If Apple is not going to mind the aesthetic look of the cameras on the back of the phone... I wish they would at least make it easier to hold. I naturally block the lens with my left hand every time I go to shoot landscape mode.

I think that corner with the multi-lens needs to be more subtle. Almost the point where it's almost visually imperceptible for this to look good.

Am I the only one who wants Apple to get rid of mute switches on the phones? Mute toggle in control center is enough for me, just like on iPads. One less button to break too.

Wouldn't that be expensive?

I don't get why this design is so controversial. The camera implications are huge. 3 lenses allows for such a huge improvement on camera technology. It's going to start a as-good-as DSLR era for phone camera technology.

If 3 cameras are better than two, why not go ahead and put 4 on the phone?

As long as the cameras can take freakin medium to low light pictures I'm happy, it's amazing how far behind Apple has fallen in this regard. I'm also a bit weary of the mute button, as this is one of my absolute most favorite features on Apple phones. I really hope they don't ruin it just to feel like they made it "new", sometimes leaving things alone is the best thing.

What's the point of the mute switch? Can't that be done in software? They should just get rid of it. Next casualty after the headphone jack.
I’m inclined to strongly disagree. I use the mute switch daily. Never having to even look at the iPhone to use it makes it a superb piece of design. I hope this new version - should it prove to be accurate - is as convenient as the current one.

the back is ridiculous looking........ Another year with that notch............couldnt even try to shrink it......Smh

What do you want? Them to design a plastic screened phone that'll be released to the tech press and then get shelved because it breaks in two days?

I’d like them to actually give the phone a design update, maybe an iPad Pro like design. I have no idea why you have brought the Samsung galaxy fold in to this, I never mentioned anything about Apple releasing a foldable phone

For one, you can jus feel the switch and know your phone is silent or not. For second, you don't even need to unlock the phone to mute it. Seriously, this is one of the strong things on the iPhone in my eyes.

For me the 5g is going to depend on what is done with data plans. I have no interest in 5g if data plan price goes up or is tiered in some way.

This is really what it comes down to. I still can’t upgrade to an “unlimited” plan without spending a lot more for “unlimited plus” or getting deprioritized all the time with the lowest “unlimited” tier, so I’m stuck with my 4GB plan which is still > $70 per month.

At least they're trying? If they weren't, then nothing would ever move forward.

I get it. There are a portion of smartphone users that are bored with their rectangles of glass. They’ll soon be wishing for those rectangles of glass to return when they’ve spent $2000+ on a plastic screened phone that is, peeling, dented and/or completely black because something got behind the display through* the big gaps all over the device.

Hopefully they arrange the 3 cameras in a more pleasing way, like in a triangle (triforce!) or all in a row. Not just jumbled into a square area.

Because they're expensive. The camera module requires a lot of engineering and miniaturization. It's not like stacking legos.

Exactly. As the cost comes down, they WILL have 4 lenses...and it will probably go higher than 4 before we're done with iPhones.

As it stands now, we are still in early innings in the development of smartphone camera technology. All you have to do is compare to a high end DSLR to see we have a long way to go, and multiple lenses allow for telephoto, super wide angle, varying depth of field, letting in more light, stitching together of images, and other advancements that (partially) make up for the small physical size of the image sensor and glass.

It's not often I care that much about the aesthetics of a phone, but that does look pretty obnoxious on the back. Samsung's take on multiple cameras, at least IMHO, is much cleaner and "sleek" looking
