Beurk! i hate the look of the new nanos. Apple always comes up with things that look futuristic. but these shapes and these colors make the new Nanos look retro.

+ i think they should change the name for someting like : :apple:iPod ENORMOUS. i mean... they're not the very definiton of nano anymore!

Anything else to say? if those are nanos you can call ma jesus xDDD

It's certainly possible this design represents the 6g iPod instead of a 3g Nano. The rationale that this design is more compatible with the Nano line rather than the regular iPod is partially hinged on the assumption that the 6g iPod will remain HDD based. This assumption could, of course, be incorrect.

An HDD 6g iPod might have a difficult time fitting in the squarish and shorter form factor depicted. On the other hand, a 6g iPod may finally go flash RAM based, in which case the form factor isn't as constraining. Apple might choose to highlight the flexibility in designing a flash based iPod by giving it a radical new appearance to contrast it with older models whose dimensions were predicated by the hard drives they contained.

Another consideration in favor of this being a 6g iPod as opposed to a Nano is product placement in relation to the iPhone. How would Apple distinguish a flash based iPod from the iPhone? One way might be to give it a noticeably distinct form factor.

Assuming you didn't mess with this picture other than cropping and rotating, does anyone else notice how OFF the screen level is (horizontally)? Or am I just seeing things?

YES! I noticed that too when I first saw it. That is hideous. You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

Confirmed Fake. :p

Well, like I said earlier, I think that the angle of the photo makes it look like the screen is not aligned correctly, after I rotated it. But yeah, I'm pretty sure these are fake anyway. :)

in addition to a bad design, don't you think it's ironic that this pic was released just a day or two after the rumored new colors were released?

9to5mac is the site that broke the story about the colors, so no, I don't see it as ironic - they obviously know *something* - I'm just not convinced this is a real ad.

apple legal contacted them...and they've taken it down, so i think its real ...maybe its just the weird angle of the photo that makes it look a little ugly & im also imagining it being fatter (i don't know why)

Yes... I find that very ironic. In addition, the rumored colors came from the same source. I am perturbed that many are still getting thrown off by this fake mock up. Please get over yourselves, this is nothing more than the work of some lonely nerd trying to get attention.

So do carry on people, nothing to see here. ;)

That image is a poorly cropped version of the original.

Here's the original image that has been rotated so that the top edge is approximately flat and the misalignment with the screen is no longer present:

Ok, so you got me there.

Mmmm yes...

But I still bet two lungs, my heart, and soul that it's FAKE. ;)

The truth. :)

No and No. 6G iPod? A two year wait for an design that still isn't wide screen and doesn't even look as good as the current model?

No HDD? I really don't see them leaving owners of 30, 60 and 80GB models without an upgrade path.

It's fake, here's proof.

OMG! Can't anyone smell a fake when you see one. For those of you playing along at home...

Look at the 'photo' for God's sake, zoom in on the title bar at the top of the image. It reads 'Nano - ...PSD!' Yes it's a photoshop document! A fake! Tell me if someone was taking a photo of these lovely new ipods why the hell would they choose a file format that is so widely known in the industry as been used to produce fake images?

Post a YouTube video of someone holding these new ipods then I'll believe you. This shouldn't be hard, the person does not have to stand in the video frame and like always can remain anonymous.

Dude, Apple does ALL their graphics for products in Photoshop. That doesn't mean this is a fake pic.

A 6G with pathetic flash sized memory, that is absurd. Speculation should at least make sense. "Oh and our new iPod, aside from being **** ugly has 10% of the storage space of your old model."

Yes it is a Photoshop document. That doesn't mean it's a fake. It simply means that like most images it was processed via PS.

This is really perplexing- How is it that it so many automatically associate a .psd image with fakes when the vast majority of images on the web, on TV, and in magazine ads that are of authentic products are also processed through Photoshop?

Simply because an image is a .psd file doesn't automatically make it a fake anymore than a .psd file makes an image authentic by virtue of the fact that nearly all authentic images are also processed via PS.

Apple Legal

9to5 now claims apple legal called them and told them to take the pics down. If this is true that gives some credibility to the pics but I won't believe anything until apple calls up macRumors. Until then it could just be 9to5 making **** up.

I placed an image of the existing Nano over this new design. Assuming the control wheel is the same size (big assumption), you can get an idea of the size of the new one:

Given the scale, that doesn't look too bad. Obviously I have too much time on my hands, so I did my own mock-up making the click wheels the same size...
Interestingly, when I copied a leaked image of the the new (6G?) interface it scaled perfectly to the screen size on the images released today...
I don't think it looks too bad. Not too much different, but with a huge increase in the screen size.

Why did Apple tell them to take the pictures down? Does that mean they were on to something? I see "spy pics" all the time on this site and others. They are not taken down. Hmm.....

9to5Mac has always been right so far, and it looks like they got told to take them down. Not sure what to think here, they probably are real though. I can see the ad campaign now...."The new iPods: It's Hip to be Square"

In order not to waste space, they should make the click wheel into a large square
:p
