iPhones are so common in 2014 that I don't think they could even come close to being snobbish or elitist.

In 2007 or 2008, there might have been some case for it, but some iPhones today are $0 upfront with a mobile phone contract, making them affordable to most people.

I think it used to be really bad pre-iPhone 3GS, now its not that bad.

Yes. Most definitely.

I read that scientists have done studies that show correlation between Apple brand and religion in one's brain. They monitored brain activity of subjects, and upon the mentioning of apple products, the brain showed activity in the same location as does upon the mention of the same subject's personal religion.

Apple users feel comparable loyalty as a dedicated Christian might feel to his/her church.

I think almost anyone with a new smartphone is.
Whether you have a Samsung, iPhone, LG, HTC, etc. you always seem to feel you have the best phone on the market...that's why people are always pro-apple or pro-samsung because they think they have the best phone!

However, i do feel that Mac owners feel that they are superior whereas people with windows computers really don't brag and they don't seem to care much...

My coworkers thinks so LULZ. They think that iphone owners or apple owners in general are snobbish and elitist. Do u get this impression?

I think anyone that thinks it is prestigious to have a iPhone is probably a snob yes. I would use another word but probably not a good idea.

I see no prestige from what phone you have. Its really laughable that anyone would think that way.

LOL, who would waste the time to even look these up? Truth be told, you have to be a bit smarter to be able to use Android. iOS is the smartphone older people get that arent very tech savy.

This thread is an embarrassment to macrumors.

Someone with some sense :)

Interesting. First off, i never said Teens or younger people didnt buy them....and they probably dont, Mom and Dad most likely do but it is their choice to want one.
I said older people that arent very tech savy are more likely to buy them because they are easier to use.

Whats interesting is that one of articles said that all those teens surveyed came from average income families while you posted a bunch of other crud stating the more rich and better educated buy them. Pretty darn contradictory. I guess it depends on which writers you feel are more credible.

In anycase, i dont care who buys what. It means nothing to me. I can assure you that my Sister and her Daughter are not close to being rich or more educated than the next guy and they have iPhones.

I can go to TMobile tomorrow and get a iPhone with $0 down. How rich do you have to be to do that?

Just means Apple has a good reach across all demographics...except the impoverished group apparently...

If wealthier means snobbier in your dictionary, then probably yes.
In the US and everywhere else in the world, there are numerous sources pointing out that in general, iOS users spend up to 20 times more on app purchases than Android users. Whether this means wealthier or not is entirely up for debate.

Geographically, in the US and again, everywhere else in the world, higher property prices means more iOS users.

Purple - Blackberry
Red - iOS
Green - Android

So, it's quite self explanatory based on locations of Wall Street, the Upper East Side, Brooklyn, The Bronx etc. .. and to rank from snobbiest to the super modest (really?)

1) Blackberry
2) iOS
3) Android
4) Others

Apple is one of the most hyped-up and snob company. If you like apple products you have affinity to snobbery.

iPhone users tend to be richer and more educated, so I see why someone would say they are snobby.
The problem starts there though when people assume those with more money and have had a better education are automatically snobby as a result. I am not comfortable with stereotyping and labelling people like that.

That is more of a personal opinion from yourself than a fact though isn't it? When I read that my first and last thought was 'absolute rubbish'.

Its a bit like someone saying if you buy a cheaper Android or Windows phone, you have an affinity to prefer cheap products and live on welfare. An equally ridiculous statement and born out of pure speculation with nothing factual backing it up. Phone platforms appeal to people from all demographics, including the iPhone.

iPhone owners > all, jus saying.

I don't know why people assume such things but it is what it is.

Yes, but considering the history of the Mac there's a smidgeon of truth in that.

The Mac was adopted as the tool for the graphic arts industry. Later, it became the tool for the video industry.

Only recently has it become a tool for the masses. But before that the majority of users were professionals. The average person does not GET what a professional designer does ("Can't you just push a button?"). That got equated with Mac users being snobs.

It stuck and when Apple expanded it's product line beyond Macs it went right along with it.

Non-iPhone users are not allowed direct eye contact with me, everyone at work knows that.

I am not talking about rich and poor divide here. Come on it just a phone not a car or condo.

Android manufacturers like Samsung give the impression their products are high tech but value for money. Apple being closed system portrayed itself like an exclusive club.

People who thinks themselves as hip and cool (note doesn't mean they are actually rich or cool) wouldn't want to associate themselves with value for money products. These people have a higher tendency to think those who buy these value for money products are just the average blue collar Joe blogg. Hence the snobbish behavior.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to profile this group of people. Look at how Apple market their products then you know what I mean. So on average people who buy apple are more snob.

I don't get the same impression I have to say. I see more snobbery aimed towards Apple products by suggesting they are inferior and the people who buy them only do so for the brand, and have indeed myself been in that position a couple of times. I'm yet to find an iPhone owner who looks down on somebody else because of what phone model they use. Apple market simplicity and logic, rather than suggesting their customer base are a certain type of person in my view. I think internet discussion gave birth to what you are saying here rather than it being a reality. Again I think this is your impression rather than it being representative of what the mainstream think.

Due to Android appearing on low and mid range handsets as well as premium, more lower class and uneducated people own Android devices. This is fairly obvious. Apple products are expensive and so generally speaking, a greater percentage of educated and high-earning people will own them. Expensive branded products are an exclusive club.

However, none of this makes iPhones 'better' than premium Android phones, and not does it exclude educated & rich people from owning Android devices. I know some really well heeled (and educated) Android owners.

Our personal baristas have been told not to serve non-iPhone users.

If you want to sip your cappucino while pushing the great buttons of design you must own an iPhone.
