We are coming up to christmas time, that one day whenever everyone feels they have to give one particularly special gift. The iphone x may be this years tickle-me-elmo. We've been led to believe it'll be hard for apple to fulfill orders for weeks or maybe months, so getting one sooner, even if you pay more, is on some peoples' agenda.

I don't particular agree with the overcommercialization of holidays in general, but I think xmas is a factor here too.

you'd have to tickle more than just my elmo to get an iphone X as a christmas present

This year the website came up before the app for me.
ditto! I was up waiting and web-site came up 3:08, then the app 3:10. I kept hitting refresh. So, Apple didn't come up at 12:01 pacific time. Apple has NEVER been up on time, period. !t's annoying, and yet lead-times started slipping 2-3 weeks the moment I had access.

Well, yeah...but if it's obvious that demand surpasses supply, I really think pre-order options per person should be limited. It's done elsewhere. And I encourage every company to vigorously try to work against the black markt, it's for example done with concert tickets...

But, well, I still don't get how people can get so crazy over a phone that they're almost willing to sell their grandma for it. Seriously, people need to relax and maybe check their priorities. If people can't even wait a few weeks and MUST have it on day one, they seriously have issues.

Yes preorder options are indeed limited per person. Every Apple ID can only order 2 units. But of course there’s loopholes for every system. You can simply create more Apple IDs and order more.

But then again, those buyers willing to fork out >100% premium over the retail price to be the first to own the X isn’t your typical buyers. Their fat wallets checked their priorities for them already. So I don’t think they have any issues. Their only issue is being too d*** rich and too d*** lazy or stupid to wake up early and do the preorders themselves. Lol

How is it that so many people can afford the $1800 256gb iPhone X?
You guys must be earning around $200K a year.
Or are you doing what a lot of YouTubers are doing and asking subscribers for money/donations to fund their purchase of the iPhone X?

Man, I wish I had the money to buy the 256gb iPhone X. :(
Maybe I need to set up a YouTube account and get subscribers to fund me or set up a GoFundMe page....

I do some photography work on the side, a couple hours of IT consulting a month, and tuck that away for toys; you'd be surprised how quickly that adds up if you are willing to be patient and have specific spending goals in mind...

I mean to be fair, no one probably wants one on tmobile. lol. But the big 2, im surprised they still had them
My T-Mobile experience has been wonderful. Great news for me if "no one wants one on tmobile" but I don't think that is actually true. T-Mobile is growing its subscribers by quite a bit.

6 of the 11 stores near me still have 256 GB black available for pickup on launch day. Another 2 still have 256 GB available in silver.

As someone holding onto $AAPL, this is incredibly bad. Demand is so low it's looking like you'll be able to just walk into a store to get a phone, no preorder or queueing necessary, on launch day.
LOL, I'm in SoCal where there are many stores around me and there is no pick up availability anywhere and shipping estimates are 5-6 weeks out after 6 hours of pre-orders being live, which they have been since 12:30. What a total flop this phone is.

Everyone hates scalpers, but its the height of hypocrisy to pull the morality card.

It's a £1k luxury item put together by people that earn peanuts in a country where vast swathes of the population live at or below the poverty line (and I mean real you might die from lack of food/water/shelter/the ***** poverty).

So I wonder, if there was a immorality pyramid, who would sit at the top:

1) The guy that scalps a few iPhones to get ahead in the game.
2) Everyone thats ahead in the game simply by virtue of geography of birth and don't give a second thought to dropping £1k on said phone, then moan guy (1) is an immoral **** because they have to wait a few weeks.

Those that live in glass houses should be wary of throwing their old iPhone in moral outrage :D

Preach!

I got 5 of them total through the 4 IUPs in my family and one unlocked through Verizon. All getting delivered 11/3. No one in my family wants a X so I'm going to sell them and pay for the one i won't be selling plus accessories. Don't hate @Ankaa because we're all rotten lol.

Mine delivers Nov third, with the Apple upgrading program from a 7 plus. No issues this time since I used the preapproved method.

seems I was not able to just order an 'unlocked' one. I could only proceed by 'verifying' an existing account with one of the big 4 carriers, which I don't have. Was there any possible way of just ... buying an unlocked iPhone X without being beholden to the major carriers, and perhaps I just missed it?
Usually the unlocked version is offered by Apple sometime after the launch. Maybe a few months at most.

Apple Store shows a straight "Currently unavailable" when I look now. No shipping window and Buy button is greyed out.

Im not sure its due to popularity and more so because they are cheaper and will give stuff away that no other carriers will. There is a reason VZ and ATT wont give the same discounts and perks TMobile will. Because they dont need the business as bad. Sprint is the same deal. I have been with all the carriers and I could not even be bribed with free X's on all my lines to take Sprint or Tmobile back.

Managed to get 2 for the 3rd.. one for each hand!

Are they likely to sell for that much over retail?
Can’t imagine it’s worth it or is it?

Man my friend paid $5k for two phones with AppleCare, shipping in 5 weeks. Crazy times.
How does that work out? Should only be maybe $3k tops if he bought from a store and not a poacher. Some people have more money than brains I think. I had a hard enough time paying the $1149 for mine.

Snagged a day one phone! I noticed that it offered a Nov 3 phone for pickup at my local store, but the deliver to the house option wanted two extra weeks. This all in the first few minutes of sale. Also, I was on the upgrade subscription plan, and did the prepare in advance thing.

I used to spend about $10 a week having a Red Bull at lunch (Tropical flavor, tastes like vacation and is very nice on the weekends and some weekdays with a little vodka). However, a diagnosis of high blood pressure gave me reason to stop spending that money. The iPhone X runs about $10/week on the ATT next plan so now that saved money has a new home, it's almost like it's free.

If you break it down by week, it makes the cost much more palatable. A middle class salary can more often than not afford $10 a week. I know from experience...

Had a weird issue pre-ordering through ATT, my current (6plus) phone didn't show as eligible for upgrade as it did earlier in the day. I went to Apple, got right through, and was about to hit purchase on a 2-3 week wait time and the ATT page refreshed and my phone was eligible. Luckily, the delivery for that purchase is 11/3 so I backed out of the Apple page. I started at 8 minutes in the ATT queue that started on time, but it was another 10-20 minutes (felt like forever) until I was able to get the purchase finished. Phew. --256G Black.

Of course, I looked at my clock at 11:45PM. Closed my eyes and it was suddenly 4:30AM.

I was able to order the phone with a delivery date of December 1st. Well, I guess I don’t mind waiting a whole month... better than waiting until January / February just for an upgrade
