I have some "sharp" edges on my SG.

However screen is perfect and rest of the phone is ok so no way I am going to return this.

Here is my story:

1. I bought iPhone X AT&T unlocked outright (Perfection as far as build quality).
2. In two days after the purchase iPhone X Sim Free is available.
3. I exchange my iPhone X AT&T Unlocked to iPhone X Sim Free (to get the most out of my spent $999 + tax + AppleCare)
4. After coming home and enabling reachability feature (finger (thumb) needs to be sliding down on the bottom edge of the screen) and I feel something is sharp in the bottom edge of the screen. After looking closer I notice the band that is in between glass and stainless steel is slightly proud and NOT completely flush causing sharp edge to appear. Looking even closer I see dust and particle from thumb finger tip are being trapped there. I was blown away from disappointment.
5. I go to local Apple store and explain my 1 day old iPhone X Sim Free problem and request exchange for a new iPhone X Sim Free. After exchange I opened the box and SAME defect is found! I slide my thumb on the bottom edge of the screen and RIGHT AWAY some dust and dirt being trapped in this imperfect build edge. I simply was stunned. I quickly examined ALL display models of iPhone X they had on the tables and none had sharp bottom edge but rather perfectly smooth. This was VERY obvious that even Apple employee could not say ANYTHING.
6. I returned second iPhone X Sim Free right at the spot.
Please see attached two pictures for reference as far as dust trapped and some notes on the photos.

I could likely accept a somewhat sharp of an edge on an iPhone for a perfect display. Displays sometimes can be difficult to come across a good one that has evenness and uniformity.

Silver 64GB and some sharp edges in the corners. they are very small, you can only feel them with your nails, so i dont care :p no other problems with my X. great battery, great screen, great sound.

My iPhone X had rough/sharp edges on the back, too. I ordered a new one which arrived today: Edges are very smooth. Even the volume buttons etc are smoother on this one. Incredible how nice this phone feels compared to the previous one (I don’t use a case).

Looks like the first iPhone X was build in a rush...

Hate this gap on my brand new X. Look at closer to the VERGE photo, same defect catches the dust.. bad for 1100Euros phone

Wrong, you can’t tell unless you feel
The phone. I’ve been to the Apple store many times and I’ve seen iPhones where you can see the insides yet smooth edges, it’s more so about how the machine finished the edges.

it is plastic middle frame, between glass and metal frame, this midle frame has not edges finish by machine

eh, Ive seen both conditions. its usually the metal frame that causes the sharp feeling, even the apple guy verified it at the store. The plastic part shouldn't be giving you a rough feeling, Ive seen some models where it protrudes but when it does it feels soft like a little bump.

Also, that photo you posted is deceiving, If you look at where the light is reflecting its directly at the bottom, this makes it look as if the rubber is more protruded but if you look at it uniformily you will notice it literally looks even all the way around.

The light reflecting on the metal rim makes it look like its faulty.

I speak from my own experience, as we first picked up the phone, felt the rough edge on the plastic frame. The machining of the steel frame is absolutely fine for my piece. Another negative is the settling of dirt between the glass and the plastic frame.

Well, I can't see or feel your device so im not at liberty to say whether you are wrong or right, Ive had 6 iPhone X replacements and for me its usually the metal edge, however with millions sold there is a possibility that the plastic may be faulty as well.

Out of my 5 replacements one had this condition and it's so bizarre how Phones like that made it out of production.

It's annoying in the sense of a phone that's supposed to be so greatly made has build quality issues like that

5 replacements? What for?

This is such a sloppy release for a great (And expensive) phone. Ughhh

I have had more than I care to admit due to other issues and have definitely had some that exhibit this worse than others. The space grey one for whatever reason is the smoothest with no sharp edges at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love my X, but can't help but feel the sharp edges where the stainless steel band joins the front and back glass. I didn't feel this on my Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus. It was totally smooth all around. For reference, I have the silver. Just hope I don't have a defective unit.
[doublepost=1513041738][/doublepost]just picked up my silver 256 x. mine is terrible, it catches my beard and side burns. i actually thought mine was splitting apart. sorry apple, you can at least get the edges of glass and metal to meet like my old 7. it’s going back tomorrow.

same thing with my sim-free version in silver 256GB. Curious if you ever found a sim-free version without the sharp edges.

This is such a sloppy release for a great (And expensive) phone. Ughhh

1st- After 3 weeks of use just died out of nowhere, dead with the black screen of death and Apple was never able to get it to power back on. Side note: the phone also had a slight pop/creak when certain parts of the screen were pressed.

2nd- Phone wouldn't connect to my cars blue tooth, no matter what we did. Took it to Mercedes and the tech who had an iPhone X connected his phone just fine and we were never able to pin point the problem.

3rd- One side of the phone had those sharp edges down the whole body of the phone and when looked at closer almost looked as if the screen was separating from the phone frame.

4th- Phone had extreme signal problems with LTE where at certain times I would grab the phone and have no signal. Happened at least 3 times in one day, and after the first hard re-set the phone would have issues connecting to WiFi. Side note: same issue as the first phone where certain areas of the screen would pop and creak.

5th and current- lol...Hopefully my daily driver until the iPhone X Plus is released.

I'm an Apple fan, not a fan boy, but a fan of the company and their products. I believe a company can charge a premium as long as they are giving you back a premium product that is very well built in return. With this release after reading the countless threads and posts about some of the phones problems makes me just say...If Steve Jobs we're alive today things would be very different.

Bought a silver one on launch day (which I returned later): smooth. Just got a new one today (also silver; both Verizon phones FWIW) and it’s super sharp. I will not be able to keep this knowing how smooth it CAN feel and how much this things costs…

GAH :(

My silver feels particularly rough around the sim port, as well as the bottom holes. In comparison the 7 jet black is so smooth.
Also, the silver back under bedroom 3000k light looks dirty.

Just got back from Apple having taken my one day old Iphone X back to them.
The problem I had is with the screen on the left side of the device being rough and not finished smooth lik the other side.
As soon as they looked at it they agreed that it was not right and swapped it there and then.
I got an off the shelf brand new replacement as would be expected, and I’m happy to say that this one is perfect.
Space Grey 64gb

I just noticed the phone pulls my hair while on a call. This has to be the stupidest design choice ever! Am I the only one having this happening?

These pictures are exactly it for me. Some sides of the lips are smooth, some are raised enough and separated from the metal enough to feel sharp.

This has been a thing ever since the 6 design and I was really rooting for the X to find a way to have perfectly smooth lips, but alas.
