anything unique. Jobs saved the company from a bean counter that flooded the market with devices so incredibly similar to one another that consumers eventually became too confused with the product line. For the first time ever Apple has released a brand new iPhone with a design flaw that many are going to hate enough and buy the iPhone 8. They also introduced an Apple Watch with an equally as puzzling design flaw - a red digital crown button with literally zero real point. The previous Apple Watch Edition in Ceramic White was simple and elegant. I cannot imagine people buying a Ceramic version with a bright red blob on the side. But then again, most people are sheep.

The last paragraph baffles me! "...starting at $999 for the 64GB version and rising to $1,149 for the 256GB version." Why on earth introduce the 256GB version if it is $150 more expensive?! I don't need 256 GB of storage, but I do need 128 GB. Apple's logic is absolutely convoluted here! Keep the 128GB if you can charge only $100 more for it. Jeez!
This is what makes me mad. I have a 7+ I was planning on getting the x with at least 128 storage. Seems like Apple knows those people will spend 150$ more on top of a grand. I'm seriously considering a note for a year till things settle with this phone and 128 is standard.
Sounds like money hungry apple to me. I don't like that one bit.

about privacy and face id .. now anyone can take your phone put it in front of your face and unlock your phone .. police will love this!
Maybe contorting your face will help? Police will have to get a court order to get you to straighten your face

I just don't understand why there is no option for touchID. A figure print sensor on the back or one of the buttons is way better than no touchID at all.

Thank you! What is with that red crown? God awfully tacky and distracting!

Oh, and beyond that- having that ever-present white "home button" line on the bottom of the screen is almost as distracting and annoying as the notch.

As people have already stated, the phone was not authenticated by a passcode upon boot. It's the same thing when you restart your iPhone and it requires you to type in your password before you can use TouchID.

It's a rather big goof up on the stage though. He should have said... still asks for a passcode upon restart.

I think this is the reason Sony releases their phone in the US with the fingerprint sensor disabled

Yet he showed it off another 5 times without a hitch. Let's not focus on one tiny demo error
That's the thing, tho. There was no error. The phone was prompting him to enter the passcode to enable Face ID, no different than when you have to enter it for Touch ID after restarting the phone. Apparently they had restarted the phone but not done the initial unlock. See for yourself:
