They should have just stuck with the 8/8+ this year, and then hold onto the design of the X for next year. That would have given them more than enough time to work out kinks.

Can you imagine? People would LOSE their shhh if Apple released the "4th generation" of the iPhone 6. They absolutely had to unveil something new this year even if it meant rushing it and only in small supply at first.

If airpods were any indication of the crazy that faces the iPhone X, we're going to see the Samsung S9 around the time some people get their preorders. It's going to be hectic.

STAAAAAHP you're giving me anxiety. I have this horrible feeling that on 10.27, when my preorder goes though, I'm gonna see a ship date of December or January and I'm not ready for that.

I just hope the SE sees a refresh in March/April. I’m done with any size/model but the SE. It has everything I want/need in a phone, it’s the smallest, it’s the most affordable. I used to be a latest and greatest guy. Lately, I’ve been discovering that all of my most used features (safari, mail, Apple Pay, photos) are great on all phones across he board

The SE refresh would have made MOST sense as the X, a larger screen smaller phone that harks back to the original, could even be made a little thicker and rounder like the 3/3G to accommodate the tech (even flush cameras) since the smaller dimensions made that phone great in-hand. Even the new unreachable-without-shuffling pull-down control centre from the X would work.

I think most would happily pay a premium price for that product regardless of the size (in-fact because of it), I know I would. I think Apple are just following and missing where they could be leading again.

What does Ming Chi Kuo say? He's pretty much the only one I trust when it comes to supply chain.

Seriously, it seems like he is the one directly talking to TC.

Apple saw what worked with Nintendo's NES Classic and Switch. I'm sure they are taking a page form them. Set a limit on what they want to sell and then artificially create a shortage on the device so it can sell like hot cakes.

I dont think its true. They make millions of device before pre-order starts. It takes time. Calculate if they want to build 50 million iohones for pre order, they will have to start several months in advance. which means, they would need to have a ready and final prototype of iphone X2 before they release iphone X. i dont think thats feasable. And even if they can build 50 million, its a risk if suddenly they discover some major hardware flaw in the first week.

Nah... scalpers don't place business orders with Apple. I have friends whose friends get deep discounts with Apple for business orders, and they will sometimes snag a few extras for their friends to buy at discount from them. I don't know anyone who does that who makes a profit off the merchandise.

I had an option to get the Series 0 Apple Watch via such means, but it would have meant waiting an extra month or so for them to get their order fulfilled, and I really wanted it at launch, so I just paid for it and placed my own order online with Apple.
Yep.

My friend’s wife has a good connect with an Apple regional director/manager here in Florida. He allows her to place a discount order with him about once a year. He will give her a 25-35% discount on the whole order.

I’m gonna end up looking at a new decked out iMac or an iMac Pro to replace my 2012 iMac with the next order she places.

Some folks have even started placing orders in order to practice for the big day. lol
Lmao. I was actually just on the Apple and ATT site placing an order for an 8 Plus just to make sure my trade in upgrade and information is correct.

I elected to deliver my 7Plus to Ohio since I was visiting from a Florida during my delivery period. Just had to be sure I switched my ATT billing address back to a Florida.

I still might get the 8Plus since I have 2 iPhone lines and the X is gonna be a tough one to get n time from what is being reported.

They haven't even STARTED production yet?! This can't be real, I thought they typically started production like months in advance?!

hahaa -- Im sure they already started working on iPhone SE OLED 4" full bezel free phone <3

This was the example I used the other day as well. The AirPods were announced in September 2016, but delayed until December 2016. When They did lunch, they literally were back ordered 6 to 8 weeks within an hour And never fully recuperated with available stock. The AirPods are still showing a two week delivery status.

So, I made up my mind. I'm going with an 8 plus. This is just insane! Further delays?? The average customer, even pre-ordering at midnight will be waiting until february to get their iPhone x. This is such a fail for Apple.

Customers will just be getting their iPhone x's when Apple is announcing iOS 12. Starting this late and having the demand as large as this for iPhone x, they'll be starting production for iPhone 11 before customers get their iPhone x.

Patience isn't easy....

Is a complete newcomer better in supply chain than Apple? (Essential)
No. Essential Phone doesn't use OLED, which is one of the main constraining factors for iPhone X. Also, how many phones are Essential going to ship? Most likely not very many at all.

I'm glad Apple has largely moved away from in-store purchases to online pre-orders.

If everyone had to line up outside a store, I'd be worried that physical violence might break out as people scramble to get an iPhone X.

I wouldn’t want fights either. But I kind of miss the lines you would see on tv to preorder. It was fun to watch ppl around the country lining up to get their hands on the phone. Although I doubt it was much fun for those ppl working the stores lol.

If you can put up with android malware and selling yourself for free

Honestly, screw this. Ten years of Apple phones, and now I am finally ready to look elsewhere. More attractive hardware at a much more reasonable price available right now in every carrier store across the country without all of the 'there may be one left in the back...' silliness kind of does it for me.

is Timmy paying people to over hype the iPhone X now? I find it quite hard to believe that production would begin or start in the middle of October, especially given a good amount of devices they had at the announcement for people to touch and hold. And surely it would make no sense to start production as early as the middle of October and then take pre-orders around the same time and tell people that they can expect delivery on November 3rd. That would be a flat out LIE if this was the case as SOMEONE will have to show or have some kind of proof that an iPhone X was delivered to them on that date, otherwise that whole Delivery by November 3rd is just a huge lie as stated.

This article is absolute bull****
Production started weeks ago.
Several million units are already packaged.
Anyone who works in high volume manufacturing knows this is hysteria.
Phone will be freely available for the holiday season.

It's quite interesting. There is NO WAY I'm buying an iPhone 8 with the X available. Also, there's NO WAY I'm buying an X as it has too much different that is unproven for the general masses. So I guess I will wait for the iPhone 9 or Xs or what ever they call it after its shake down cruise.

I will say this. There is NO WAY Jobs would've allowed a split launch like this. I know some will cry, "Oh but remember his Macintosh team running rogue?" This is not even remotely the same thing. Now, if he was here, he'd be 100% in charge. No need to run rogue. This split will hurt the brand or at the least reveal confusion at Apple HQ.

If you really think about it, Apple advisedly launched X and 8 together and bumped the prise of the X, knowing everyone will want to buy it (or at least enough people), so made it even harder to get.. I really hope they'll fail miserably at the supplying this **** so people will come to their senses!

read the top posts in the macrumors link.

this type of analyst reports aside...

something i think you’ll see happen if there truly are problems at the magnitude you’re being told (ie— 10k/day or yet to begin production)...

Apple will officially delay the release.

i highly (highly!) doubt Apple would continue with the nov3 launch while having no phones.. or only a handful of phones.

stop and think this for a minute.. thousands of people camped out at nyc apple stores for days (week for a few).. excitement building.. people up in the wee hours to pre order.. etc..

doors open to Soho store and everyone is just turned away.. “sorry, we haven’t started making the phones yet”
or
“sorry, we only have 5 phones at this location”

not gonna happen.

that is the disaster scenario you seem to think is real but seriously, it will not happen like that.

again, apple will officially delay launch (well, they wouldn’t of announced a launch date if there were problems like you think but let’s pretend they made that mistake).. there will be no Nov3 launch day if the reports are true

That will not happen. If, and I am talking about if here, Apple should decide to push back the release of the iPhone X the disaster would be guaranteed. People not reading macrumors and all those sites, are already annoyed that they can't already get the new shiny iPhone they read about.

I would say you would be right, if they said that they'll launch it in "late October" without a specific date. But Apple is promoting the phone on all channels with pre-order date 27.10. and availabilty 03.11.
They only give out concrete dates when they are 100% sure that they can commit to it.
That is why we never got an official release date of the AirPods for example. They couldn't commit to one date so they just gave us a time span. But they can't do that with an iPhone. Especially such an important iPhone like the X.

B/c it would've taken away from iPhone 8 sales. Apple wanted a staggered release, instead of pushing everything out at once. It would be like Samsung releasing the S8+ and Note 8 at the same time. Or Sony releasing the PS4 and PS4 Pro at the same time. Like I said before, every year these production horror stories appear online and every year I still get my phone on or around launch day. Remember the elusive gold 5S that was supposed to be backordered until January of 2014? I got mine a few days after the launch day. Remember the 6 Plus that was supposedly having production problems? Got my phone on launch day. The Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus that wasnt gonna be readily available until weeks and weeks and weeks after the holidays? Got my phone a week after launch day.

My point? This guy is full of crap. You honestly think Apple would wait mere weeks from arguably the biggest smartphone launch in history, to start producing iPhone Ten's? This is Apple aka the most valuable and powerful brand in the world. This isn't Little Susie's summer lemonade stand. No way in hell would Apple have set a release date if they didn't already have an idea of iPhone stock and a plan to get iPhones shipped out. Everything will work out. Folks just need to calm down

Next year, the production horror stories will continue. This is almost like a tradition, heading into preorder time.

We will have to agree to disagree. I don’t buy it for a moment that they wouldn’t have put the X for sale at the earliest opportunity. Whilst I don’t disagree with your example re PS4 and the Galaxy and Note products, but there is a key difference, those launches are at least 6 months apart (always) and in the case of PS4 Pro, 2 years. In Apple’s case...4-5 weeks! Also remember Samsung never talk about their “other” phone at their keynotes, they are always seperate events. Apple chose to do them together, even though in recent times they had a seperate one for say the SE. It might be that there are no issues and that different order dates are for exactly the reason you suggest, personally I don’t think it is the case.

I agree there is no way that they haven’t been manufacturing the X for a while now, but they need to get up to 5-6 hundred thousand units a day to meet typical iPhone volumes. I suggest they are no where near that. I struggle to understand why that would be, because there is nothing specifically “novel” in the X that hasn’t or doesn’t exist in numerous other flagships. Only really the CPU in exclusive to the X and Apple are on point for that. Conjecture on my part, but I think they started with TouchID under a a special oled screen and it didn’t work out and they had to revert to another solution late in the day. I can’t believe they have been working for “years” on the X in the proposed incarnation, if they have, then if they don’t have the capacity then they have failed badly.

Ooohh, then launch a preview version of the Notch.
I simply can't wait anymore. So cute...
