But I do get where you're coming from. On that front, Apple failed just slightly. Very little differentiates the iPad from the iPod Touch. Even though you all hate this term, it is just a big iPod. The only difference is its screens size and some UI tweaks. For it to be a "tablet", it needed to have been a hybrid between iOS and OS x. It should have also been released with a 128 GB option. I mean, for a device of its size, and for what it's meant for, anything less than 32 GB is really quite useless. You wouldn't be using it to its full potential...
You're correct, but...
The screen size is not a trivial detail; the iPad's processor is also specially designed and faster: 1 GHz v. 600 kHz (?) for iPod Touch and iPad battery life is another league.
In other words, iPad has got a productivity potential that is out of reach for the iPod Touch or the iPhone.
The iPod Touch is essentially for fun. iPad is both for fun and work.
