Thta's messed up. In the US, $1449 gets you a 512GB XS Max.
His calculation includes VAT. Still, pre-VAT the 64gig Xs costs 1126$. And the 512 gig Xs Max is 1617$. Both substantially more expansive than in the US. And here in Europe the average person has less disposable income. Yes, we have health care. But that won’t help Apple sell more iPhones. They will keep losing market share here. A pity.

Slipping faster than I thought with those prices...

Well, that's the problem with mindsets like yours. You think the prices are too high and expect everyone else to think the same. We don't. It's also an indicator of the actual disposable wealth out there, not the endless streams of abject poverty we see on the news all the time.

Absolutely, people need to talk to actual marketing professionals (at a company like Apple), and they will tell you, unequivocally, there's no value in artificially limiting supply.
Who cares what real marketing professionals say?

We have all these armchair-quarterback marketing and production experts here on MR who know oh so much better.

(the reality is Apple will have a certain amount of production capacity built, with the intention of that capacity being able to satisfy ongoing demand while also having an amount of surge capacity. They will also run that production line ahead of announcement to start filling the pipeline as much as possible, but as the initial stock is sold on the first day of preorders they'll push availability out based on the production line capacity)

I still got my 6s and I will upgrade when it burst into flames...but I might get a watch my original watch explode into tiny pieces when crash during a bike run, have not used one since, I've been using a Skagen hybrid and I like it. This new watch is tempting.

Woke up late at 3:15 AM ET and my choice had already slipped to 9/28-10/5. Went back to sleep and still got it for the same delivery period at 9AM-- XS Max 256GB in Gold -- been waiting years for gold and black combo it's gonna be glorious.

Honestly, it doesn't mean anything because we don't know anything about the supply. Having said that, Apple has obviously taken the lion's share of the "wealthy" market.

Anyone else waiting until they pay their 12th payment on the X in the upgrade program? Not about to pay $56 just to pre-order a phone a few weeks early that is already going to hurt my wallet enough lol.
I will be waiting until December. I don’t need to be the first one to have the gold XS. I’m not paying paying to upgrade early; waste of money to me.

Also, many if not most are probably buying these using an installment plan, and it is much easier to justify and budget for a $50 monthly payment and not think about the full price of the device. Doesn’t mean the person is wealthy, just means they are willing to spend an extra $10 - $15 a month over what they paid on their last installment plan for a higher end phone.

"Beginning" to slip?! My a**!
That fracking store didn’t come online until 3:07 am eastern time, giving everyone else a head start.

It took me :45 seconds to order. When I started it said delivery on Sept. 21. After the order was completed, they gave me a date between Sept. 25 to October 5.

I am just furious. I have a small window of available time and this probably isn’t going to cut it. But if I don’t order now, my schedule would put me into February, 2019 to be available.

A trillion dollar company that has to keep their website down ALL day to "prepare" and they can’t get it up and running at the stated time is ridiculous.

Extremely disappointed in Apple - more than I ever have been.

Anyone else getting charged for the phone? Order went through at 3:04am. Got a 256GB space grey Max with a case and then ordered another case separately. I’ve pre-ordered every year and don’t remember getting charged this fast.

We’ll it’s not like it’s an extra fee. You’re paying it regardless.

I preordered the XS Max 512gb at 3:40am Eastern Time and my expected shipping date from Sprint is 10/8-10/15

Seriously you were panicking when your order for an electronics communication device was processing for 35 mins.

This is what is wrong with society, people have viewed the iPhone and AW as a substance addiction, as if their life depended on it. You still have an existing iPhone and/or AW, why the panic for a week or two delay, really. I can understand if panicking for a life and death situation, however the issue you mention does not fit the bill.

Time to get your priorities realigned.

I ended up getting an iPhone Xs 64GB in GLD, delivery 21 Sep. I didn’t have to get up early or anything, the prices are ridiculous.

Replace the order and cancel the previous one.

Just the initial instant gratification surge, the telling sign is the following months momentum. I have been without an iPhone for 10 months. Had the X previously however found FaceID too slow to unlock for my preference, hope this has been improved upon.
My contract with Verizon actually ends on the 24th of this month (I’m switching to at&t) and so I needed to make sure I got this one on launch day or else I’d be a college student without a phone for a couple weeks. I wouldn’t just already have this phone laying around, please stop acting like you know people’s stories when you know nothing about me.

I'm not comparing the cost of living in the US to Europe. But when they tell me Macs are really popular among US college students and iPhones are everywhere I'm not surprised at all.
Maybe I should have written my post in the discussion about Tim Cook talking about the price of iPhone. Prices may be ok for the US but are really nuts in EU, sure we have more taxes but Apple is selling at higher prices to protect from currency fluctuation, I'm ok with that if they keep a reasonable margin but they protect themselves way too much from that risk.
Fair enough, although I was replying to your statement about whether Americans realize how lucky we are to have affordable iPhones.

I'm just saying that with all the other stuff we have to pay for that citizens of other countries do not, it all equals out in the end.

It would be like me saying that Europeans don't realize how lucky they are to have free healthcare. In the end, you'll pay for one thing or another and in most countries like the US and England or France, etc. it's probably a wash.

I was able to order at 6:20EST this morning... Xs Max 256GB in Gold. I really wasn't being serious about it (no intention of upgrading this year), but I was surprised I was able to snag one. If anyone missed out PM me.

Yeah I should have gone straight to ordering the Watches for my wife and myself. I did the iPhone XS iUP first, even though I care less about it, because I thought those usually go faster. Between the store loading a few minutes late for me, processing the XS iUP, needing to grab two watches, and grabbing two extra bands, I didn't get checked out until 12:10 PDT and by then my 44mm SS had already slipped to Oct 5-12. I'm hoping that this somehow changes like the iPhone X and it moves up massively because my Series 0 is dying before dinnertime now—and that's without a workout! It was really stupid of me to not order it first.

I feel the same way now as well. Looks like they had more supply (or less demand) for the Max. By the time I ordered the watch afterward it had slipped.

That said, this is for my wife and she’s switching from Android so getting the phone was a bit higher priority

Those prices are obscene. Add on another $145 tax for the 512GB in NY and you've just spent $1600 on a bigger iPhone X

I had enough money set aside to buy the phone outright. My current phone is an iPhone 6 Plus, so it’s about 5 years old right now. After I had paid the phone off I kept putting the cost of the phone in a bank account and I could have bought a X last year. The price kept me from doing so.

My 6 is having screen problems that have gotten much worse in the last 2 months. I tried to schedule a repair but I couldn’t get an appointment with the Apple store for 3 weeks, this would have been near the end of July, and I wasn’t told that there is a loaner program for you to use while your phone is being repaired. Maybe a 6 was just too old.

So I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new phone. I still feel guilty about the cost. Yes I had money put away specifically for that purpose but I didn’t like last years prices so I’m really not crazy about this years. And the XR is another month away, and sometimes I can’t answer calls or texts because my touchscreen isn’t working.

So I bought one. May be one of the last premium models I buy from anyone, because premium Android phones aren’t a lot cheaper.

Slipping faster than I thought with those prices...

Those prices are staggeringly low.

What once was a $40,000,000 supercomputer now fits on your wrist.
With incredibly detailed graphics.
With blazing fast multi-mile wireless data & voice communications.
With measurable-IQ voice-recognizing AI.
With ECG.
With continuous observation for medical emergencies.
Costing 1-4 days' work.

Some people see the value, and want it sooner than later.

This is weird, I bought the Space Grey T-Mo XsMax 64gb and 12:10am PDT and got a 10/5-10/12 delivery date. Now if I look again for the same phone is shipping one week earlier.

EDIT: Fixed dates.
