There’s panel lottery losing jailbreak and costs involved since I’m on the $800 credits 30 month att deal

more hassle than it’s worth. Not upgrading my PB 128GB 12 Pro

My wife is the ultimate “this is fine” phone user. Used my 5 till it fell apart. Used my 6s till it started having issues. Now she’s on my old XR and doesn’t have any desire to change. She reads on kindle, takes calls, texts, researches/browses, and takes the occasional picture. She sees no value in upgrading when the 13s won’t do any of that (save the camera) better. But she takes rare pictures and they are like family shots. XR is just fine for that

Is anyone not upgrading and waiting until next year? I’m not going to lie I am very tempted by all these deals!

Yes. I am perfectly content with the iPhone 12 Pro Max that I got last year. Nothing compelling for me with iPhone 13... and my bank account is very happy with that decision... long gone are my days of spending $1K/year to have the latest and greatest (?) when the phone I have is completely functional and serves my needs.

Also, I with all of the kids out of the house and on their own, there's no need to play the "upgrade and hand them down the line" game... let 'em buy their own phones... :D

The bank account was another reason I decided not to. I have the cash the buy a new phone but I consciously thought “that $500+ could go towards a nice vacation when the world opens back up”. Would rather spend that money on my family than a new phone.

I usually upgrade every 2 years and this would normally be the year for me to upgrade. But my 11 Pro Max is still wonderful 2 years later. Does everything I need it to do and more. Battery health is still at 95% and I have a battery case for when the need arises - it hasn't yet. According to the AT&T coverage map, there is no 5G in my city yet (which I find surprising) but the LTE remains plenty great for me. In addition, I will be missing out on other features like the camera improvements, LiDAR, Pro Motion, etc but I suppose that I cannot exactly miss something that I never had to begin with. I told myself the same thing when the iPhone 4 introduced the retina display, but I stayed with my 3GS for another year. I couldn't miss retina since I had never had it. The notch might be a bit smaller, but functionally, it is still the same true depth camera system. I do not recall any announcements of face id being faster/more efficient. But the face id system on the 11 Pro Max has been great.

I am tempted by the trade in offer. I would never do a trade in offer through a carrier because of the red tape. I refuse to do any installment plan because when I upgrade my phone I simply buy the phone at full price up front. But the $500 that I could get from Apple on a trade in of the 11 Pro Max does have me tempted. I know that I will not get close to that next year. And I like the sierra blue color.

Plus I usually upgrade my Apple Watch at the same time I upgrade my iPhone. But this year's S7 offers nothing new functionally so that makes it an easy pass and I plan to keep my S5.

As for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, right now I am saying no. But I will wait for reviews from some of the tech sites before I make the final decision. I anticipate sticking to my guns and hanging onto my 11 Pro Max for another year.

Upgrade? Why? So that you can spend $1,500 and do the same thing on the 13 that you're doing on your current phone?
Yeah, I wish I was thinking this clearly when I still had my X. The 12Pro doesn't do anything for me that my X didn't, save pick up paperclips. A serious driver for me towards an upgrade will be when Apple again sells a phone without magnets in the back of it.

Personally I don’t see the point in upgrading a phone that works and still gets updates.
Years ago, not long after the iPhone was launched, I was at a comedy gig. The compere said “Please ensure all mobile phones are turned off, and for those of you who have an iPhone just get over yourselves it’s only a f****** phone”. Upgrade every year? It’s only a ******* phone.

Sounds like a bitter, buzzkill compere that doesn’t want others to enjoy things.

was not gonna upgrade from the 12 pro max. but my dad is on the iphone 7 so giving that to him

My wife and I aren't despite being on the Apple Upgrade Plan. After upgrading our phone annually for the last several years, we're finally going to go back to keeping our phone every few years and then upgrading. We're planning on getting the 14.

Mini 12 is great but I may upgrade on BF if prices are right. If 13 is the last mini will be worth the hassle of upgrading.

Well, I wasn't going to upgrade initially until T-Mobile (my carrier) sent me an email detailing the fact that I could get $1000 by trading in my iPhone 12. So that's what I'm doing. If I had the 12 Pro Max, I probably would have stuck with it, but I've been sort of wanting to try a "Max"-size phone again (last I had was the 6s Plus), and so I might as well get the latest one instead of trading for a 12 Pro Max.

Not upgrading. My iPhones are too old (or cheap) to get a free upgrade and even if I had one that qualified, the 36 month term is too long (only 33% credit after 1 year vs 50% credit with 24 month term).

Im sure there are plenty of people not upgrading. But its launch day, so all the "Talk about what you are ordering" conversations are clumped to the top.

Last year I didn't order, but I swear the first full page of this forum were all from people who were ordering and talking about what they ordered.

Dont be fooled into thinking that "everyone" is doing it.
yep... same! I decided I didn't need a new phone last year.

it's the same in the other areas.... in the MacBook section you'd swear "everyone" constantly upgraded their MacBooks every year... or iMacs.... or iPads... etc....

you're in good company if you aren't upgrading... just most who aren't... aren't talking about it here cuz of all the excitement and chatter from those who are!

don't forget that apple has their own 24 month financing AND you get a little bit of credit for an older phone! my mom has a 6s that she's upgrading and she's getting $60 trade in for it!

not trying to talk you into anything... just don't rely JUST on the carrier deals if you want to upgrade!

Yep, I know. If carriers continue to require 36 month terms, I'll likely just stick to either IUP or AppleCard. I'm waiting for the new SE though. OLED gives me migraines.

Hoping Walmart offers another good deal for the new SE. I got our 2020 SEs for $200 off (cash discount so only paid tax on the discounted amount).

Not upgrading immediately but will likely look to do so in the spring. I'm currently om the 6s and getting iOS 15. I'm going to see how much longer I get security updates before I make the jump. Trying to milk every possible minute out of this phone.
