Wow... I'm actually kinda happy my browser was glitching on att.com and I went to order my watch through Best Buy in the meantime. I never would've guessed the shipping times for the watches would be slipping more than the phones. I'm upgrading from the Series 0 42mm space grey aluminum for a S4 silver aluminum 44mm. Got the phone too after panicking for 35 minutes trying to get the site to take my address.
The Watch was a more exciting update this year. It’s an “s” year for the iPhone (though the Max is new and I expect the R will sell well when it goes live).

I ordered the iPhone XS Max 512 Space Gray at approximately 3:05 AM EST and my estimated shipping date is between 10/5 and 10/12. Not cool.
If last year is any indication there will be stock at the Apple Store next week. I originally had a 2 week wait for the X but then wound up buying it at the store on launch day with only a 15 minute wait.

Sorry, You were right initially, it's an extra fee and it does not even itself out. Look at it from a calendar year perspective. Regardless of what they do next year, in 2018 you would have paid 13 payments. There is no scenario in which in 2019 you would only pay 11 payments, always 12. I've gotten up in the middle of the night every year since the 4s to have the new iPhone 1st day. I've been "that guy"in the office that shows everyone all the cool features in the new phone like an excited kid on Christmas morning. But, because of the timing of last year's phone, I have to pay them an extra fee this year just so I can market for them for free. Love their products and will buy a new phone through their upgrade program each year but they don't need charity from me. Will wait another month (and never get another phone on 1st day again?) and purchase then. No Christmas morning in the office this year.
Alternatively just sell the phone and buy the new one outright. You’ll likely get more than the trade-in value. You can pay off the old loan or just keep making the payments (the latter is what I would recommend since the loan is interest free).

No iPhone for me this year, going to stick with my X for now (first time since iPhone 4, I’ve not gotten the new phone). But I am upgrading my Series 1 to a Series 4.

I preordered through the iOS app a little late (12:35a PT, 2:35a CT) and chose the 44mm Space Gray Series 4 with Cellular. Shipping date already showed October 5-11 as my estimated shipping date or an in store pickup at my local store for September 21st. So, I chose in store pickup. We’ll see, fingers crossed.

Ordered an SS and Black SS 44 at 12:07 pacific and already slipped Septt 28-oct 2. Man they sold out fast.

Not slipping as crazy as I had thought. Could it be the prices? I think when I preordered my AW2 by this time it was telling me December.

Perfect example of negative spin. One commenter was surprised at quickness of the slips "at those prices" and you think the slips are not fast enough "at those prices". It's all about mindset. You think the prices are too high so you want to confirm that by building a case that pre-order delivery dates aren't slipping fast enough. Other do the same in reverse. They also think the prices are too high so they invent another theory to explain why pre-order delivery dates are slipping, namely the tired old "Apple is intentionally limiting supplies to make it look like demand is high."

Starting to look like Apple will have a monster hit on its hands.

How about this... I got my order in, in the very moment it was available. I got the email in the first 6 minutes, and it ALREADY slipped to Oct 5th - 12th. I have faith Apple will ship sooner than this, they usually do, but this is the first time I missed arrival on launch day.

(Went on sale at 2:01 central time. iPhone store app actually opened for me around 2:05. Email came in at 2:07)

Looks like Launch Day delivery is done. Good job. Next year the iPhone will be $100 more expensive.

I begrudgingly upgraded to the Xs Max and the only reason was because I'd already promised someone my current phone and the Series 4 watch is such a fantastic device, but it needs an iPhone.

This is however the first time I'm upgrading, while knowing I will NOT upgrade to the latest model next year. I'm so irritated by Apple's greed that I will seriously consider abandoning the eco-system. I'm eagerly awaiting the Pixel 3XL launch on October 9 to see if the rumoured Google watch will be announced as well. I strongly doubt that it will be anywhere as good as the Series 4 Apple Watch, but if it's kinda ok, I might return the iPhone Xs Max and Apple Watch Series 4 and jump to Google this year rather than in a year or two.

The XS 256 GB space gray AT&T version sold out in minutes (or minute?) for pick up at most Apple stores in the Seattle area. Crazy. I was watching the other colors/sizes/storages, and they pretty much stuck around well (some XS Max phones are still available, shockingly.) I’m guessing the $200 extra for 512 GB is too much for a lot of people to swallow?

This is weird, I bought the Space Grey T-Mo XsMax 64gb and 12:10am PDT and got a 10/5-10/12 delivery date. Now if I look again for the same phone is shipping one week earlier.

EDIT: Fixed dates.

You'll regret not getting at least 256GB if you are going to drop over a grand.

I feel the same way now as well. Looks like they had more supply (or less demand) for the Max. By the time I ordered the watch afterward it had slipped.

That said, this is for my wife and she’s switching from Android so getting the phone was a bit higher priority
That's awesome! Hope she likes it. Did you get her a watch as well? This will be my wife's first Apple Watch. Usually these days I'm fairly patient about waiting for new product launches. Even with the iPhone X last year I don't remember being this upset that it was delayed, and that was a pretty big overhaul. But this Series 0 is really killing me and I feel like I have already been really patient waiting this long to upgrade it. First gen products typically don't last as long and this is a prime example.

I've been holding off upgrading the Apple Watch Series 1 and glad that I did. For me it feels like Series 4 is the right time to finally get an upgrade.

I'm so excited for the 512gb options! My 256 X is almost maxed out, so this came just in time. People say nobody needs half a TB of storage on a phone, but I do! And it's also the cheapest option per gb to max it out. I'm a local storage hoarder (hate the delays when trying to access stuff in the cloud).

Making an appointment to replace the battery in my 6s. $29. I just saved $1,500!

If you’re lucky, they’ll mess up.
When they replaced my 6s+ battery they couldn’t get the phone to work properly. Sooooo...for the $29 cost of the battery they gave me a beautiful refurb with new battery and twice the storage.
