How cute! I might pick up one of those! They remind me of those Creative players, only these are so much cuter
Eww... yeah. Those shadows are all wrong.Especially on the black one.
Assuming you didn't mess with this picture other than cropping and rotating, does anyone else notice how OFF the screen level is (horizontally)? Or am I just seeing things?

YES! I noticed that too when I first saw it. That is hideous. You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

in addition to a bad design, don't you think it's ironic that this pic was released just a day or two after the rumored new colors were released?

That image is a poorly cropped version of the original.
Here's the original image that has been rotated so that the top edge is approximately flat and the misalignment with the screen is no longer present:
It's certainly possible this design represents the 6g iPod instead of a 3g Nano. The rationale that this design is more compatible with the Nano line rather than the regular iPod is partially hinged on the assumption that the 6g iPod will remain HDD based. This assumption could, of course, be incorrect.
An HDD 6g iPod might have a difficult time fitting in the squarish and shorter form factor depicted. On the other hand, a 6g iPod may finally go flash RAM based, in which case the form factor isn't as constraining. Apple might choose to highlight the flexibility in designing a flash based iPod by giving it a radical new appearance to contrast it with older models whose dimensions were predicated by the hard drives they contained.
OMG! Can't anyone smell a fake when you see one. For those of you playing along at home...
Look at the 'photo' for God's sake, zoom in on the title bar at the top of the image. It reads 'Nano - ...PSD!' Yes it's a photoshop document! A fake! Tell me if someone was taking a photo of these lovely new ipods why the hell would they choose a file format that is so widely known in the industry as been used to produce fake images?
Post a YouTube video of someone holding these new ipods then I'll believe you. This shouldn't be hard, the person does not have to stand in the video frame and like always can remain anonymous.

Another consideration in favor of this being a 6g iPod as opposed to a Nano is product placement in relation to the iPhone. How would Apple distinguish a flash based iPod from the iPhone? One way might be to give it a noticeably distinct form factor.

I placed an image of the existing Nano over this new design. Assuming the control wheel is the same size (big assumption), you can get an idea of the size of the new one:
