Just wondering...

Out of curiosity, does anyone dislike MacRumor's member "motulist" for having done this fake vPod?

In that case, I won't believe there has been any change, unless someone can show me a specific example of something that used to be 4:3 now being 16:9. Anyone want to explore some iTunes content for us? :)
Well, Lost is still 4:3 and if Apple was changing all their content to widescreen (why they bothered with 4:3 in the first place, who knows) then one of the more popular shows hasn't been changed over.

Of course, if they changed over Lost and other popular shows to widescreen then perhaps people would begin to think something was up.  :D

If the next iPod looks just like this fake, then we will know how far Apple will go to squash rumors. If it is a fake, then we will know how far fans will go to make Apple news.

i dont think so. the look of the rumored video iPod has been consistent for a long time. i cant remember the first time i saw a mock up of the video iPod which featured a touch screen taking up the whole front of the device. theres nothing NEW about the rumored LOOK.

im sure it will look like all the mockups. even with the virtual click wheel. i just cant wait for apple to decide its time to release it.

yeah, the new iPod will probably look just like this but this is still a fake.
It isn't as if the person who made this has come up with any new ideas.

Not to fuel this humerous charade but...

why anyone would waste time and resources to make that is just beyond me.

I love how so may people are whining that he has so much time on his hands, that he has no life, and he's a loser for playing around in photoshop, when you've obviously taken just about as much time by watching the video of the photo actually being created. you probably even watched it more than once! Quit your whining.

wheres the number 7?

Ok i for one think that this is THE REAL VIDEO OF SOMEONE MAKING THE FAKE IPOD.... I paid attention to intricate detail and even the way that the gold foil is wrapped around the connector is exactly the same. The text in chinese or whatever language that is... is the SAME. Even the creases in the plastic or paper underneat the ipod are the same. same shadows. same light... the ONLY thing thats different is the number "7" on the jpg being nowhere to be seen on the video. But then again that could have been done last minute or after the fact.

People people... theres NO DENYING that this is the actual video of someone making the fake ipod. there is NO WAY that every crease in the plastic under the ipod, or the chinese text, or the scribble in the lower right corner or the lighting or ANYTHING else could be SOO EXACT if it were otherwise.

dont believe, open up safari.... go to on macrumors.com.... click the link that shows the high res mirror from someone iWeb site... then click APPLE + T to open a new tab (provided u have tabbed browsing enabled).. and go to on macrumors.com again... then click the link to show all the mockup jpegs and click the appropriate image to make it bigger... then click back and forth between tabs and theeeen.. try and tell me i'm mistaken!

I bet though, that when one of these does actually surface from apple... it will be very similar... just our luck...

urgh! what?
i've seen these around the internet too, have these people got no clue what an iPod is? they probably just googled "video iPod" and got this.

By the way, great job on the video, but... I wanted one...:(

Hey Moses-

How does it feel to know that MR member "motulist" [and presumably the culprit] was posting right under you? You we're post #1056 and "motulist" was #1057. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/182346/

Or was it maybe... YOU... who did this!!!

;)

Guys I've been watching the video and I think I've figured out when it was made.

It was made yesterday because during any special events, Google has "Google Doodles" on the main page, that have something to do with the event. Well, the most current event was the olympics. Today's illustration is a man and a woman wearing medals. Yesterday's was a man playing hockey. If you watch the video, you will see that while the "hoaxer" is searching for an "lcd colour test", the Google Doodle in the video is infact a man playing hockey. So.. the video was made yesterday. It is a "recreation" of the fake picture.

Could anyone host it as a .wmv so I can save it with Flip 4 Mac w/o purchasing Quicktime Pro? :p ;) jk
Just copy the link to the movie that you have quoted and past it into a Safari's Downloads window. Window>Downloads It will also work in FF.

Those are awesome PS skills, it was fun while it lasted.
Hardly.
The iPod looked real, because the photo was poorly lit and blurry. Not because the PS skills were outstanding.

Look at the video and look at the photo. They are NOT the same.
Color pattern is much more 'shady' and has much more saturation between lower and upper bar. Second, bar code label does not show the 7 on it. Third, it looks like the cable is a different cable.

Not saying the original is not fake, but video and photo are not made by the same person, IMHO.

you never know - the same guy could have created both: for example, you do the fake, then see how popular it is, you want to burst everyone's bubble, so you do it again, and video it this time. so you leave one or two bits out and it turns out ever so slightly different.

Or just hit option-return with the URL in the address bar.
