Still not tempted by iPhone "Notch" @ parity with USA $999 = UK £999 with exchange rate currently at £1.00 = $1.33
price should be £752.44p NOT £999.00

A grand for a phone, you've gotta be kidding.
I couldn't agree more. A grand is a ridiculous price when you consider the competition can do it for so much less. Although I'm due for an upgrade next Spring, I'll pass. No phone is worth a grand.

The Fanboyism here is garishly disturbing. The FACE ID failed in the demo and yet everyone is applauding it.

This will not be easy to use in the car while driving at all. Nobody is even mentioning that.
Not exactly true. Similar to how current iPhones require the passcode to be entered before Touch ID can be used after the device is rebooted, the device Federighi used initially had just been rebooted, as evidenced by the message on the screen. But hey - I bet that sounded great when you typed it out.

Blame Samsung for this , They are the ones who first priced their Note 8 a $1000 ...

1. Why is no one talking about the apparently significantly improved selfie cameras on x? (It is, isn't it?) That's a very universal use case?

2. Did anyone do a hands on with the 8?

Price in my country € 1349 for the version with 200 gigabytes of storage. for a prototype of next years phone wow

I'm not judging in real use. I'm judging in common sense. The phone requires you to look at it to unlock.

No other iPhone requires that. Common sense tells me that will be difficult to do while driving. You don't have to look at any other iPhone to unlock it and get Siri driving instructions. On this one you will have to.

That in and of itself is a serious limitation and/or danger of the device considering how people currently use their iPhones.

If you think that people should change rather than the device, well than only fanboyism can explain that, not common sense. :D

You can just replace "driving" with "biking" and get the same problem without violating the law.

search for "iphone8 hands on" in youtube

I hate the notch so much. Why in the world is it like that. ughh. please apple rethink this.

Yeah because Apple would have priced it at $500 otherwise. Samsung were anticipating the well rumoured price of the iPhone X and jumping on the bandwagon.

Who cares about selfies? One selfie picture every 5 years should suffice for everyone who is older than 18.

This phone and pricing is a joke, My 2 year old Samsung Galaxy 6s Edge Plus is a nicer looking flagship than this.

Apple is just so lazy at this point. Recycling the same phones year after year, then putting a premium price on them. But until the Kool-Aid drinking Apple sheep stop buying them, and say enough is enough, Apple will continue not to innovate.

I've said this many times. The blind loyalists are their worst enemy. They cry for Apple to give them something new and amazing. Then go ahead and buy Apples recycled designs. Or pay for overpriced hardware like the iPhone X. There is ZERO reason for that phone to cost that much when you have a phone like the S8+, or the Note 8 that has so much more functionality. OLED screens are a STANDARD with Galaxy phones. Even the entry level Galaxy C and J lines. What an absolute joke. As well as the tech sites that are eating it all up because they're afraid to offend Apple and not get invited to the next event.

More like $1348 pus tax for the iPhone X. The 256GB model is $1149, and Apple increased the price of AppleCare+ for the iPhone X to $199. The price of AppleCare+ remains $129 for the iPhone 8, and $149 for the iPhone 8 Plus.

So, $1,400

Wow. Matching the screen quality Samsung has offered for years is worth praise like that when Apple finally does it.

Talk about setting the bar low for Apple.

This is the perfect example of where the notch is really, really bad if there is no setting to get around this. I can easily see games where that is the exact and only area where you need to click, and you can't because of the notch.

If you watched carefully, it was Craig who messed up (not the product)

The first unit had just been powered on for the first time which always requires a passcode (as an extra layer of security). Touch ID and Face ID only come in to action on your second use of the phone.

The backup unit had previously been unlocked with a passcode hence Face ID was available and worked.
Thanks for pointing that out!

Here I sit with my iPhone 5s wondering when Apple is going to get back to making phones I actually want to buy.

No headphone jack? No Touch ID?
I really really doubt they'll reinstate the headphone jack and it sounded like Face ID is where Apple is going from here on out. So I guess it's up to you. Is it just the bits of hardware hanging off the device you need or the Apple ecosystem of devices, free software and not so free services?

are you forced to use face id to unlock the phone or can u turn it off and just stick with the passcode?

biggest thing for me is having a smaller phone with a larger screen, i have iPhone 6, so 3 years old, deff need an upgrade

Passcode is still an option. They joked you should still use the passcode if you have an evil twin, since twins will fool the Face ID.

On the first face unlock try it failed on stage for Craig - not worth it to me. I think I'll wait and let them get that fingerprint scanner integrated into the display on a future generation.

In the mean time pick up an 8 and enjoy saving a couple of hundred dollars...
WRONG. Face ID did not fail. The phone had apparently been restarted but not been unlocked yet, which is why it prompted him to enter his passcode in order to enable Face ID. No different than when it does it on the current iPhones for Touch ID after a restart. Don't spread FAKE NEWS.

I'm in the camp of I think it's a beautiful phone and I don't mind the notch nor the 64Gb base (That's my current 6s size, never had an issue). The price is meh, but I've gone in with the expectation of $999 and monthly installments so it doesn't hurt as much.

I'm not sold on FaceID over TouchID though, especially Apple Pay, 1 step forward 2 back there. I am still going to miss the 3.5mm jack as well for when I use my crappy backup headphones. (More dongles )

Once again I can't think of any overarching benefit to use FaceID over TouchID. If ain't broke don't fix it Apple.

They should have skipped the face id and stuck with touch. The touch id home button was something that made the iPhone better than the competition. I can unlock it in my car without taking my eyes off the road or on my desk without picking it up. On the road, it must be unlocked to use CarPlay, so no, I don't use my phone while driving.

Now Apple chases Samsung's design.

I'd actually like the notch if the ears were blacked out since they could display status icons at all times (of course not when viewing movies). But to have the notch obstruct the view with full screen photos and movies makes no sense. Very bizzare choice by Apple. My guess is Ive was all pissy because if the ears were blacked out for fullscreen video/photo then the display area wouldn't be centered, thus ruining his "artistry."
