If I am feeling like braving the lines on Nov 3, would I be able to cancel the pre-order yet still have my purchase be part of the IUP?

this happened to me with the 7+.

Wait in line, get a phone in hand and then while you're at the checkout counter, cancel your pre-order. All the while, do not let the new phone out of your hands.

Once the order is cancelled, you will be able to order the phone in hand as part of the IUP.

Firstly thanks for the pointer to CPW (carphone warehouse). I managed to put two orders in, got email stating order is being processed, so fingers crossed they havent just forgotten to update their website as sold out :/

In return here are some tips:

1) Go via topcashback. They are currently offering £20 cashback on Sim Free purchases (including iPhone X) from CPW.

2) Order for delivery, as you have 14 days to return. CPW don't allow returns for store purchases :/

3) Unfortunately SIM FREE only means the phone is not locked to any network on arrival. CPW purchased iPhones have historically locked to the network of the first SIM you insert in them. As an example see this thread:

https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Support/unlock-Iphone-7-from-carphone-warehouse/td-p/19519822

Fortunately my network (Vodafone) will unlock for free. But if yours doesn't you may want to consider the Three workaround discussed on that thread (although the last post suggests three refused him/her because the SIM and phone weren't purchased together).

4) For future reference, SIM Free only means the phone is not locked upon receiving it. Unlocked means it is permanently Unlocked. The confusion arises because the terms are used interchangeably and usually such phones are actually Unlocked rather then SIM Free. But iPhones bought from CPW and some other suppliers are a rare instance where the phone is actually SIM Free rather then unlocked.

Hope thats helps and thanks again for the pointer to CPW, fingers crossed order goes through for launch day delivery :)
I went to 2 CPW and I was told that sim free means unlocked and that the phones are identical to Apple. (apparently that policy changed in june)
Also, if its sim free you are allowed to bring it back to the store but I will double check that again in my local store just to be on the safe side :)
Thanks though

They will price match. They have for me in the past on Various watches and phones.

I have NO idea what possesses them to pull this nonsense. They charged 100 bucks more for the iPhone 8/8 Plus...now this phone. Little off topic, they started charging 100 bucks more just last week for a drone I bought back in March! And for that drone I got them to price match it what I saw on Amazon for $50 bucks less!

Those who choose to purchase from them, get them to PRICE MATCH! Even with an iPhone 7 Leather case Walmart was selling for 25 bucks last month, I got Best Buy to match that! It really does pay to do the research on other sites for the best deal, save that link...text it to your own phone. Many of us here are NOT stupid and know darn well when we see the X - or the 8/9+ being sold for $100 more is a joke! BB knows it.

I always see something I want NOW..theres a BB down the street. I find it cheaper on other sites..I get this store to match it..their gouging it out of hand. Check Amazon (items SOLD by Amazon, not 3rd party vendors on the site) they will price match that also. Simply put, I cannot stress it enough...do not pay more to Best Buy more than you should! Some of the items I think they gouged up now - because they will drop it when Black Fri, Holiday Season kicks in..it makes it look like a "sale." (real slick move!) Big Box stores know they are in big big trouble.

Oh, another tip..I have one of those BB Rewards cards. Use it, then review ever darn purchase you make that shows up on your account. You'll get $5-10 gift cards in your email. I needed to review one more item to land a $5 off coupon...so I reviews a Twix bar I bought near the register. (LOL) Whatever, it worked!

Anyway, vent over.. :)

"5-6 weeks"

It isn't exactly the "delayed well into 2018" that some people feared. Great!

Its not as bad as it might have been - but was it delayed well into 2018, or was it that it would be well into 2018 by the time you could get one delivered in the normal few days?

For those who got the message (and subsequent email) about having to wait to connect to carrier systems, sorry to say you should've kept trying the order process from scratch. That's what I did, and eventually I was able to place an order for local pickup on 11/3. Email confirmation time stamped at 3:14am EST.

If you ordered by a carrier, don't take their word that you'll get it on launch day.

Did that with Vodafone UK last year - they waited UNTIL launch day to email saying they didn't have stock. Got one through apple this time for delivery on 3rd!

64GB Space Grey - was going to go for the 256GB but then checked my current (128GB) 7 - I'm only using 14GB as I stream everything now. Kinda ironic now that the base models have higher storage, I'm actually using less storage than I used to!
[doublepost=1509113583][/doublepost]How do I get my usage down? It seems my apps are taking up most of my storage. I am using 39 of my 128

I was able to get through and get two back to back.
A silver for myself, a grey for my wife and picked up a couple cases. She likes that new deep purple leather and I grabbed the white silicone and (RED) leather.

Preach!

I got 5 of them total through the 4 IUPs in my family and one unlocked through Verizon. All getting delivered 11/3. No one in my family wants a X so I'm going to sell them and pay for the one i won't be selling plus accessories. Don't hate @Ankaa because we're all rotten lol.

Question: I got 2, 256g X’s. One that I paid for, and the other was my IUP reservation. The one I paid for is delivering on 11/3. The IUP phone is 11/17. Will I be able to swap phones on my IUP? In other words when I get the first device on 11/3 can I tell Apple I want that to be the device that is tied to the loan. Not a big deal, really, just don’t know if that’s possible.

So funny. How a company has gotten people so excited, desperate, and begging to give them $1200-1500. All for privilege of buying their product.

Same here. Kept retrying and finally got a carrier connection. About the same time...3:15 ET.

Shipping times for VZ 256GB space grey were 2-3 weeks...but pickup Nov. 3rd was available.

Sprint was ridiculous. First some genius scheduled routine maintenance for 3am ET! Yep, the same time the X went live for pre-order! No one realized that conflict? Seriously? So the site was unavailable due to maintenance until just after 4am ET, at which time it promptly fell apart. The site crawled, hung and kept going unavailable, people kept getting kicked back in line during the ordering process, 2-factor authentication failed for many, and a lot of people got their orders cancelled because they didn't "process" correctly. Finally around 5:15am the site started working again. It was insane. Sprint's Twitter accounts blew up with angry customers.

I had promised my wife we would get her a new phone, she still has an iPhone 5, but we looked at the price and decided last night it just wasn’t worth that much to us. Since it has a lot of untried features and only a 90 day support/1year hardware warranty you are really gambling if you don’t buy Apple Care or something similar, and that pushes the phone price close to $1500.00

Not sure what, if anything, we will decide to get. Probably will wait until early next year and reevaluate.
Get SE. It's as cheap as $150 when on sale.

Ordered at 3:02am EDT. All seemed well. Woke up at 6:30am to an email from Apple saying my credit card was declined. Turns out it was flagged as fraud. I tried calling them earlier in the day to let them know, but it was such a long wait time I hung up and figured it would be okay.

Luckily by 7am I was able to get it straightened out and all seems well in the world! Still expecting it for November 3rd!

256GB Space Grey here thee come!

Just goes to show, Apple is in business to make money. Pre-orders on a potentially hot item should be 1/person if they wanted the most customers to benefit. Scalpers take a risk too. Personally, would you buy a phone anyplace but an authorized retailer? I wouldn’t but I’m sure plenty of people would.

I wouldn’t be shocked if that Nov 10-17 date slips too. Let’s put it this way... I ordered (not pre-ordered) a SE for my wife 2 weeks ago. It’s due to be shipped on the 2nd. That’s 3 weeks for a phone that’s in nowhere near as high demand. I hope you guys see them this year.

Well, I had 3 devices refreshing constantly on 2 different networks and I still couldn’t get nov 3rd delivery so I’m pretty pissed off. I bet scalpers get $1500+ easily.
