Staying with my 12 Pro. Still does everything I need it to, and the camera and promotion are not significant enough upgrades for me to consider upgrading at this time.

Im sure there are plenty of people not upgrading. But its launch day, so all the "Talk about what you are ordering" conversations are clumped to the top.
Yeah......I haven't upgraded yet, for no reason.

Just had a new battery installed in my 7 at the beginning of this year, mainly to get me to this day, so I could get a new 13 mini when released. I have the money put back for it. But oddly I just can’t justify getting it when my old 7 is clicking along so well now. Just not wanting it as much. Bizarre shift for me. I think it’s the renewed masking and getting through the pain of no finger ID on the new ones. Alas…maybe later.

This is the first time since my first iPhone (3GS) that I'm not upgrading. I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I find nothing appealing in the new iPhone 13. Not even the new colors. There are really good trade in deals, but it's not worth it for me because you have to lock yourself in an installment plan. I always pay for my phones in full. Also, I don't want to be locked in an installment because I'm hoping next year we’ll have a better upgrade for the iPhone and I'll probably want to get it then.

While I am quite tempted, my 12-mini will do just fine for at-least another year.

It's the new iPad Mini that has my attention right now . . . which is awkward, as I have no need, or existing use-case scenario <smile>

Regards, splifingate
Same here!

Is anyone not upgrading and waiting until next year? I’m not going to lie I am very tempted by all these deals!
I went back to Samsung last year and bought the galaxy S21+ and I'm so tempted to buy an iPhone 13 pro but I left apple for 2 reasons....the last 2 phones (iPhone 11 &12) struggled to keep good signal while using hotspot and the second reason is apple taking away the ability to manually choose between a 3G or 4G signal, where I live 3G is often 20 times stronger than 4G but iphone will barely ever switch to 3G and will quite happily chug along on 4G giving me 2Mbps when 3G would give me 10+ Mbps.

Wasn’t planning on upgrading from my 12 Pro Max but the AT&T deal tempted me to preorder the 13 Pro Max for what was being offered for my backup phone (XS Max) I wouldn’t have been able to resell it for that price and I have no issues with staying with AT&T since I’ve already been with them since the original iPhone.

So the 12 Pro Max will be my backup phone now and will trade it in/sell it next year depending on what features/design changes iPhone 14 Pro Max brings to the table.

Is there anything that justifies an upgrade here? I’m rocking an XR and it does everything I need, plus it’s paid for. Only thing I see is 5G and the improved cameras but I don’t stream much. I guess I’ll look at the trade in value. My daughter has my old 8 plus and it’s still a champ after a new battery and replacement charge port. When is Apple going to come out with some substantial changes?

Nope, still rocking an old android, nothing made me want to jump back to iPhone. TBH I am interested in the iPad mini, currently using a Kindle Fire and its so slooooooowwwwww, so yeah gonna bit the bullet on the iPad mini I think

Upgrade? Why? So that you can spend $1,500 and do the same thing on the 13 that you're doing on your current phone?

Less is more, friends. The less you want, the more you have, in both money and wisdom.

The thrill of a shiny new toy wears off quickly. And then you're right back where you started: with yourself, except poorer.

I have a 12 pro max 512 gb. I would love for a 1 tb iPhone, but CSAM is not going away. I'm not quite sure whether I could support a purchase. I also think that the products this years, are just a stopgap for next year. While 120 hz is not a reason anyone should be holding off a purchase, the fact is that 120 hz will definitely trickle down in next year's iPad, iPhone launches. Once you've used 120 hz, it's a little hard to go back to 60 hz.

However, I would like to note that my parents will be getting 2 new iPhones 13s from me. (Upgrading their iPhone Xs) So I don't know. Win for Apple at the same time?

I’m trying not to upgrade, I really am, mr XR still works fine, I’ve had it three years and the battery is down to 86% so I’m thinking maybe a battery replacement would be more cost effective than a 13, but they’re just so shiny and tempting but I struggle to justify £800 on a phone that, realistically, won’t do anything more for me!

If I can hold on for one more year…

I need therapy

Couldn’t agree more. There are heavy users that can benefit from better camera, features… my use case is very light. One of the reasons I still have my iPhone 6, just suffering from touch disease.

I am probably in the minority here, actually trying to use my iPhone less rather than jumping on all features, tons of apps, and all that.

Not upgrading, buying my first iPhone. I have always been android with my phones, because I actually use it as a phone/msg device for business. The tipping point for me is the Camera & ProRes. I picked up the Pro vs. Max as it very close to the size of my current phone.

I decided to. While my 12 Pro Max is not even close to being obsolete, the battery health is 90% already. That makes it a little harder to sell outright, and the trade-in with Apple was alluring (as are the improved display, cameras, etc.).

I hope you know that having Apple replace the battery is easy and relatively inexpensive. My 8 Plus is on its third battery. Just got #3 a few months ago, and the phone feels like it's new.

I have a fully paid off 12 Pro Max. Ordered a new 13 Pro Max twice yesterday and cancelled it each time. I’m just having a hard time justifying the upgrade. And then you have to buy new screen protectors and cases.

I’ve owned every iPhone except the 6 series. And most times I have some regret when I upgrade every year. I’m like this doesn’t make any sense. I have a perfectly good paid off iPhone and I’m going back into debt just to get a new one. It’s really just silly and not smart. I admire the people who buy one and keep it for 2-3 years minimum before upgrading.

Good decision. You've seen it yourself: Gadget lust doesn't do anything for you. On the contrary, it makes you feel ridiculous and wasteful. And it makes you poorer. You get a new device and do the same darn things you were doing on the previous one. It's just another distraction--and an expensive one at that. Better to take the time to reflect on why you end up lusting after each new device that comes out.

Also, 2-3 years minimum? Try 5-7. You don't need a new phone every 2-3 years. Get a new battery and keep your phone.

I’ll be most probably upgrading from my iPhone 8 to the 13 mini. I think it’s a good upgrade and it will be the last mini so... here we go.

But I will wait until next year because, starting on january 2022, we’ll have 3 years of consumer’s warranty coverage and a whopping 10 years of replacement parts in my country, Spain. And this 13 mini has to last me many, many years.

I think for most people with an iPhone 12 or even some with an 11 it might not be worth it. But for those with an older phone is a solid upgrade.

I think it depends on how long Apple supports a device. If you stop getting security updates it’s time to get a new device. Also depends on use case. Someone with a 6, 7, or 8 might decide they want an all screen design even though their phone works perfectly fine. Or they might decide that multiple cameras is important to them and want to upgrade. I agree with the notion of not being wasteful and upgrading year over year but 3 years is still a respectable run with a phone if you have a good reason to upgrade beyond “cuz I can”
