What are the chances of my iPod being bricked (or something else happening to it) if I download the "sneaky" update?

It's tempting, but I'm a bit scared. :p

Okaaaaaay, what the hell have I done?

For sh*ts and giggles while I'm waiting for my iTunes to decide to let me update, I decided to see what happens when I click Restore. So, I did. And it restored me with an iPod that claims to have 1.1.4 in place, but is missing all the 1.1.4 apps. Their locations on the home screen are empty - as in there's a space for them, in the places I had positioned them, and all my web bookmarks are in place, but the 1.1.4 apps are not visible.

WTF?

Yeah same here, I'm downloading the manual link right now...

that was dumb. just wait for 2.0 to work and it has them

on another note, itunes says i can update, but when i click it, it tells me the itunes store is temporarily unavailable. is this happening to everyone or just because so many people are downloading it.

I tried installing both of the DMG's, for one it says that it can't be opened, and the other one prompts for a password that isn't my admin or user password.
