Why would any developer ever, want part of it's application covered? This isn't a choice thing, it's a bad design.
I get the impression from your posts here that it wouldn't matter what Apple had done, you'd be ragging on it. So good luck to you with whatever you do.

One major problem though, it doesn't run iOS...
I agree, which is why I have an iPhone. It isn't perfect—none of them have been—but since when did people start expecting anything to be perfect? The sacrifice for having the front cameras is the notch. Maybe they'll find a way around it down the road, although I'm not sure what that would be.

This phone and pricing is a joke, My 2 year old Samsung Galaxy 6s Edge Plus is a nicer looking flagship than this.

Apple is just so lazy at this point. Recycling the same phones year after year, then putting a premium price on them. But until the Kool-Aid drinking Apple sheep stop buying them, and say enough is enough, Apple will continue not to innovate.

Truly shocking.

Shocking to whom? What you don't realise is that millions of people buy these devices and millions of these people are rich. Why would you not buy one? Why would you not buy one if you could and deduct taxes? It's not really that hard to get one if you can get an iphone in the first place. There is always a way but don't ever fall into the trap of thinking this is a phone, it's not.. the name is there, it's familiar, it's very clever but it's completely not a phone.

Truly shocking? Don't make me laugh, you are making yourself look naive is all.

Anyone do the following?

1) Turn on bluetooth and Location Services to see how it changes the status bar.
2) Play a video.

I don't know, maybe all the leaks spoiled it for me. But other than the gorgeous new design, I don't see anything here that's truly "revolutionary." That justifies spending almost $1,400. I say $1,400 because I'm assuming the 256 GB model will be $1,100 plus $250 for AppleCare and taxes. And the iPhone 8 looks exactly the same as the 7. Kind of disappointed in the iPhone line up.
Jeez the iphone 8 is not exactly the same as the iphone 7 .. first of all it is glass design .. it allows wireless charging, faster GPU (A11 chip) .. better sensor for camera, OIS for camera 4K at 60fps and 240fps at 1080p to name a view!!

Trying to resist but some plus points for me:

- Will be able to unlock with a wet face I presume unlike when my hands are wet and my fingerprint fails to unlock the phone.

- No white bezel on the white X

- I'd quite like to drop back down from a 'plus' as my 7+ doesn't fit in some of my favourite clutch bags or pockets very well.

It's going to be either a X or remain with my 7+ for now.

I'm waiting for the S model. I hear it will finally have the mini nuke reactor battery! Just think, no more wireless charging! No charging ever! Well, unless you plan on living 10K plus years! I can't wait!!

I am surprised a lot of the same features and design between 8 and X.

Probably did not want to risk everything on X with the price so high. If they just did X at new price with no 8cod have been trouble.

The Fanboyism here is garishly disturbing. The FACE ID failed in the demo and yet everyone is applauding it.

The Face ID didn't fail; the first phone had somehow gotten rebooted, which put it into the password lock mode. This is the same behavior that happens on Touch ID phones.

But at least they go where the "puck is going to be" with visionary new computers like the Mac mini from 2014 that they sell, which is basically the only affordable product from Apple (but the value is still about as bad as the new iPhone X given the antique hardware ...).

This will not be easy to use in the car while driving at all. Nobody is even mentioning that.
Maybe because you shouldn't be playing around with your phone while driving

Why can I not say it's bad design. I love the phone with every other aspect. But there's a few points to consider here:

1. This is it the anniversary phone the 10? Somehow other manufactures were able to get rid of notches but Apple couldnt?
2. The phone starts at a 1000 dollars, is it weird to expect the best?
3. This isn't a "minor flaw" to brush off, it has implications with apps and their interactions. As mentioned previously. Buttons and swipe onto screen functionality will have to be modified to take the notch into account.

I nearly had a head on collision fiddling with my phone while driving. Yeah, it was utterly stupid and reckless of me. Never again. I scared myself and vowed to never ever do that again. If it's that urgent then find a safe place to pull over.

He pointed at the guy’s the face and the phone unlocked. Security nightmare!!!
How is this any more of a "security nightmare" than someone snatching your current iPhone out of your hands after you've unlocked it? They still can't disable the security settings without your password, and the phone will lock itself at some point and then they're back to square one. I don't see how this is an issue.

Well if you look at the keynote again it really didn’t fail - it just prompt Craig to use his code to activate FaceID - just as you are required to do with touchid at reboot

Instead of complaining just go and see one in person like I am going to do. I have always done that before I bought a iPhone. Photos can't really predict how it will feel and work in real life. Remember that TV makes people look fat or ugly...

Nice phone and all but, once again, Apple is simply playing catch-up to the rest of the industry. They haven't skated where the puck is going in years. And yeah, that notch is terrible.

So... You don't think AR is in Apple's future? Or augmented camera systems (shallow DOF, sculpted lighting, etc via software), facial recognition via 3D multipoint mapping, wide gamut displays, etc, etc?
