The pictures on Spymac are all fake. But don't ruin the fun and tell them that.

details of new ipod on newsweek

The click wheel. The iPod keeps getting slimmer and more streamlined. While the initial version had a relatively boxy feel, subsequent versions have been curvier and smaller. This one is about a millimeter thinner and, more significantly, eliminates the control buttons that sat under the display screen. Instead, it uses a "click wheel," where the controls are placed on the compass points of the circular touchpad that lets you scroll through menus.

New features. You can create multiple on-the-go playlists and delete songs from those ad hoc mixes.

Longer play. the new iPods are rated for 12 hours of rockin' between charges—a 50 percent boost in battery life.

Lower price. The top-of-the-line iPod, holding 10,000 songs now costs $399. The lower-capacity model, (20 gigs), costs $299.

Did everyone miss the part of the article which talks about the iPod's 12 hour batterey life? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5457434/site/newsweek/

oh wow...first time seeing that article and the price drops are nice but no 60GB. The extended battery life is awesome as I have had it run out on some long car trips where I forgot to bring the charger. No real new innovative features but we'll see how the people on this forum accept the new model

Anyone got a copy of the article. Everytime I click on the web link it comes up with Network Error. Their servers must be overloaded...

July 26 issue - fourth-generation iPod will roll out this week - NEWSWEEK got an advance peek - lower price - there's no more 15-gig model
this is meant to come out before the ipods, apple isn't giving everything away in the article, 60 gig i bet will appear.

hope so , they should keep the 499 price point in there. a lot of people out there need to have the latest and greatest. cant wait to see what happens Monday

the backlight has just about sold me on getting a new one

Wow, interesting read over breakfast (both this thread and the newsweek article)....

Having read the Steven Levy article, it says the top of the line iPod has still 40 GB.
Remembering another article somebody mentioned (from Maccentral) Apple ordered more than 350 000 pieces of 60GB HD/month from Toshiba....I'm wondering if there's something else in the works (an ueberpod etc.), or if they just adding another top-of-the-line model later.

Maybe it'll be introduced along that presumed August-announcement for the mini (will they just replace pink and gold w/ orange and purple or will the mini get updated, too?)

jph

Maybe, but if so, they're darn good Photoshops.

And then I can get mad at him for lying to me. :(
