iPod Touch 2.0 Firmware Update (Almost) Live

I don't mean to be another person crying about this. But, I woke up early this morning just to download this with false hopes of downloading amazing software which I could enjoy all day long. Only to find 5 and a half hours later that I can't do this. After countless hours of trying and trying I have nothing. I refuse to download the link or beta version or whatever you want to call it. I want to official release and I find it wrong to do otherwise. I'm just very upset and bored. So please anybody with anything fun to do while I wait let me know.

I worry the same thing. Ever since rumors started flying around about the original iPhone, I immediately began to worry.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very cool product, and I LOVE my iPod Touch. But as you accurately put it, I fear they're losing sight just a touch. I mean look at the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, they haven't been overhauled since the Intel switch. And the Mac Mini is all but forgotten about. I was actually surprised it was still in the Apple Store. It's a great product, but Apple doesn't market it or update it enough.

All in all, I still love Apple. They've been less than impressive this week. But in the grand scheme of things, all the reasons I spend my remaining few dollars on a Mac product are still valid.

That being said, I want apps!

Yup, I've been up for 6 hours now clicking the ever-so-disappointing "Check for Update" button...:mad:
 
So I'm downloading the "illegal" version now and I was just wondering if when I update the iPod and it turns out to be the wrong version or I just want to pay for the actual version will I be able to or will it not work?
 
Firefox 3 had 8 million people download it on the launch day. Their servers crashed. They had them back up within an hour or two. Why can't Apple do the same?

The build numbers are the same that are for the iphone(direct link from apple). This is confirmed. The build that comes shipped with the new iphone 3G is the 5A347 build, which is that same Beta 8 build that was leaked from Apple's site yesterday.

So this means that in theory the link to the torrents I posted above (the 5A347 build) will be the actual version that Apple is going to release sometime today for the iPod touch. I have been using the 5A345 build since the 9th but you needed a special itunes to get the apps, this all changed when the itunes 7.7 came out on the 10th, this enabled the appstore from a regular itunes install.

Everybody feeling guilty about not paying the $10 do what I am doing. Create a backup of your ipod with itunes, use the Beta 8 build if you just can't wait till Apple "officially" releases it. Then do the same ****-click or Option-click and select your backup .ipsw, this will make your ipod revert back to the 1.1.4 firmware, then you can just purchase the 2.0 firmware from itunes. Steve will be happy to get his $10, you will be happy because you don't have to wait for Apple to "officially" release it.

i was just going to ask this, i think if you put it into dfu mode you'll be able to d/l the official update when its availible, can anyone confirm this?
 
WTF?! January Update Gone!!!

My ipod crashed earlier today and I wasn't doing anything dodgy (like downloading beta versions of 2.0) so I elected to click the "restore" and then it asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new ipod or restore and I selected restore. Now my January Update is gone- wtf?! The spaces where the icons were are just empty. Say what you want that it will be in the 2.0 but this is effin ridiculous. I paid $20 for it and it shouldn't have been taken off my ipod! Besides that I can't even get the 2.0 update so soon it will be $30 later- wtf wtf wtf, apple?

This is crazy. Is this happening to anyone else?
 
So this is interesting...

I have 5A345 build and click check for update and says firmware 2.0 is the current version.

i thought someone posted in the iphone thread that 5A347 was the check-dev build with all the debug code in it, and that 5A345 is the one that should've been released to the public. I assume it would be the same for the touch...
 
Plug in your iPod, in the iTunes window Option (Shirft for windows users) click the update button. Chose the file on your desktop and it should update.
 
It may take some time but it does work, I'm just getting all of my music back onto my ipod.

Well, in :apple:'s defense, Mozilla had a 20MB file and didn't have to worry about secure access.

The firmware is 223 MB and should be done with secure payments and the link when it all gets working.

Don't mistake me, I'm not excusing them...they had plenty of time to prepare. However, the scenarios are a bit different (I did think of that point earlier today).

whoever said this is wrong. 5A347 is the version that was distributed through iTunes for a bit this morning before losing contact with the server. I know this for a fact, because i downloaded and installed it through itunes.

DO NOT SPREAD AND INSTALL 5A345 AS THE "FINAL" VERSION. JUST WAIT DAMN IT.

Why dont you guys just wait a couple of hours for the legit version to come out so that you know you have the best possible verison out there and you know it won't screw up on you. I've waiting 8 months for this and woke up really early and I'm still being patitent. Just wait.;)
 
So I couldn't wait anymore and "obtained" 2.0 through non-official sources. In case I have to go back to 1.1.4, where would I be able to download that? I couldn't find anything on Apple's pages ...

This is the final version, nothing different from what Itunes will give you.
