Gizomodo has been requested by Apple legal to remove the photo's as well:

Apple Legal has asked Giz to take down the spy shots of the iPhone nano we covered earlier today, and out of respect for The Steve, we've complied. That pretty much confirms they belong to Apple, whether that is by final design or prototype. However, the image above is all ours —done from scratch in Photoshop. Compared to the iPhone, we still think it looks not-so-good. It better be 3mm thin.

Ugly

I'd rather buy a Creative Zen than this fugly ugly looking thing.

I really, really hope that these are fake.

Is Apple loosing it?

:(

Welp, so it's real, then.

Like it or hate it, better get used to it.

This sounds like the motto for a lot of what Apple is putting out. The fugly aluminum keyboard, the fugly wireless keyboard, this fugly new iPod. Next thing you know Steve will put horns on the next Mac Pro, or copy off of one of these lame mockups done by kindergartners.

From a comment on Gizmodo:
"For some reason, all I can think about right now is Danny DeVito."

I hope that short, fat iPod never sees the light of day and that Cupertino is just ****ing with us.

Holy hell I refuse to believe that this is going to be the new iPod nano....

If this is what it is going to be, then I am placing an order for a new battery for my 4G black and white iPod which looks more civilized.

And honestly, I am fairly certain that these may just be the prototypes, I dont think that the nano's will look like this.. isn't anything sacred anymore?

Wow, I'm not drooling over the shape of these like I was the current nano when it came out.

That & I was hoping for the same orange that the Shuffle is available in for the next Nano update.

I believe that the size is brilliant, it is very tiny.

The only thing that concerns me is the choice to dump pink...totally unwise. Also, are they using that plastic doubleshot for the casing? That would make me sad.

Hmmm... Tomorrow 8:00 AM, Wall Street: *ding ding ding ding ding ding ding*, :apple:AAPL DOWN $30.09  (well it is their fault).

Sure hope Apple is just pulling our leg with this shenanigans.

I'm actually not sure if the device is ugly or if it's just the picture that makes it look that way. If it is the successor to the nano then there's a good chance that the thing will look a lot better when it's scaled down to fit in the palm of your hand.

Also, there are advantages to having the widescreen format for the nano other than video. The biggest advantage for users and Apple alike is the possibility that with a full video screen it will be compatible with iPod games, something that would be advantageous for Cupertino given its renewed relationship with EA.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how Apple's promo pictures compare to this leaked image should this rumor prove to be accurate. I'll reserve judgement on its appeal until I see one in the store.

I don't really like it but we cant really tell unless we have it in our hands.

I would get the real iPod anyways so it doesn't really matter to me.

right.

horrid design, poor color choice, too wide, unpractical.

thats the new Zune people, not the new nano ;)

It must be very short...or it could be like the 5G, when I first saw it I though it was shorter, and fatther then the 4G.

Either way it looks like a good Video Nano, and nice for when Apple drop the click wheel on the 6G!

The colour and style of the new nanos look nice however, the ratio is out and so from a design POV they don't look right.

But then again we'll have to wait to see if these are the real thing....

Thanks for pointing that out, but why would Apple choose AAPL over APPL! Their are 2 "P's" in Apple so it would make sense!

*goes to edit post*

Until recently, I believe, there was a company that began with "Applied" in its name and it used APPL as the stock ticker. It appears that the company has went bust now, because I can't find it in the listings.

The more I think about it, the more I think the new "video" iPod nano will look like a scaled-up 2G iPod nano (complete with metallic case) with a screen that is almost the size of the current 5.5G iPod and the click wheel moved lower in the case. It will be available in 8 GB and 16 GB flash memory versions.
