Many people will accidentally mute/unmute their iPhones by putting them in their pockets. The form of the old switch has a purpose.

I actually hope Apple is coming with a keep-it-basic-camera iPhone which omits the focus on the camera's and more on hardware.

I'm cool with the single (maybe dual) camera to take photos. I'm not looking to see every blade of grass...rather have a faster or more battery featured phone :/

Thicker..,. It needs to be fit the new camera system

On par, we'll now probably see a thinner one to 'fill the gap.'

Wouldn't that be expensive?

I don't get why this design is so controversial. The camera implications are huge. 3 lenses allows for such a huge improvement on camera technology. It's going to start a as-good-as DSLR era for phone camera technology.
While I’m not a fan of how this looks aesthetically I find it curious that there is little discussion around why the camera setup might be this way. It’s all just “ew that’s ugly what’s happening to Apple!!”. I’m guessing it wasn’t the industrial design team saying ooh let’s make a camera hump that looks like this but rather working around the constraints of the camera and hardware engineering teams.

Really, I don’t mean to pick on anyone in this thread, but the amount of comments are comical that others care about the back of the camera/iPhone. I can’t be the only one who doesn’t care what the back of the phone looks like, right? I mean, if this technology is promising enough where it would entice me to upgrade if the camera proves worthy of that, then by all means, I will. I just have never had an inclination to worry about what a smart phone looks like, as long as it meets my expectations in terms of (quality standards, technology and services), that’s all I could ask for.

[I also gather 99% of iPhone users are use a case as it is, concealing the back of the phone for the most part, so I see this is a non-issue. But I understand everyone has their opinions.]

Im not going any thicker or any heavier than this XS Max. This would would seal the deal for me.

I was really hoping they reduce the weight! I held a Samsung Galaxy S10+ recently and it felt fantastic. So sleek and light. I want to get the Max version for my next phone, but the heavy weight keeps me away.

Steel is adding to the weight, Samsung Galaxy S10 is made out of Aluminum.

Don't want larger battery ?
People complain about thinner phones, when Apple decides to make them thicker to add more battery people complain.

How can they possibly be sticking with the huge notch? I could cope with it when the X was released but it now looks ridiculous and is bugging me more by the day
Because the Face ID hardware still exists, iPhone is the only phone that has real working Face ID, all others have a fake Face ID.
So others don't need that much space on top for hardware.

This is a phone that using a case is needed. Maybe they might be able to technically use the close cluster of the cameras to an advantage such increasing low light and detail.

This looks like a horrible hole punching accident in R&D got green-lit lol

Sucks tho, I may be going back to a smaller phone and Apple makes a bigger one. I don't really need more than 1 camera and Apple adds a 3rd. They're building the exact opposite of what I want more and more lol, but I edit on FCPX so I'm boned.

Same design is fine, thicker is fine too, just do 2 things if it's made thicker:

1) put the cameras flush with the phone &
2) fill that space with batteries.

Both must be done if it's made thicker. BOTH.

Well this will be my next phone no matter what. I picked up my iPhone 7 Plus in 3/2017. It was the 1st time I didn’t buy the new iPhone day zero. It has served me well and is still fast enough but 3 years is enough.

Now I still don’t know if I will choose the XI or the XI Max/Plus. I really hate the Max name. I love the size of my Plus and the XS has less real estate despite the taller screen. However the Max has a huge footprint and may not fit in my front pocket where I have always put all of my phones going back to my 1st phone, the Nokia 6180, when I was a freshman in high school.

I want OLED and the triple lens with improved “bokeh.” I have no problem with the design. I prefer this solution to the 3 in a row solution on Android flagships.

I would also have liked a 5G modem but honestly it will be another 3-4 years before real 5G speeds are available in New York. AT&T struggles with LTE speeds in the city as well as congested neighborhoods like Williamsburg so a 5G modem wouldn’t change anything and by the time 5G is truly ready it will be time for a new phone anyway.

The iPhone 5 was the first LTE iPhone but LTE really started maturing by the iPhone 6S/7.

cool.. i'll buy one.

the stainless steel band on the X is sweet.. i'm glad this one will be keeping that.. actually, the iPhone X in general is sweet and i'm not over it after 2yrs.. i can go another 2 with similar design.

After a brief return to beautiful phones with the X, it seems ugly is back in a big way. That monstrous camera bump makes the iPhone 7's giant antenna lines look positively subtle by comparison. If ever there was a phone to hide in the biggest case possible, it's this one.

Seriously apple, stop adding cameras.

I like them. Just not that much. It doesn't add an incredible amount of value to the device, it adds an incredible amount of cost. I would prefer you add storage instead.

I'm really beginning to see the Xs as the best phone, but I still hate the camera bump.

Seems like they are going with the "add janky crap to it" style. Remember last time they did that?
